Why did the Spurs not keep Luis Scola?

June 26, 2002: Drafted by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2nd round (56th pick) of the 2002 NBA Draft.

July 12, 2007: Traded by the San Antonio Spurs with Jackie Butler to the Houston Rockets for Vassilis Spanoulis and a 2009 2nd round draft pick (Nando DeColo).

He didn't want to play for the Spurs, they already had Duncan at the time and he didn't feel he was a great fit. There was also the fact that they didn't want to pay part of his buyout as well.

Having Duncan didnt play a role, its like saying the Rockets had Yao. He wouldve been fine with playing in San Antone, had they not held him hostage.

Bingo

Scola said that he would have loved to play with the Spurs after he got traded....but it sucks that we were to cheap. Scola would have been great with us.

Why didn't the Hornets keep Kobe? Why didn't the Mavs keep Devin Harris? They made a bad judgement call, happens all the time.

Kobe had Wests word in his power and landed the financially crippling franchise a bargain of a center for a teenager thats a good deal, Devin was traded for a future HOF, Scola was traded for a bag of nuts.

There are different degrees of bad moves. This is a justifiable thread based on the extreme lack of foresight.

They tried to justify it by saying he wouldnt compliment Duncan and because they liked Oberto, but cmon now. Oberto was never in Scola's league and they offered the same contract to Bonner.

Pop knew better, he wanted Scola, too bad its not his money.

They supposedly didn't think he'd fit their team concept. But after seeing him play with the Rockets he would have been the perfect fit next to Tim Duncan.

I didn't realize he got drafted so long ago either. Thought he was drafted 2 years ago.

League should remove the limit of 500000 follars to pay buy outs for foreigners.

Lous Scola is not a person that the San Antonio Spurs thought he was going to be because of something they thought. That is the bottom line seriously seriously.

I dont get why people are saying the Spurs didnt think Scola would be all that, or they didnt want him because he is a PF, etc.

The Spurs wanted him, they just didnt want to pay the buyout. Spurs have always been tight with their money except this year, and it bit them in the ***.

2001 : Why did Kwama Brown -> Wizards; over Pau Gasol -> Grizzles
2002 : Why did Drew Gooden - > Grizzles; over Amare Stoudemire -> Suns
2003 : Why did Darko Milicic -> Pistons; over Melo -> Nuggets, Wade -> Heat, Bosh -> Raptors
2004 : Why did Josh Childress - > Hawks; over Andre Iguodala -> 76'ers
2005 : Why did Marvin Williams -> Hawks; over Deron Williams -> Jazz, CP3 -> Hornets
2006 : Why did Adam Morrison -> Bobcats; over Brandon Roy -> Blazers
2007 : Why did Gregory Oden -> Blazers; over Kevin Durant -> Sonics/Thunder
2008 : Why did Danilo Gallinari -> Knicks; over Brook Lopez -> Nets

"Why did" = epic fail...

Because he demanded a trade and refused to play for them.

What are you talking about? Luis Scola was our most consistent player last year, he won the Rockets alot of games because of his hustle and great play.

One of the few mistakes our front office has made. Scola is a winner. I wish guys like Boozer played with the same kind of heart.
