The Rockets have added another guard to their growing list of training camp options in the backcourt, signing Rashad McCants to a non-guaranteed contract, a person with knowledge of the deal said Thursday.

McCants averaged 9.6 points per game last season, and has averaged 10 points per game in four seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Sacramento Kings. A 6-4 guard, he was the 14th player taken in the 2005 NBA Draft after helping North Carolina to the national championship.

McCants i think is really good. I am a UNC fan so this could be why, but thats not a bad core of Brooks, Ariza, McCants and T-Mac. Pretty athletic team.

Maybe he can replace Von Wafer as their scorer off the bench.

Im so glad we dont have him anymore. He doesnt play defense and only worries about himself. he had a bad attitude and forced up a lot of bad shots. he gets pissed when he doesnt get his way and tries to do too much himself instead of passing the ball. he plays too much one on one basketball and not team basketball. how perfect now is it for him to go play with Tmac and learn to play even more offense and no defense.

Thats because he was on a ****** team where he could act like the star... He didn't have much concurence at the SG.. Now he is on a roster full of guards that all want to grab some minutes (Battier, McGrady, Ariza, Budinger, JT, even Brooks can play at the 2). So he's going to have to work hard and shut his mouth. I think he can succeed here and be a Von WaferČ.

I'll approve of this signing... I think he will help put some more points on the board if given the chance

No, he is a headcase. He is a natural scorer, but he is a headcase. It goes back to UNC. He fell in the draft for that reason actually. Doesn't matter where he is.

I guess Von Wafer and Artest weren't headcase's then...

at least they play hard. McCants is that guy who will hit a 3, then he is so busy celebrating that his guy gets a layup on yhe other end.
I wish the best for him, but he is frustrating if he plays for your team

He seems to have a lot of pontential. Why were teams not making small offers.
The Heat could have used the guard play right?

long shot with all the guranteed contracts on the team at that position, dude would have to ball out of his mind to make this team, and who knows maybe he will,

McCants is garbage. He's a selfish player that looks to shoot first, and then shoot second and maybe if he hasn't already taken a bad shot, he'll pass, maybe, or he'll just turn it over. He doesn't drive to the rim all that often, and settles for a contested jumper way too often. You'd think he's allergic to defense the way he goes about things on that end of the floor. There's a reason the Kings and Wolves, two shittastic teams passed on this guy, and its not because he's awesome. He's a piece of ****.

If it's non guaranteed, then doesn't it mean he has to make the team?

you do realize that he wasnt the starter for us and once the coaches quit putting up with his **** he hardly played at all for us.

Hmm not guaranteed? He's a scorer, looks like the Rockets have really been stacking it this off-season. Maybe their not expecting T-Mac or Yao to play at all this season lol.
