View Full Version : Do the Wolves Hate Shooting Guards?

09-14-2009, 06:41 PM
Now before i get any bashing from Wolves fans, im not saying the moves or the recent ones were awful or terrible, I'm just talking about most of their trades that involved the wolves trading their Shooting guards.

Here's pretty much all the trades and draft picks that they either picked over or traded over a shooting guard.

1992 - Drafted Christan Laettner over Jimmy Jackson
1994 - Drafted Donyell Marshall over Eddie Jones
1996 - Ray Allen (traded to the bucks)
1999 - Drafted Wally Szczerbiak over Rip Hamilton
2006 - Brandon Roy (traded to Portland)
2008 - OJ Mayo (traded to Memphis)
2009 - Drafted Ricky Rubio and Johnny Flynn over Demar Derozen or Stephen Curry (sorry if Demar's name is spelled wrong)

So like i said, is it me or do the T-Wolves have a thing against Shooting guards? Esspically since right now the Wolves would right now rather have 3 point guards then a decent shooting guard.

Yeah maybe they took Rubio and Flynn over them because they got there guy in Ellington later

O yea.

Sorry. I was drawing a blank.

O yea.

Sorry. I was drawing a blank.

it's ok :D.

but still i find it kind of weird that the list i went over, they took most players that were either mediocre or were not as good as the opposing shooting guards they could have had.

Also as for Wayne ellington, that guy is more of a D-Leaguer :laugh2:

19999-2006. they didnt have a shot cause they wanted joe smith. such a stupid team

I also find it very hard for the wolves to ever compete with questionable moves like these.

THat is the old regime guys. Plus, we always had guys like Peeler, Sealy, Sprewell, West, Rider, etc.
Kahn drafts for value. When you are 22-60, and 24-58, you don't draft for need, ie, to fill out the roster.
Value is a very hard thing for PSD fans to understand I have learned.

McHale is gone, as is everything he touched outside Al Jefferson, Kevin Love, Ryan Gomes, and Corey Brewer. New coaches, new GM, new players. This will not be the same team
Besides, what short term memories we all have. The Wolves won 50 games 4/5 seasons from 99-04', and were the best team in the west during 03-04'. Its not like they didn't enjoy some success.
Trust me, better days are ahead for Minnesota. The very fact that there seems to be a new thread every single day already shows what Kahn has done, and that is generate interest.

they dont hate them they just made some bad decisions

You are correct.

Since Kahn has taken over I'm yet to like a trade or draft choice.

Our roster is now full of quality young players or expiring contracts. We have no need for anyone in between. Kahn is the man, just you guys watch.

2009 will be 3 more 1st round picks.
2010 will be a decent FA signing.
2011 will be Rubio.

2011 will be a heck of a roster, mark my words.

09-14-2009, 09:51 PM
Well, that was McHale who made stupid decisions, their new GM, Kahn is much better. So ignoring the past, this year, their weren't any good SGs available. I would've went with Rubio and Curry, but Flynn can probably be better than Curry from a pure talent perspective. DeRozan is all potential and a risky pick that high. Besides, Ellington is a good shooter, so he offers much of what Curry does.

maybe they are allergic to shooting guards

mabye a homer comment but i think ellington will be solid. but i also thought that about mccants. doesnt seem like they hate sgs too much.

Depends on how much Sessions and Flynn can get him open looks. I see him as a spot up shooter off the bench for you guys.

Flynn is quick and can get to the basket, I can see him kicking it for open shots, too. Love is a FANTASTIC passer, too. Jefferson, not so much.

I know I cant stand shooting guards, they are so dumb

09-15-2009, 01:02 AM
This really is a dumb thread. I mean you could do this for every team in the NBA if u tried hard enough. As for Curry if i remember right when he worked out for the team he couldnt guard anyone else on the floor. Evans and Flynn were the 2 guards the Wolves were impressed with most. Evans was gone so they took the other one they liked simple as that.

09-15-2009, 01:05 AM
Allen,Roy,Majo ... all traded awey

09-15-2009, 01:08 AM
we got love and inderectly Rubio for Roy and Mayo

Yes, the Wolves HATE shooting guards...... Some of you are morons.

09-15-2009, 10:08 AM
I don't think that they do not like shooting guards i just don't think that their scouts know how to evaluate talent... I mean if you put a B. Roye on that team that they have now then you are looking at a decent squad.... Every team makes mistakes you have to live and learn but the GREAT teams seem to learn a lot faster

When evaluating talent and drafting that talent, more times than not luck is involved. The whole league didn't have a problem with the Roy for Foye swap at the time.....
