Rasho's deal is done
Rasho Nesterovic is coming back to his adopted hometown.

The veteran centre, who spent two seasons with the Raptors before being traded to Indiana a year ago, has agreed in principle to a one-year deal worth about $1.9 million (all figures US), the so-called biannual exception to the NBA’s salary cap.

The move comes as little surprise since president and general manager Bryan Colangelo has long held that the 33-year-old 7-footer is exactly the kind of solid veteran the team covets in a second unit role.

The deal also works financially for the Raptors, who retain any financial flexibility they will have at the end of next season.

Nesterovic, who maintained a home in Toronto despite playing in Indiana last year, averaged 6.8 points and 3.4 rebounds a game with the Pacers, starting 19 of the 70 games he appeared in last season.

Coveted by a handful of European teams, Nesterovic made it no secret he wanted to return to the Raptors. He said in an interview a couple of weeks ago that he never wanted to leave but that he understood the business aspects of the NBA that necessitated his inclusion in the trade for Jermaine O’Neal.

His role in Toronto is clear: He will be the backup centre behind Andrea Bargnani and now with he, Bargnani, Chris Bosh, Reggie Evans and Patrick O’Bryant, the Raptors are pretty well set in the front court.

Colangelo has one roster spot left to fill and negotiations continue with former Raptor Carlos Delfino.

He is no All-Star Center, but he can help add size to the Toronto Raptors which is something that they really needed to add. Besides that, Rasho really enjoyed playing for the Raptors. Out of the big bodies that were available to sign, he surely is a great pick for the Toronto Raptors. Not to mention that his style of play fits in well with the way that the team plays.

still questioning the raps rebounding this year... its been the same story with colangelo teams... hes a great gm but his teams have to shoot 50% on the season to win games. evans will help a bit... we might see him take on starter minutes as the season goes on and the raps brass realizes that the rebounding is an issue.

Soft?!? lol j/k

Lol... im a Raptors fan and its definitly a good pick up for us. Its nice to start seeing guys that actually WANT to play in Canada(Turk,JJ,Rasho). I think that BC had a plan when he came to Toronto and he knew he could attract Euros here because it is so mulicultural. Now we just need Nash, Dirk, Ginobili, Ji and Yao, and we'll take Kamen since his Grandparents are from Germany.
Does Kobe have Italian citizenship? I'd take'em.

His style of play as he does his role, doesn't try doing anything more. He will go out there to grab rebounds, matchup as best as he can against the opposing Center. He fits what the Raptors need in that regard. The Raptors didn't need anyone doing anything more than what he does since they already have their frontcourt set with Chris Bosh and Andre Bargnani.

Just a minor signing. He'll be a solid back-up, like he has been throughout his NBA career.
