NOTE: the pre-Shaq roster is from back then, but the players on it are to be viewed as who they are now

Just wanted opinions of the PSD'ers

Miami Heat now:
PG - Mario Chalmers
SF - Michael Beasley
C - Jermaine O'Neal
SG - Dwayne Wade
PF - Udonis Haslem
Bench: Quentin Richardson, Daequan Cook, Joel Anthony, Yakhouba Diawara

Miami Heat pre-Shaq:
PG - Dwayne Wade
SF - Caron Butler
C - Brian Grant
SG - Eddie Jones
PF - Lamar Odom
Bench: Udonis Haslem, Rafer Alston, Malik Allen, Rasual Butler

What Miami Heat team is better?

Then Caron Butler and Lamar Odom weren't as good as today... Also Wade developed his game...

With Brian Grant gone, Udonis Haslem would have to be their (undersized) center like when he was a rookie

If Brian Grant was still playing he would get absolutely abused by Dwight howard causing severe matchup problems. Eddie Jones would be an injury liability as well and would not be able to guard the younger 2 guards playing now. Great argument could be made for both teams. In the end Shaq did help to get a championship there so the trade was a win.

In the end Shaq helped the Heat get a championship. I don't care about how amazing Wade did in the playoffs. No Shaq=No Title.
To answer the question I'll go with pre trade. You have Wade, Butler and Odom. Actually this team kind of remind me of the Wizards a little. Also you would have to replace guys like Grant, Eddie Jones.

Not really. They probably would have picked up a player or two since then...

The Heat now is more promising with Beasley than when we drafted Caron Butler. Plus 1 we won a championship. Plus 2 we have Chalmers and Cook. I would take the Heat now. Plus 3 were rebuilding and next year there is not 1 player under contract.
