Would that team make the playoffs? People keep saying that Melo carried this team to new heights last year, but I'm pretty sure it was the departure of A.I and addition of Billups. I personally think Billups is the true leader of this team and Melo is just their main scorer.

I say they're the 8th seed at most.

PG: Carter
SG: Afflalo/Smith
SF: Melo
PF: Martin
C: Nene/Birdman

With Houston injured and LA, OKC, and Golden State still very young...I see them making the 8th seed.

Give a reason to why or why not they would or wouldn't make the playoffs without Billups.

Miss playoffs.

Billups is the leader of that team, without him they would be lost.

And Carter a starting PG in a tough WC?

Come on...

Rather have Lawson start.

They'd miss the playoffs. I think Billups is the real leader, Melo being the go to guy.

No PG, no playoffs.

Does everyone forget that the Nuggets haven't missed the playoffs with Carmelo on the team? Missing the playoffs is ridiculous. Tell me who the PG was in the '03/'04 season.

And Melo, Nene, & JR Smith are completely different players.

Then I will rephrase my statement. No PG, might as well not even make the playoffs cause you ain't gonna do jack **** anyways.

Billups is a very good player but, Melo is better. Last season playoff game against the Lakers, Billups 7pts, 8 assists. Nuggets Lost!!!

Compare that to how many times the Nuggets have lost when Melo had a good game and you will have a better idea what we're talking about.

They'd still be better than the Mavericks....... :p

For real the Nuggets would be worser with Melo out than Billups. With Melo there a playoff team, w/o there not.

Last year the Nuggets really overachieved with Billups and are just a solid west team in a conference that was down last year. Yes his leadership put them in a great situation and allowed Melo to be the hands down best player. on the team. Most of the credit to Billups with some for Melo

Take Billups off and put Iverson back on that team and they don't make it past the Hornets.

They'll miss playoffs for sure, I said something like this before; Melo is not a leader, Miller, then AI and now Billups is the leader of the Nuggets team. Melo is just the primary and go-to scorer (he wasn't even that when AI was there), Melo is a good player but not a good leader. If Nuggets win the title (which they likely won't), Finals MVP goes to Billups IMO.

Let's look at it this way. How did Kobe do before the Gasol trade? Didn't kobe miss the playoffs some season ago?

How did Pierce do before the 07-08 season?

Melo is the best player on the nuggets and he is the leader on the nuggets, but stars need to be surounded by other good players to win.

Maybe if they are lucky.

they became a dominating team when they traded AI for Chauncey Billups because he is a floor general unlike AI who is a one man team. Billups brought another coach onto the floor and he really does make the "Big Shot"

Lawson would probably still start over AC.
Melo would lead the NBA in scoring and JR would average about 25 himself.
They'd be about 10th.

Nope. Kobe took his team to the playoffs with this team:

wooow excellent title, had to read it. Especially being from Detroit and one of the biggest Mr Big Shot fans.

I think lawson will be great once Chaunc teaches him what to do - but carter could also be good teacher. I would say Make playoffs... possibly get to 2nd round.

04-05? 34 wins? Missed the playoffs this season

05-06 Lakers got 45 wins

06-07 Lakers got 42 wins

I'm 100% sure Nuggets could get 45 wins without Billups.

Also, Nuggets would be a 58 mill salary team without Billups. No team in the west would make the playoffs with a 58mill salary with none of the role players in their rookie salaries (Like Kevin Durant, Jeff Green, Westbrook, Harden etc.).

Exactly. The "Take Billups Off The Nuggets" argument fails to address the fact they'd sign someone else at PG. (This year, it would've been Andre Miller. Him & Melo always made the playoffs on the Nuggets)

That is like saying take Duncan off the Spurs or Nash from the Suns. Neither of them are necessarily the best player on their teams (Parker/Ginobil, and Stoudemire), but definitely the leaders.
