Three things that stick out to me...

1 - Rondo being one of the top 10 players on the game.
2 - I would have like to see Derrick Rose higher than 80, but it's understandable after looking at those ranked above him....somewhat.
3 - The gap (8 pts) between Lebron and the rest of the SF's listed.

I like the diversity this year. They didn't assume that if you're an all-star you're 90+ automatically. And I like also that they didn't make anyone 99 overall. However there are some errors there. Obvious ones:

-Rondo>Pierce, Allen, Nash, Billups, Parker
-Oden is not on Bynum and Bierdrins' level, yet
-Nowitzki<Gosol, Bosh, Boozer

They are obviously compensating for last year when every half-way-decent player turned out to be 95+ 3 years down the road.

I'd like to see a NBA 2k where the average starter is like a 72, and the average all-star is an 85, with maybe 10 players being 95+.

It seems like they are getting closer to this realism, but we will have to see how player progression figures into all of this.

Can't wait for it to come out!

Good point. We don't know yet what these players potential grade is from the information given. That's always interesting to look at as well. We'll see how well they do with their updates throughout the season.

How is Rondo rated higher than Devin Harris?
How is Vince Carter rated an 81?
Brook Lopez a 77?
Rose a 80?

By the end of last years updates in 2K9:
Devin Harris was a 93
VC was a 90
Brook Lopez was 84
Rose was 87

those are dramatic dropoffs IMO

I think they're just trying to spread out the ratings and give everyone a more unique identity rather than lump stars 90, good 80, decent 70, not so good 60, and how did he make the NBA 50. If you notice pretty much everyone dropped. Believe it or not even Rondo dropped.

the first rating that really stands out as weird is Battier's defensive ratings both only being a B+. after all the press he got as one of the best defenders in the NBA i would've expected them to jump that.

also: dejuan blair a 59? I mean, I know he fell, that doesn't mean you have to devalue his skill.

if anything, he should be in the 70s with a very high injury risk rating.

you have to look at this way..

25=50 on a differente scale

so 59=70ish...

It's rookie comparison. Maybe not 70s but definitely high 60s. A lot of rookies who definitely aren't as good as him (but were drafted higher) are ranked in the mid-60 area.

No way! It's going to be awsome! Bosh's rating being lower doesn't necessarily mean he's going to be worse than last year, in fact I bet you that you'll find he's better with features that are more like the real Chris Bosh. After seeing these ratings I'm even more excited.

De-Fense.

a low defensive rating will drop an overall rating big time. Rondo is a very balanced offensive and defensive player and so rating is a bit inflated because his only weakness is his jumpshot instead. but his jumpshot is off set by a high lay up ratings, speed, passing, awareness, handles, steals, on ball defense and more.

i doubt that. it is simply a result of guards will have higher ratings due to their versatility in skill.

big guys are generally all good at: low post, dunk, block stuff like that.

but guards by default of higher speed, agility, handling, and basic attributes like that will automatically have higher overall ratings.

i think dwights is a little low too to be honest. rondo's is waaaaay to high. i mean dwight is arguably the best center in the game, and is 89. rondo isn't better than kidd, nash, billups or parker. howard should be around the other elite while rondo should be lower than 82 at least.

Yea, I guess I underrated Melo.
I would give him an 87 at highest.

Nash I gave an 81 because his defense is nonexistant....Sessions hasn't produced a 38 minute season yet, not ready to give him above an 80, tho the potential is there.

these ratings blow. Live AND 2k now officially have ****** ratings..WHY DID THEY **** WITH THE RATINGS LAST YEAR AT THE END OF SEASON. They could have just used a ratio and lowered everyone that much..Ill just take the Magic for an example.

NBA 2k9
Dwight-95
Vince-92
Rashard-87
Jameer-87
===Perfect

NBA2k10
Dwight-89
Vince-81
Jameer-77
Rashard-75

Rondo 87? Is Roy really a 87 while Rashard Lewis is a 75?

