Friday night, Dime’s Aron Phillips spoke to an unnamed source who works in the NBA and said that Allen Iverson has worked out the details of a contract with the Charlotte Bobcats, but the deal won’t be official until next week. The general consensus surrounding A.I. is that the 34-year-old is too stubborn to blend into a contender’s system, and at the same time, will stunt the development of any up-and-coming young team. But Iverson in Charlotte could be a win-win for both sides: The ‘Cats need a go-to scorer on the perimeter, and Raja Bell and Gerald Henderson are more than expendable as far as coming off the bench while Iverson starts at two-guard.

with chandler, diaw, wallace, iverson and felton theyre gonna have a great team to run with. definitely gonna put up a fight for the 7-8 spots in the east.

It looks like the Charlotte Bobcats are truely stacked. This certainly gives them a shot at the playoffs as long as nothing wrong happens. I don't know what is going to happen with some of their guards though, they have plenty of guards.

I think a lot of people forget that Allen Iverson still has some gas left in his tank. 17 and 5 is not bad at all and that is what he'll likely perform.

Not sure about that...this may turn him away from them, and seeing that the 76ers need a new PG you never know.

i wanted him back on my sixers but glad hes got a solid team to run with.

and yes folks larry brown and a.i now have a good relationship. once again the media manages to make something out of nothing just to bash A.I.

shaking my god damn head.

This great for AI, the Bobcats and the NBA. I really think this trade puts the Bobcats in the playoffs if Wallace, AI and Chandler stay healthy. That is good for a team about to be sold.

If the Bobcats really wanted to shock the world, they'd trade Gerald Wallace and Raja Bell to the Jazz for Boozer. That would send them to the playoffs for sure, save them money to re-sign Felton this year, and also save them money down the road. Maybe that would get them a better owner.

PG:Augustin (spelling?)

C: Chandler

thats definitely a 8-7 spot playoff team

i agree with you.. people really under estimate AI now. this is the TYPE of team he plays well with, he's got a great defensive player i wallace, a pretty good passing point guard and a great passing bigman in diaw. chandler is the perfect center for iverson. then they have some bench players
dj
bell etc..

i see AI getting 25ppg with 5assists

and i see the bobcats as the 6th or 7th seed

The 6-12 spots in the East are very tight. They're going to have a very tough time making the postseason, especially after trading Okafor for Chandler.

I don't see Larry Brown starting Henderson from the get-go. I think it's much more likely that you will see Raja Bell as the starter. If this signing becomes actual, then you will likely see Felton sign the one year tender or possibly (although much more unlikely) get sent packing in a S&T. Felton would likely start over Augustin next year, if still with Charlotte.

AI will do well in Charlotte, he had most of his success with Larry Brown and now has a team similar, but better, to his 2001 Finals team, alot of defensive-minded individuals who can hit open shots.

I like this signing because it give the Cats a creative scorer on the perimeter that they needed. Iverson may be on the downside of his career, but he's still an elite ball handler and can still break down defenses with the ball in his hands.

I don't like this signing because it could mean the end of Raymond Felton in Charlotte. And he's one of the best defenders at his position in the entire league.

What they may do is a sign him to a 1 year qualifying offer. I don't know if there are any more teams out there that want him that can offer him more than the MLE now. But yeah if this signing means the end of Raymond Felton, then it's a horrible deal. If he stays, it can be a good one.

why will this be any different than what we saw last year in Detroit? Cause LB can keep him in a cage? He will still not want to come off the bench and demand minutes.

LB needs a magic wand for this one...

Not a shock at all. I think Larry Brown is the only coach who still loves Iverson. I thought this would happen a long time ago when Brown said he would love to coach him again. What took so long?

They need to retain Felton now, otherwise this signing was completely futile.

But if they do retain Felton, I could see them not only making the playoffs, but possibly advancing to the 2nd round.

This smells of desperation on all three parties.

Brown is desperate to redeem his reputation with at least the team's first ever playoff spot.
Iverson needed this to salvage his reputation and pride with the Bobcats.

The Cats needed a guy to fill seats and make the playoffs before the eventual rumored sale.

I think they will squeak into the playoffs and get run over by the Cavs or Celts.

I dont think they should sign Felton. I think they should trade for Shaun Livingston now. Like, Ajinica + 2nd Rounder for Livingston.

Livingston is 6'7 PG, who can defend the SG's. I would say, this is how the mins would play then.

PG: Shaun (15) / DJ (26) / AI (7)
SG: AI (28) / Bell (20)
SF: G-Force (34) / Radman (14)
PF: Diaw (30) / Diop (18)
C: Chandler (30) / Nazr (18)

Are you dumb enough to think that Diaw is better than Boozer? Are you being serious? Diaw is a perfect guy off the bench to play SF or PF. To say he's even in the same league as Boozer is just plain stupid.

If the Bobcats want to make the playoffs for sure, they'd sign AI, trade for Boozer and re-sign Felton. Boozer next to Chandler would make both players even better.

Dime Magazine's web site reports that Allen Iverson and the Bobcats already have agreed to terms on a contract that will be signed within a week. I'm told by a great source that's not true. However, that doesn't mean Iverson won't be a Bobcat. It sounds like there's a good chance that will happen. My source says definitively that Iverson's first choice is to play for Larry Brown again in Charlotte, and that there have been serious discussions about making that happen. However, there are complications.

From Charlotte Observer (http://blogs.charlotte.com/inside_the_nba/2009/08/no-deal-yet-but-iversontobobcats-viable.html)

That's the only reason that I think they'd consider bringing him in. They want Felton on this team. But they don't want to give him a long term contract. I can eventually see him settling for the one year tender & then leaving after next season. His value could be at an all-time low after this season though if they bury him behind both AI & Augustin.
