“We are operating a diverse business all around the world,” Silver says. “(The sponsored game jersey) is a well-established practice in other countries. Ultimately, I think our fans will come to accept it.”
Yeah because we HAVE to accept everything you guys do... ****ing stern and silver..

TheKing23
08-02-2009, 08:10 AM
Hate it...
Don't mind the ads on practice jersey, but when you think about the history behind some of the jerseys, imagine "Coca Cola" plastered all over the green of Boston, or "Sony" on the yellow and purple of L.A or "Gatorade" covering the iconic Chicago Bulls jersey...
Just isn't right, Stern's morals are screwed up, doing this could lose a lot of fans, national and international.

Practice Jersey's are ok. Game Jersey's hell no. In Football there are to many commercials any way.

why would they put ads on practice jerseys? how many people would that reach? not enough to pay for sponsorship.

08-02-2009, 12:28 PM
it's a good way for teams and the league to raise revenue. the patterns and the colors should be what symbolize the team not the name across the chest. haha i want my nets wearing the rocawear logo across the chest.

why are you guys making such a big deal out of it....theyre practice jerseys

Hellcrooner
08-02-2009, 12:45 PM
No, thats horrible soccer teams use it and basket teams in europe use it so much that they use the brand name before the team name and its horrid, in europe it makes sense because its a free market and there are no salary caps or max slaries so the more money you make th ebetter your team will be so you have to take whatever money can get but since in nba there is a cap and max saalries teams DONT need to rape their jerseys

zambo4president
08-02-2009, 12:48 PM

im fine with it on practice jerseys.

dont like it for games tho

arkanian215
08-02-2009, 01:25 PM
I dont see what's wrong with a jersey with an emblem on the left pect and an ad across the middle. as long as the team logo and colors are there, and nothing fruity is across the chest, i dont care. i dont know what the problem is... what are you guys the fashion police?

i think it could be a good idea as long as they implemented a set date when the advertisements would end.....a lot of teams need a new source of income, and as long as the NBA guaranteed the ads would not be allowed in 5 years or so, i don't mind it

arkanian215
08-02-2009, 02:01 PM
well like in soccer it would be contractual. it would be an agreement between the team, the sponsor and the league. whoever doles out the most money will pay year by year for branding rights.
and no the names will not change just the logo across the chest.

Mikeleafs
08-02-2009, 02:09 PM
This is what happens when teams are in cities where there isn't enough fan support. The league needs to do this to generate revenue in these tough economic times... Either they do this or move teams like New Jersey, OKC, and Memphis to markets that can actually support an NBA franchise.

arkanian215
08-02-2009, 02:29 PM
yeah i suppose in the context of salary capped teams, the money should be sent to the league and allocations are sent to various teams based on market power. teams like the grizzlies and okc can get larger allocation which has to go towards team expenses and cant be pocketed by owners. if the sponsorship money completely went to the teams then it would be pointless since it's just reinforcing and maybe making the difference worse.
but honestly i dont see the league wanting equality or a more competitive league since the league itself will earn less money in the end. leagues around the world really benefit from having a set of frontrunners for a long period of time.
the nets wont be in such a small market for much longer, hopefully.

i absolutely hate ads, and this will make it even worst. already we have the NBA MVP award presented by Kia, i don't want to see the Toyota Rockets or the Verizon Wizards. what's funny is that in the article it says the deputy commissioner thinks the fans will eventually be open to the idea. IMO if they eventually allow ads on actual game jerseys you'll see a drop in jersey sales. soccer has ads on their jerseys, and since i have become a fan of soccer, i'd never buy a jersey because of the ads on there. if it just stays with the practice jerseys then fine, but if it leads to ads on game jerseys then i'll be real mad.

B.JenningsMVP
08-02-2009, 03:00 PM
Beginning this season the NBA will let teams sell ads on their practice jerseys, says deputy commissioner Adam Silver, who adds the league is continuing to explore the issue of ads on game jerseys.

chicago lulz
08-02-2009, 03:55 PM
Well, if the ads bring in money that was given to the teams for cap space and such, then whatever. But I'd rather not see that stuff. Looks lame as hell.

lol not the same thing. not even close.

arkanian215
08-02-2009, 04:52 PM
lol you assume that the brand is gonna be in the name but it won't be. that's not the point of having ads on jerseys.

arkanian215
08-02-2009, 04:53 PM
it's one sponsor per team...

arkanian215
08-02-2009, 04:57 PM
umm when has it not been about corporate sponsorship? the yankees are a company, same with the islanders and the rest of prosports. it's just another company on the jersey. lol the it's not american excuse isn't valid.