Ansy

I think Rondo is grossly overrated and Dirk is underrated in this game, but we shall see what's up when we first play. Aside from that, I really like what they're doing with the rating system. Building up instead of backwards. By that I mean, not giving someone a 99 and then filling in the details after.

wow alot of players got screwed,

why are the rankings soo low this year ?

rondo a top 10 player ?

rondo is not better they any of these following players:
Brandon Roy 87 - roy should be rated higher.
Devin Harris 86- arguable.
Chauncey Billups 85
Andre Iguodala 84 - arguable.
Danny Granger 84
Tony Parker 84
Chris Bosh 84
Al Jefferson 84
Gilbert Arenas 84
Joe Johnson 83
Dirk Nowitzki 83
Kevin Durant 82
Amare Stoudemire 82

dirk 83 ?? and both boozer and jeffreson are 84 ?
amare 82 ???

ummm dirk & amare > booz and jeffreson

Gerald Wallace 78
Tayshaun Prince 77
Tracy McGrady 77
Richard Jefferson 76
Michael Redd 76
Rashard Lewis 75

these players are not that average to me. and blake griffen gets a 77 while he has never bounced a ball on an nba court. acoarding to this game he is already better then reshard lewis, mike redd, and as good as Josh Smith, David Lee, Lamarcus Alrdidge. even if that proves to be true, at this point you have to give these players better ratings why are they only as good as a rookie who hasnt even played yet. david lee lead in double doubles for god sakes. these are terrible ratings.

and the worst rating of all dwight howard at 89 ??? the best centre in the leauge deserves ATLEAST a 90.

maybe they have changed ratings or added rating that change the over all score say rose is fast but his three point shooting is very low and passing is alright free throw shooting lower and other things that can bring his over all down. but when you play with him he is the one of the fastest in the game. his awarness maybe low too they all add up.

rondo may have in great defence of awareness and is very athletic maybe how his rating is better than pierce. he dont shoot a lot but you cant give him a bad rating since he shoots at high percentage. they control it with tendencies

i can understand y rondo is so high... he owns at basically everything except shooting... consider this wen u make the ratings...

rondo is one of the top 5 quickest players in the league, hes got a crazy vertical for someone his size, the best rebounding point guard not named kidd, and hes got amazing ball handling and passing skills not to mention a lockdown defender... put all that together then add in his low shot rating...his shot which is only like 1 or 2 attributes isnt going bring him down enough...

if only the kid could shoot:cry:

My favorite player is Kobe but if Wade/James got generous ratings so did Kobe. Lets face it Kobe's BEST years are behind him. We can only hope that he can maintain the level he is at for the next 3 to 5 years and age gracefully. With the olympics and all the playoff games he has played he has put a lot of miles on those legs. It is fair to say that barring injuries Wade/James will have better seasons even if they dont have his complete game yet.

Tim Duncan should be rated as the best, with Kevin Garnett at second; just look at their production last season. When the Spurs have the big three out, they're just as good defensively as the Celtics.
Rajon Rondo shouldn't be third. The game needs to take into consideration how much easier it is for him to produce with Garnett, Allen, and Pierce distracting defenders. Derrick Rose could easily match Rondo's production if he had the big three backing him up.
I'm a big fan of Oden, but he shouldn't even be rated at 77. He hasn't proven himself yet.
Also, make Al Jefferson a center. I know he's small, but that's the position he always plays. He makes it work, so why doesn't the game?

If he wasn t injured i believe he would have definitely be better than oj mayo but these ratings are judge by how many games they played and there efficiency rating.

My point was that Kevin Martin was playing injured through 90% season and still performed as well as he did. He only missed like 15 or so games. And if your talking about efficiency, Martin was 46th best in the league... Ben Gordon was 62 and Oj Mayo was 102. Martin got shafted along with Dirk Nowitzki. These ratings are crap and better be adjusted when the season starts.

Im not sure if anyone else has brought this up yet but the rookie ratings are pretty good except for a few things. the biggest thing i see is that Ty Lawson is the 3rd highest rated player from the 1st rd picks in the draft while he was the 18th pick. I have nothing against Ty but I just think he is a bit high. Also I find it kind of funny that Thabeet being the 2nd pick is one of the lowest rated rookies on the game, he is 1 dimensional as being a defensive force but still haha.

