PG: Allen Iverson/Mike Conley
SG: OJ Mayo/Marcus Williams
SF: Rudy Gay/Sam Young
PF: Zach Randolph/Darrell Arthur

No Chemistry involved, how good is this team on paper? playoff team? top 5 west team? still not a playoff team?

On paper, 42-46 wins in the west

But Iverson has to be coming off the bench

The Bench sucks, but they will be a scoring team.
Most likely, OJ Mayo, Zach Randolph, and Allen Iverson will look for the ball to score and selfish plays will happen?
maybeeeeeeeee.

Was iverson signed?!?!?!

and They look very good on paper, so do the clips, but even with the players they have, i still say there 9th or 10th in the west

SF: Rudy Gay/Sam Young
PF: Zach Randolph/Darrell Arthur
C: Hasheem Thabeet/Marc Gasol

No Chemistry involved, how good is this team on paper? playoff team? top 5 west team? still not a playoff team?

The lineup will look like this:
PG - Mike Conley/Marko Jaric/Marcus Williams
SG - OJ Mayo/Allen Iverson
SF - Rudy Gay/Sam Young/DeMarre Carroll
PF - Zach Randolph/Darrell Arthur
C - Marc Gasol/Hasheem Thabeet/Hamed Haddadi/Steven Hunter

Obviously they still have work to do, seeming as how they have 4 centers. If Gay, Mayo, Gasol or Conley improve, on paper this team looks like they are ready for playoff contention.

 Thabeet won't be starting a single game this season as long as Marc Gasol is healthy.

Put it this way, the Celtics' and Lakers' bench could beat their starting 5 in a best of 7 playoff series.

They ain't gonna make the playoffs, no how, no way.

Catfish1314

They have a ridiculous amount of talent. Not incorporating chemistry or defense, that would be one hell of a basketball team.

But since you can't win basketball games without both, they won't sniff the playoffs.

that team is potentially pretty solid. i dont see ai coming off the bench. they have solid bigs in randolph, arthur, gasol and thabeet. mayo and gay are both rising stars. this team could make a solid run to the playoffs, if and it is a big if, ai and mayo can share and not leave gay out, along with randolph playing up to his potential.

BkOriginalOne

Lots of talent for sure.
But Iverson has to come off the pine to save that weak ***** bench.
With the right coaching, you're looking at a team that can be around .500
Improvement for the grizzlies. But I wouldn't have them better than Pheonix.
With AI, they could be a top 5 scoring team but also bottom 5 in defense. Their offense is going to less effecient than the suns and warriors though.

Iverson will be 6th man of the year if he comes off the bench though.

zero defense and zero percent chance at the playoffs. they can score but so can the knicks

I'm not sure.

They have the potential and talent to win 50 games without injuries and chemistry issues.

In pickup games that team would do good...but contrary to what seems to be popular belief, NBA basketball is a bit more complicated than a pickup game.

Still cant see this team making the playoffs but maybe they can get close, they'll put up points but who is the stopper on defense? who will get others involved besides conley? A.I., Gay, Z-BO are 3 notorious chuckers, offense will have no flow. Also i dont think Thabeet is ready to carry the weight of such bad defenders around him, i applaud Memphis for trying to get better tho

Best shot we've had at it in 4 years.....and a healthy Gasol won't be replaced, at least this year, by Thabeet.

Ummm did you see Detroit last year and his comments "coming off the bench?"

Iverson ****s up your young players
Agreed.

Defense also will be questionable like someone else said. I think what is being understated here is why would you have a rookie starting with Gasol "experienced?"

Also, again AI will NOT come off the bench if your losing, maybe not at all. He will demand 40-45 min a game.

If they won 24 games last year I'd say 30-40 wins is a good figure. Still not enough to make the playoffs.

09-12-2009, 12:00 PM
Wow I guess ppl dont understand the meaning of NO CHEMISTRY involved! JUST ON PAPER!!!! On paper this team is Top 5 in the West for sure.

But there are alot of good teams on paper. Team chemistry and team defense play a huge part on a good team. Therefore realistically they'll be battling for the playoffs as 7th or 8th seed.

Taimla
09-12-2009, 12:14 PM
JUST ON PAPER: this team is a high scoring team but stil not a play/off team.

Its realy look like 2007/08 Denver Nuggets.

iverson, JR SMith,Melo ,Martin and Camby - looking strong on paper but lost to the LA wery clearly 4-0 in PO.

A.I.=A.I. Smith=Majo Melo=Gay Martin=Randolph Camby=Thabeet in overall its almost same.

its same as Griz... offensive:YES defensive:NO, even with a defensive player of the year with Camby, like griz have Thabeet.

they might be a play/off team ON PAPER but they wouldn't do nothing speical in play/offs.

I believe Iverson is going to be starting, the reason why they brought him there was for public relations and to fill the seats. He feel that he has a lot to prove, how is he going to do that on the bench, behind Conley (who is a bust as his Ohio State teammate Oden)?

HOW do you figure ??? the boston celtics 2nd unit can not beat the starting line up of iverson, mayo, gay, zbo, gasol ...

if you think soo then your a homer, its good to be a fan of your own team but riding your own dick is worst the being gay.

On paper, they're a great team once you rule out personalities and chemistry.

Allen Iverson- Enough said. Mike Conley is a more than reliable back up at the point.
OJ Mayo- Entering his sophomore year, will raise his game. Marcus Williams is a decent back up.
Rudy Gay- Will improve, top 10 SF in my opinion.
PF: Zach Randolph- Everyone knows he is more than capable of getting 20/10 but will he be a team player? That's the big question. Darrell Arthur will also improve and is a good back up.
C: Hasheem Thabeet- Will he be a good defensive presence or just another Desagana Diop? I feel like Marc Gasol should start at center. Either way they have a good front court.

If every single thing goes their way, which won't happen but if does they can easily be a 6th-8th seed in the west.

Offence is only half the game and there is only so many possesions per game. if Thabeet can be good as projected, it will help their defence.

Trade Barry, Cook and Dorsey
Barry, Dorsey and Cook to (fill in blank) for a 2nd round pick.
Sacramento if you ask DRE'-MAC

C: David Andersen/Pops Mensah Bonsu/PJ Ramos?
PF: Luis Scola(2009 MVP of the FIBA Americas Championship)
Carl Landry/Chuck Hayes
SF: Trevor Ariza/Chase Buddinger(avg. 17.8 points in 2009 Summer League)
SG: Shane Battier/Jermaine Taylor
Tracy McGrady - (should come back strong - sooner than later!)
PG: Aaron Brooks/Kyle Lowry

Exactly! They really look scary though. They also have crazy players too, so if there is one team you shouldn't mess with this year it'd be the Grizzlies.

Unfortunately there is only one basketball to play with, not four. It will be very interesting to watch them play though. I honestly don't know how they're going to do it. OJ Mayo was suppose to be another Allen Iverson in the making, I would hope that bringing in Allen Iverson doesn't hurt his development though.