As long as my teams compete I dont care. You all are saying "oh no it doesnt look pretty." god.

no ur missing the point.

ur defacing ur teams identity by putting a ****ing logo on it. sure its been going on in euro ball but thats the way its been since it was founded.

but in the NBA u would be tarnishing the history.

let me ask u this?

would it be cool if ur Nets still sucked and instead of the logo it just had MAXIPAD written on the front?

would that be fine with u?

it would be immoral to the sport and there is really no reason to do it.

junion
08-02-2009, 05:21 PM
i checked out the la galaxy jerseys, and the ones you actually purchase from the store have herbalife on the chest. that sucks.

if it's the practice jerseys, that's fine, but during the games that's going to bug me. but i don't think they can generate money from practice jerseys.

i just hope it doesn't get ugly.

I won't ever buy a jersey that has sponsors all over it. I love how NBA jerseys don't even have the manufacturer's logo showing anywhere but the jock tag on the bottom. As long as it's just the practice jersey and not the game jersey or shooting shirts, It's ok, though.

arkanian215
08-02-2009, 05:53 PM
lol if the team's identity is what's written across the chest then why not just have plain white home strips and black aways? taking out the name shouldn't make a difference. if it didn't say lakers across the chest, would they still be the lakers? of course.

it's not defacing it. the colors and patterns would still be there.
how would it tarnish the nba's history? if anything it would allow them to expand into new areas (new cities or even create an entire secondary league that fights for promotion) but the least it would do is help make smaller market teams more competitive if it's structured right.

well first of all maxipad wouldnt put ads on nba gear. it's just bad product placement. lol

lol even if they choose to sponsor the nets, they're still my nets. im not gonna bail out on them because of the sponsor across their chest?

immoral? lol give me a break.

Stop post padding........The Yankees are a company who puts Yankee on thier jersey.....the team is the company who sponsors itself through self marketing and self management.....American
i dont want to see Verizon wireless on a magic uniform...or a corporate company decides to buy out a huge portion of the team...i like to see 3 things team name player name and player number....not another walking talking basketball playing euro style league
Samsung Sonics
Chrysler cavilers

Its just simple and beautiful to have your teams name and thats it...been that way and should forever stay that way...sponserships should stay in commercials and off the court..otherwise and watch euro sports like soccer and euro ball

by the way the only way i would ever ever want this if a team cannot financially compete and are broke would i ever allow it in my league if i was stern

This is messed up. I can guarantee that once they are on practice jerseys, they will eventually find their way onto game jerseys. Silvers said it himself in that USA 2DAY article, that he was open to it. **** the NBA's FO.

arkanian215
08-02-2009, 07:01 PM
well it's not just the teams that don't have much money. it also applies to teams that have owners who don't want to spend the money on their team so they keep the salaries low and pocket the rest.

it sure is... the league would make more money putting out these sponsorship contracts than they would make selling jerseys.
volkswagon spends about 3 mil a year putting their logo on dc united jerseys. mls is small compared to the nba. i wonder what the contracts would be like for a team like the grizzlies, okc, indiana, etc. surely they'll earn more.

Remember what (Alonzo) Mourning said after meeting Ratner? “I asked him, ‘Other than your investment for financial purposes, what’s the reason you bought this team?’ And you can ask anybody in there: He said, ‘To move it to Brooklyn.’ I didn’t hear ‘to win a championship.’ I didn’t hear that come out of his mouth.”

I honestly don't mind being in a smaller market or having to rebuild, I've been there before. But this stuff is just saddening.

I could live with practice and summer league jerseys, but not game jerseys. That would look stupid.

We already have the Nike swoosh logo and the Adidas logo on jerseys. That's enough for me. If anything we should just make those a little bigger. I wouldn't want McDonald's on the back of jerseys and crap like that. That would be ridiculous!!!!
