Great pick-up IMO

Hoping to add a shot-blocker to their bench, the San Antonio Spurs have agreed to a one-year deal for the veterans’ minimum with center Theo Ratliff(notes), a league executive told Yahoo! Sports Thursday.

After adding Richard Jefferson(notes), Antonio McDyess(notes) and DeJuan Blair(notes) this summer, Ratliff appears to be the final piece of a revamped Spurs roster.

Ratliff, 36, played 46 games for Philadelphia a season ago. He’s averaged 7.5 points and 2.5 blocks a game for his career.

The Spurs have had quite a summer. Now if they can avoid the training room, they may be holding up that 5th banner in June

Spurs Need some "young" wing scorers

You guys cannot be serious. This guy can't stay on the court anymore. He has major back issues. I thought he retired from his problems. This guy has moved from team to team over the last few years and I bet almost no one could name all the teams he has been on lately because he has no impact.

non impact move at all.

I like Ratliff, got a chance to meet him a few years ago in Atl...nice guy. He stays in great shape.

George Hill, Malik Hairston (soon to be Finley's replacement). Tony Parker and Richard Jefferson are only 29.

Think its solid, but Im guessing maybe the Spurs are going to trade Bonner or something. If not, this is just an insurance policy type signing since we have Duncan/Dice/Blair/Bonner/Haislip/Mahinmi already.

Haislip won't make the team. He was given a chance too like Marcus Williams (SG), and McClinton (PG) and won't.

They might want to start looking at some soon, but this season they're better off letting this line-up compete, in my opinion.

It could easily have no impact, or Theo could be a great defensive center next to Tim Duncan in the front court. It's a zero risk high, reward signing.

Im pretty sure Haislip is making the team. Guarenteed contract, and didnt participate in the summer league. Whether not he plays much, or at all....Im still sure he is making the team.

The Spurs are pretty old, but hell damn, they can still play.

Ratliff addition was great. Now with a great backup big man and a new wingman in Jefferson, they'll be dominant.

We're not as old as last year...we have some fresh legs now. Boston is a helluva lot older than us.

It's a solid signing...Ratliff will be a good insurance.

the spurs are so old

Spurs current roster average age with 36 years old Ratliff, 36 years old Finley and 35 years old Dice is only 28 years old.

The Celtics currently are a 28 years old team.

The present Orlando Magic average 27 years old.

The Spurs averaged in the low 30's the last few years. We've gotten so young that even adding Dice and Ratliff only makes us 28.

Not really.

Only 28. That's with Ratliff and Dice.

The Magic are 27.

Good pick-up for the Vet miniumum. He'll play very little but will be a good 8-10 mins a game guy to defend the rim and get rebounds.I think we'll prob trade the red rocket for cap relief or cash. All I've got to say is the Lakers had better be ready to play a much better western conference with the Spurs being a damn tough match up for them.Watch out K O B E, Manu is comin' for ya.
