I'm just going to include the guys who come to mind first.

I should rephrase...which pg would you build a franchise around?

Most talented? Tyreke Evans. Best pure PG? Brandon Jennings.

I like what Jennings can do now and his upside since he's still young. I like Rubio's court vision more and is the youngest in the draft. He also has had professional experience for a while now. I like Teague, Curry, and Evans as combo types (Teague the most though).

I like the little man flynn.
Also Eric Maynor is very underrated.

the PG class was so deep this year.. so hard to choose.

but i pick Evans

Does the dude even know the meaning of passing? :eyebrow:

The best pure point is no doubt rubio. passing is his specialty, the kid can run a team.

Ty Lawson coming out the gate is already an nba pg, and if your talking about the future, he'll be the one with the most upside. Because he is learning from chauncey. He already is the best pg out of the bunch, because of his ability to distribute the ball with less chance of turning it over. He is a combination of tony parker and deron williams, fast, (if not the fastest), and has a stong built to finish at the rim. People r saying jenning's but he has yet to play against real competition. Lawson has won at the college level, and was a major contributor. which makes him the closest to succed in my opinion

I think players who don't know what passing is don't have 14 assist games (albeit it was Summer League). He gets the ball to people in position to score, he's a true PG.

okay so the past year BJ was in europe trying to hone his skills

He played 27 games in the italian league averaging 17 minutes per game. In those 17 minutes he averaged an underwhelming 2.3 assists. Fine you say oh its only 17 minutes, double it, he's at 34 minutes and still under 5 assists.

his assist to turn over ratio??? 1.53 a/to

draft express also has a stat for assists to field goal attempts. This is perfect for proving the point that BJ is a shoot first pg. 0.23 1 out of 5 times that he has the ball in his hands he gets an assist. I understand that some of that lies on his teammates but this is your pg.

1 saying jennigns has not played against any competition is PLAIN STUPID italian league and eurloeauge is LOTS of time more competitive than NCAA

2 jennings had fe assists in europe true but maybe it has something to do that in europe the way of awarding assist is more complicated and harder to get that in usa basically each assist in europe means 1,75 nba assists, go check calderons or parkers assist numbers in eruope.

3 i hate jennings and think he will bust because he is a nutcase and a egomaniac BUT those afirmations were simply stupid

okay first off, i never said he didnt play against competition nor did i imply anything like that.

I admit, i forgot that euroleague ball is alot stricter on assists but really the only thing i was arguing is that jennings is not a TRUE point guard. he's talented but he's not pass first point

Do you even know how many mpg he played? the answer is really not enough to say he has played in real competition and secound, the way they count assist would be the same as they would in college, and the nba. third, the college game is just as competetive as euro, its just the rules are a little different. Not saying that euro isn't comp, Im just saying if your not on the floor long enough, how do u compete against the competition. which means he never played against competition.

jennings is a pass first point guard. he looks to score only when opportunity presents itself. i've watched him during every game in the summer league and anyone who says different obviously didn't watch the summer league games...

anyways, i'm gonna have to go with jennings or flynn.

I can't put Rubio down until he comes over. Flynn should have a huge season for the Wolves, if Rubio doesn't come over, because there will be nobody to share minutes with. I could easily see a 13/7 year, with a lot of turnovers.
For that same reason, Evans should have a big year in Sac. Beno is not that great, and Evans can spell time for Martin too, so he should get around 30 mpg.

arkanian215
08-01-2009, 02:11 PM
imo i agree with him. it's really between him and rubio. he might not be able to dance and cares more about showboating than doing the right thing but he will learn that making the right pass over the flashy one will earn him more money in the end.

arkanian215
08-01-2009, 02:12 PM
that's actually misleading. while you're only looking at stats, jennings played sg for his team. he was forced into that role and forced on the bench at other times.

yeah, but we will not be reading that during the season, when he is playing 10 mpg. The others listed will have big roles right away. Being brought in as a PG on a team with Chris Paul doesn't exactly scream minutes.

Tyreke Evans is going to have a really good season with all the playing time the kid is going to get. Stephen Curry as well with that run and gun system he's going to be playing in under Don Nelson, but if I have to chose I'll pick Evans with Curry in a close second.

Ricky Rubio=Jason Kidd

Tyreke Evans=not a true point guard. very very very poor mans lebron james. very versatile but will never be a true point guard. good player tho

Jonny Flynn= Allen Iverson skill set

Stephen Curry=Will have a Mike Bibby type career. Good player, borderline all star, but not super star

Brandon Jennings=Stephon Marbury in his prime

Jeff Teague=skinnier version of baron davis

Jrue Holliday=his freshman year of college didint show me anything and alot of time he looked like the worst player on the court. doesnt shoot the ball well. i dont know why people are so high on him. i hear that it was just UCLA's system that didnt allow him to play to his full potential, but honestly, watching him play, he looked like a 2nd rounder at best

Ty Lawson-huge question mark. Either the next Jameer Nelson, or just a career back up

Nick Calathes-probably most underrated point guard in the draft. I think he can be just as good as Stephen Curry

my pick...

Ricky Rubio

and its not even close.

Rubio has made a very stupid step to wait for two years.

if he came now he woudl start and flynn would go down the toilet but since he wont be in minnie FLynn will win the position and after two years of shining rubio will have to sit on the bench and go trey to convince an american fan that rubio is better that a two year veteran averaging 20 ppg rubuos career will be the one going down the toilet

Someone should Kill Dan Fegan.

I think almost all of these guys are overrated right now. The way people talk you'd think it's the best point guard class ever. I say 3/4ths of them will disappoint. Curry is NOT a point guard-is is the second coming of Tony Delk-or any other undersized two guard with a pretty shot. I may have fallen for the hype, but I do believe that Ricky Rubio is the real deal with amazing court vision and leadership skills. Still, I do not expect him to even be in the NBA this year so let's cross him off. I like Flynn, and Evans (though in Evans case, again, I do not really think he's a 1). My pick for the best point guard for the upcoming season, hands down, by a lot: Brandon Jennings. It will be fun to see this unfold; I only wish "my" team-The Knicks, had picked him instead of Jordan Hill.

I personally don't think any of them are going to be big time stars. A lot of them will turn out to be very solid PGs, but there are no CPs, Derons, Rondos or Roses in this draft...IMO.

You two have no idea about Rubio. This isn't a choice he's making not to come over he actually CAN'T come over. Him falling from #3 to #5 means millions of dollars he doesn't have in his pocket. Millions of dollars which could have been spent paying for his buyout.

He literally CAN'T come over, it's not his choice.

I hope you're more educated about issues when you punch your vote for the next president.....

i think it's closer to 600k. but yeah he would've had an easier time paying for the buyout. yeah psd should educate themselves. there's false assumptions on rubio.

if you had no money and had to pay for a buyout that's great than your salary for the next two years (and you don't get paid in a lump sum) and didnt get enough sponsorship money, what would you do? no one is gonna lend you 6 million dollars. and it's financially dumb to borrow that much cuz paying it back will be a close to a million in interest by the time you're done paying it.
