Clippers have a young team with a lot of trading pieces and will have enough money to get 2 allstar players in 2010. Should they change name and colors to attract new players and start fresh, kinda how the Patriots turned it around?

I would like to know what everyones opinion is....

I think so, shame they cant move to another city to, get out of the shadows of the other LA team, could be a chance of a fresh start...why didnt it work out in san diego?

they need to leave LA. they will never get out of the Lakers shadow. they need to start fresh with a new owner, new city and a new name and colors.

^^^ They are in contract with Staples Center. I don't think they want to move, they are paying way less then the Lakers and if they start winning they can boost up their ticket sales.

I suppose, and in regards to the vote their colors and name doesnt suck, I just feel they will always be the B team in LA which will hold them back

A relocation may help the franchise some, but LA is still a huge market and even playing second fiddle to the Lakers, the Clippers still most likely get a ton of loot just from being in that area. Where else are they going to go?

And a big time no to changing the name of the team. No point. The Clippers have a good, old timey sports franchise name. What, you want to give them some awful new-age name like the Thunder? Please.

Winning cures all.

A couple of 50 win seasons and playoff appearances would be a good way to get players to want to play there and to get noticed. The Wizards changed their name and uniforms. How'd that work out for them?

If any changes need to be made, it needs to be turning the culture of the franchise around and putting together a winning season...

they should just move out of LA

This makes the most sense, but the Clippers are contractually obligated to play in LA.

Yes. In fact, not only should they change their name, but the should relocate. As long as they're the L. A. Clippers they will remain in the Lakers shadows and be mentioned as one of the worst franchises in professional sports. I always thought that it was weird that there's no NBA team in St. Louis, maybe they should move there.

Dave Dameshek of ESPN 710 has been talking about this for a long time now.

I agree they should. For all the reasons Dameshek has previously stated. It gives them a sort of clean slate....

I think changing it from Los Angeles to Hollywood is one of the best ideas.

Hollywood Knights is my favorite suggestion so far.

LOL, how does it make sense, they are obligated to play in LA, because they WANT to. There is no other location they could move to where they could make the same amount of $ if they were to stay in the big market where they actually developed a fanbase.

Not to mention that wasn't a question or an option in the original post.
Nor was changing ownership or general management.
I agree, for business reasons the Clippers aren't changing names, colors, or going anywhere.

Not the name, but change the logo maybe.
I think success is coming soon for LA's second team, so it'd be cool to see them do it as they are now.

The Los Angeles Fakers...

Jokes aside, they need a HUGE management shift and Dunleavey, GTFO. Its sad because I remember back in 02, it was more expensive eating a Fatburger than buying a ticket for the Clips game.

The Clippers moved into the Los Angeles Sports Arena, a facility so outdated that the Lakers had abandoned it nearly 20 years earlier. But even though the team averaged fewer than 8,500 fans per game in its first three years in LA -- among the worst attendance in the league -- that was almost double the team's draw in San Diego. Plus, the arena charged the Clippers just a few thousand dollars per game in leasing fees, making profitability easy. Even better, Sterling was in his hometown with a pro sports franchise in his portfolio, providing a public profile he'd never enjoyed.

I get why the location matters as a business reason but brand recognition? I'm not sure if Washington lost money when they became the Wizards.

First change coach/GM,

Donald Sterling is the only one to blame. He continues to make $$$$ so he doesn't care if the team wins or loses.

No they shouldn't change the name, if they don't change anything but the name they will get the same results regardless.
Just a question, how do you have them with enough cap space to bring in 2 stars in 2010?

I never said we shouldnt change our names, its not like we have the tradition of the Bullets and they did it so, why not. But they stay in LA

i didnt vote for either because for the most part
i like our colors....
the one thing i hate is the RED ROAD jerseys its like those are too synonymous with FAILURE (moreso than the white ones)

i would like to see the Road Blue Jerseys permanently replace the red ones...they look cool and they are like nothing else out there....
but yeah i think we desperately need a jersey change more than anything than work from there

Because they are the clippers!!

But seriously, these players aren't winners and teamplayers!Ok randolph is gone but he was horrible, puts up better numbers than gasol but is 10 times worse than Pau.Kaman-lowest basketball IQ ever after Smush Parker and Kwame Brown.Davis-horrible shooter, shoots 37%from the field 30% from beyond the three point line, and one-third of his shots were three pointer, that makes 5.1 three point attempts per game!WTF?????
Gordon is a rookie. And Thorton is a bigman who takes shitload of jumpshots!

THATS WHY!!!

I don't think they should change anything. Nba is getting way too colorful. You got the wizards, philadelphia, new jersey wearing different jersey every other night. everytime you change the channel, i think it's a new team.lol. Stick with one uniform and switch it once in a while, but not a whole season. New names are kinda of weird such as the bobcats and thunder. LA Clipper just need to win and keep winning. When golden state made it to playoffs, it gain a lot new fans. Then they didn't make it to the playoff the next year, so the anticaption was lost. It happened to clippers a while back when they made the playoffs with brand, mobley, and sam. then the gm messed up the team and boom la went back to losing. So i think winning is more important than changing cities, jerseys, names. Last, why would would you want to move your team away from the big city of LA? If i was on a losing team i would be happy my team is in a big city such as la.lol