And Derozen's is too low as well he should be a 70 at least... but I do agree with Thabeets rating and i feel as though they could have lowered it some if they wanted to

Rookies are rated way too high.. Griffin better than shard? Rookies have yet to prove anything and they are handed these high ratings.. I really hate this for 2k10..

Yeah I definitely agree with you on that there is no way that Griffin should be rated above Shard or 5 points above Beasley especially considering Beasley had his way with him in College when they faced off

I didn't even notice that Griffin was ahead of Rashard.

I like you

2k10 may have a realistic game, but they ALWAYS have horrible ratings...

Greg Oden being rated that high is insane

Rondo being a 87 overall even more insane

At the end of the day this is a very realistic game and will still be the best sports game to date but I do think that they need to redo the ratings... but when the first update comes out online the ratings will be changed anyways

Explanation on Rondo's rating.

Strengths:
Rebounding: top rebounding guard
Speed: one of the fastest players in the league
Handles: amazing handles, can crossover with the best of them
Quickness: again one of the quickest out there
Defense: a gambler, but most of the time makes the right choice
IQ: incredibly high, as evidenced by his vast improvement every year
Passing: very flashy, but smart passer. Knows when and where to get the ball and what speed. again another major strength
Layups: one of the most crafty scorers since Steve Nash.
Vertical: solid vertical, again at the top of guards with verticals.

Weaknesses:
Shooting (he spent all summer with Mark Price. he better have a better shot)

how else is he going to be rated? hes fast, athletic, defensively solid, rebounds with the forwards, creates ways to score.

He is WELL ROUNDED. his rating is a product of 2K's system that benefits well rounded players over specialists.

This years are the worst. If you are going to give a guy like Durant an overall of 82, then at least make it like Live in the 90's where they wouldn't give ratings higher than 93 for any player. 2k I believe started the whole thing of giving superstars ratings of 98 and 99

Guys really stop complaining about the ratings. You can always just edit them if you want.

Some things I noticed.

Kobe rated 97, Lebron 96, Wade 96, CP3 94

Looking at the Legends on the Game. Wilt rated 94, Hakeem 96 DRob 90, Magic Johnson 89, Larry Bird 93, Shaq in the 90's 87

How the **** could Magic be an 89 and CP3 a 94. How the hell is Dwight rated higher than Shaq (from the 90's)

FWIW Pippen was rated 91 (which was higher than Magic was in the 80's)

Derrick Rose is an 80 and Rajon Rondo is a 87?! WTF problem right there and why is Drik an 83 if he was ALL NBA FIRST TEAM. The ratings are wack but the game is diesel, bought it the other day

All small forwards except LeBron James are underated! Especially Gerald Wallace!

I've read a lot of these comments and i just bought the game yesterday...If everyone is so underrated.....than doesnt that mean that everyone is essentially the same as before. the only thing thats different is the number used to describe that value. As for Rajon Rondo....yes overrated in terms of the numbers.....but on the court those ratings don't amount to a guy who'll get you 30/10/10 every night. In fact....even with a rating that high if you use help d and keep him out of the lane he's not too great. Just like in real life. Those numbers say he does more things better than most point guards. but as we've seen in the past (derek fisher) a point guard who does a few things wonderfully can still be more dangerous and more useful when it matters.

Dont be mad that Ben gordon is rated so high. Use him to for what he's good at ....to score a bunch of points and sit during important defensive stints.

As for overal rating in 2K. Last year i felt that they really deprived the lakers of a good defensive rating in the beginning but by the time the season ended of course their rating was better than the celts. so things tend to change. That being said, I still consistently killed my friends who used the Celts while i used the Lakers. stats don't mean much when you know how to ball. I think thats what 2K is tryinig to get across. there is so much more going on than just the individual strengths of the players. An aspect that other games (live) seem to place too much of an emphasis on.
