LMFAO: You'd rather have the 27 year old Andre Ethier, and the almost 26 year old Markakis over Justin Upton? Who just turned 22 and has outperformed both this season.

I'm shocked no one mentioned Upton. And I wouldn't really consider players 26 and over in this thing. Give me a minute and I'll post a list.

McCann is both younger and miles ahead of Russel Martin (or Buster Posey, Teagarden, or Wieters)

... and you have to be kidding me with Ellsbury over Kemp - that is simply indefensible.

You may want to check that again - Manny (or Juan Pierre when Manny is out) is their left fielder and Ethier is their right fielder. Kemp actually hasn't played a single game in left field this year (or any year since his rookie year of 2006).

Now, if you are saying that Kemp should not be playing CF, you are wrong on that too. Kemp has played CF for the majority of his career and has a career UZR150 of +1.7 while Ellsbury has a career UZR150 of -6.5. So, not only is Kemp a center fielder, he is a better center fielder than Ellsbury.

Yeah, no doubt. I just didn't go that far with it. Not a Russell Martin fan, though.

ITS Daniel Bard Not Josh Bard

Haha my bad..

I didn't know Howard was 29 already, wow.

I would take Cano over Pedroia for the future, Cano is still developing in bounds both defensively and offensively.

Wright over Longoria? Who are you kidding. Longoria is 3 years younger, in his second year in the MLB, and already close to matching Wright's stats.

McCutchen is 22 and in his rookie year, and already has a WAR of 2.7

thats not the point hes not better than both yet! so you get the:facepalm:

Let's look at wOBA (a more advanced and less flawed version of OPS) and WAR which determines how many wins above replacement a player is worth

wOBA

Upton: .395
Ethier: .380
Markakis: .345

WAR

Upton: 4.9
Ethier: 2.8
Markakis: 1.7

LMAO...not even close. He's much better than both ALREADY

^^ again, McCann is much much better than Wieters. Using your stats of choice:

wOBA:
McCann - .364
Wieters - .321

WAR:
McCann - 4.1
Wieters - 1.4

It's really not close - especially considering Wieters is only a couple years younger.

Kenny Krew

But Wieters hasn't even played a full year..

^^ What's your point? That's even more of a reason it is ludicrous to say that he is as good as McCann right now.

LOL I have never heard of those stats, WAR and wOBA LOL

McCann is better then all those other Cs that was named, except for Mauer.

Hanson and Jurrjens pitchers of the future

Good point. I only like wins, batting average, and RBI's. THE MOST IMPORTANT STATS.

Considering the thread is talks about young/ bright future....I'd say Wieters. McCann is better now for sure though.

09-25-2009, 02:49 PM
^^ McCann is only 25 years old. Wieters is already 23 and is a good ways away from accomplishing what McCann has.

didn't realize how young Mccann was

Yeah, he looks really old.

Fangraphs had Wieters 5 and McCann 6 in terms of trade value.

atl_braves_fan
09-27-2009, 06:34 PM
^^ that article was BS - it factored in a lot more than performance on the field. Pujols wasn't even on the list and we can all agree that he would fetch the highest return of any player traded if on-field performance was the main factor.

First off, Hanley > Troy.
Not even a close debate, IMO.. not yet at least.

Also, most of you are putting guys in their upper 20's... this should be for players 24-25 and younger.
