Rotoworld confirmed it as well:

Miguel Angel Sano-SS-Player Sep. 29 - 6:40 pm et

According to Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, 16-year-old shortstop Miguel Angel Sano has agreed to terms with the Twins.

Sano, a highly touted prospect out of the Dominican Republic, will be handed a $3.15 million signing bonus. He was pursued heavily by the Pirates and Orioles, among other teams, but questions about his age and identification caused a stir around the league. An investigation came back inconclusive, but that obviously didn't scare away Minnesota management.

this is good for the twins, but when he becomes a superstar like santana, they will trade him.

leave it to the pittsburgh newspapers to report the signing of a player to a team besides the pirates...and sadly he was high on the pirates wish list

Great signing for the Twins, hopefully he comes in and has an immediate impact rather than becoming a Bust.

Would be great to see him in the majors in 3 years.

Justin Morneau/Joe Nathan is all I've got to say about that. Oh, and soon to be Joe Mauer.

Nice. I'm surprised we ended up signing him considering word was that we started to back away from and that the Pirates and O's were to be the ones to get him.

Soon to be Mauer? Mauer RIGHT NOW is a bigger star then Morneau ever was/ever will be.

You will see no argument from me on this front. However, the discussion was pertaining to players who became superstars the Twins eventually resigned, not players who've become superstars period.

How many MVP's has mauer won? How many games has Morneau won SINGLE handedly for the twins?

Not saying mauer isn't a stud, but to say morneau was never a star or never will be is ignorant and stupid.

Turns out Sano is 33 years of age... That sucks

Hopefully he doesn't murder anyone in a bar.

Or if he does that its in a Mexican bar, so he can pay off the officials.

Wow, I really thought the Pirates were going lock him up. Great signing for the Twins, guess the Pirates will have to settle with McCutchen and Alvarez.

I think this was a great move by the Twins. Even with the questions about his age and his identity this was an oportunity the Twins had to take because his price was falling and fast. If they still had Bartlett they could have taken a pass and been ok, but Sano apparently has tremendous upside and though he won't be ready for a while that's the kind of player the Twins need to open up the wallet for. Now hopefully they'll have enough cash left over to keep Mauer in Minnesota.

Bartlett's a month shy of 30.....wouldn't have mattered if he was here or not.

Good signing; a lot better than using that cash on another Livan Hernandez, Luis Ayala, Craig Monroe type player.

34 is not an automatic falloff point for shortstops. Given Sano's 4 year (or so) projection to make a major league impact.

Who's the last Twin to break into the bigs at age 20 not named Joe Mauer?

Wisdom Listens

That would be to imply Sano's future projections are equal to those you are comparing him to.

I can't exactly grasp what you're saying there, can you please re-phrase it?

I'm suggesting that he's as raw as a freshly picked carrot, and may need 5-6 seasons. At which point, Bartlett would have been 35-36.

Not only that, but at that point Bartlett may have fled via FA.

I'll re-phrase with a question. When's the last time the Twins gave a 16 year old 3.13 million dollars?

I'm saying that just like with the draft, you don't let a major league mainstay keep you from drafting the next big thing.

Just like we did in grabbing Ben Revere, Aaron Hicks, Angel Morales....even though right now we have a number of OF vying for long term playing time.

We could have Jason Bartlett still manning SS, or we could have Miguel Tejada circa 2003 there....I don't think it changes anything.

Super.
