Number 1 draft picks are generally really hyped up. It generally turns out that someone else picked later in the draft was really the better pick. From the 1994 draft to the 2008 draft, which player should have been the number 1 overall pick? You don't have to do them for EACH year, just the year you think the number one pick was definitely not close to the best player.

94,95,98,01,05 all come to mind

and yes hindsight has 96 as well, but it wasnt as messed up as some of the others and there was a reason for it

After how Derrick Rose played in the play-offs last year, I don't think you can say he shouldn't have been the number one draft pick...

Duncan, Lebron and Howard were all right.

At the time the GMs at the top of the draft were most interested in Rose and the media hype followed suit. Originally however, the media jumped on Beasley being the best player in the draft.. and even after the draft Chad Ford thought that Riley "won the draft" by default.

Lopez's rookie performance was surprising but I don't think he's a better player than Rose. If Lopez could have maneuvered his way onto a team like the Laker's (a la Bryant) then he could have had a better chance of having a better career than Rose.

At first glance I thought this thread was a thinly veiled attempt at suggesting "Brook is the best pick from 2008" but meh.. if someone thinks that so be it. I don't see it happening though.

wow illuminati has been working very hard to promote brook lopez the past couple of days, not saying hes not a good player but these comment like is lopez better than howard and lopez should have been the number one pick are just homer statements. Should Lopez have went top 5? probably but DEFINITELY not 1st.

rose has pretty much no ceiling (as long as he can keep his head on straight). i love b-lo but okc was right to skip him for westbrook just based on potential. brook was pretty raw out of college and wasnt very good either. not that athletic so the ceiling was much closer in some GM's eyes. one good thing was that he had the size and frame. you can't teach that.

Brook Lopez had Devin Harris and Vince Carter and couldn't make the playoffs. No way was he better than Rose.

Also in 1999, I wouldn't say Marion was a smarter chance than Brand.

I would too... but he gets injured too often. But I know Amare isn't an iron man either, just not as prone.

That I am!! I didn't make this thread because of him, otherwise I would have picked someone else other than Dwight Howard. Derrick Rose is a great player, easy top 12 PG in the NBA, I just think Lopez had an individual better year. What I like about Rose, however, is his assist to turnover ratio. He definitely takes care of the ball.

Yao and Rose are still the 1st picks. K-Mart and Brand weren't that much worse, and Oden has this season to show us what he's got. The 3 worst are obvious...Kwame Brown, Olowokandi and Bargnani. All big men, and Thabeet will fit right in next to these busts.
