You know what I'm talking about, a forward that is big and strong enough to play the 4, but also a good enough shooter to step out and shoot the 3-ball.

A couple players that come to mind (including last year's stats):

- Antawn Jamison: 22.2 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 1.9 apg, .468 FG%, .351 3P%, 38.2 mpg

- Rashard Lewis: 17.7 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 2.6 apg, .439 FG%, .397 3P%, 36.2 mpg

- Charlie Villanueva: 16.2 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 1.8 apg, .447 FG%, .345 3P%, 26.9 mpg

- Lamar Odom: 11.3 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 2.6 apg, .492 FG%, .320 3P%, 29.7 mpg

- Al Harrington: 20.1 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 1.4 apg, .439 FG%, .364 3P%, 34.9 mpg

- Rasheed Wallace: 12.0 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 1.4 apg, .419 FG%, .354 3P%, 32.2 mpg

- Michael Beasley: 13.9 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 1.0 apg, .472 FG%, .407 3P%, 24.8 mpg

- Shawn Marion: 12.9 ppg, 8.5 rpg, 2.0 apg, .485 FG%, .189 3P%, 35.8 mpg
* the guy pretty much had an off-year last year

- Zach Randolph: 20.8 ppg, 10.1 rpg, 2.1 apg, .475 FG%, .330 3P%, 35.1 mpg

- James Posey: 8.9 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 1.1 apg, .412 FG%, .369 3P%, 28.5 mpg

- Jeff Green: 16.5 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 2.0 apg, .446 FG%, .389 3P%, 36.8 mpg

Who's the closest to Dirk?

Who's the closest to Dirk?

Dirk is in a class by himself. None of these guys have a game like Dirk's but since you put Jeff Green up their I'm gonna advocate for my guy...Wilson Chandler, hes no Dirk but he should be mentioned.

Wilson Chandler #21 SF
2008-09 STATS
PPG RPG APG
14.4 5.4 2.1 .....he was a starter and came off the bench during the season.

whre is barganini and gallinari
?

bargnani isn't the player that Jamison and Odom are...and he isn't what Sheed once was.

gallinari needs to play a little bit more to prove he can hang in this class. the potential is there, but his back isn't.

Dirk is in a league of his own though. It's hard to compare anyone to him. He can put the ball on the floor, fade away, shoot the three, off-foot shots, runners, left and right hand, baby hooks, high free throw %...all at 7 feet tall. Odom could be up there but he's not consistent enough and still hasn't lived up to his potential.

bargnani is the closest the in terms of physical tools and ability. look for bargnani to continue improving. but for now dirk is unrivaled.

you could add josh smith and ak47 to that list.

Ak47, Okur. Bargnani.

Dallas native LaMarcus Aldridge is 6 11 and is great in transition and has an unstoppable jumper just like Dirk but Dirk is kinda by himself.

Nobody on that list is anything close to Dirk, Lamar is just as unique as Dirk but in other ways.

Rashard Lewis for sure, he posts up SFs and beat PFs with his speed and shooting ability

I would say Bargnani should be up there, he plays a very similar style to Nowitzki, he averaged something like 20 points and 7 rebounds in the second half as well and was very clutch.

Josh Smith isnt ANYTHING like Dirk. He's not a shooterat all and he gets most of his points off the fast break and when he attempts to drive into the lane.

lewis is the closest for me. if this thread is just about being compared to dirk then dont mention somebody like smith as he is all athleticism were is dirk is a shooter. but if we are talking about good hybrids of the pf/sf spot then smith must be mentioned

Josh Smith doesn't even have a jumpshot, let 3-point range. Josh Smith is not in this.

yes smith should not be discussed in this thread, as it is a comparison to dirk and he is not similar to dirk in the slightest, as i podted earlier. but you cant argue that smith is one of the better hybrids. he can easily play both forward positions.

The Rooster will be taking over that top spot after a year or two. Gallo already has a better stroke than any of those guys, is agile as **** and has handle. He's also a way better passer than most of those dudes mentioned.

He wont be grabbing more boards than Dirk, but when you look at Gallos total game its not hard for me to believe he could surpass Dirk one day in overall skill.

Dont front on The Rooster!

WHAT!? Zach Randolph? Are you serious? I can't believe noone said anything about this yet haha.

But no, there is no "Dirk type" because Dirk is unique.

DitchDat
09-07-2009, 08:02 AM
he's a forward that adopted the 3-point shot. True, I shiver every time he takes one, but he has worked on his 3-point shot and added it to his game.

I'm also not talking about centers, so if you want to not include Rasheed Wallace, that's fine. Forwards with no shot (Josh Smith) and centers (Bargnani) should not be included. I'm talking about hybrid forwards.

I just picked Dirk because he is pretty much the prototype of a combo forward, so, at least for this thread, look past the 7-foot thing, because I know Dirk is unique. I'm just inquiring about forwards who can succesfully play both forward positions and have the strenght and the range to pull it off.
