View Full Version : Who is your teams best overall defender??

Frank Costanza

Defence is tough in this league one that many consider an offensive league.

Who on your team would you say is the best overall defender and how would you rank them against the best defenders in the league.

DWIGHT HOWARD - can guard any center in the NBA while still guarding the basket from layups and every once in a while short-midrange jumpers, can guard both players in a pick-and-roll situation, best rebounder and shot blocker in the league

Defensive Player of the Year baby, ready to repeat next year!

Actually here in Canada the word is DEFENCE. I can't speak about any Americans who spell it with a "C" but Canadians (Like Frank who started the thread) is spelling it right. That is originally how the British would spell the word "Defence". In the end, it was the US who decided to change the spelling.

All 3 are very very good help defenders, 1 2 and 3 respectivly but Kobe is the best IMO. He literally sacrifices his individual defense (because he's so good at lock-down man D) everytime to roam around and help the rest of his team every posession. (and then gets criticized for doing so...)

And then you follow it up with more idiocracy? Look Lebron and Paul aren't controversial, there just not top flight defenders like you claimed. And Dwight? Yah he was the DPOY last year, but you need to look at his overall defense, and overall he's just not THAT good of a defender. I will start out by saying this I am a habitual kobe hater so i said it u can't call me on it on nothing.

So with that done i would have to say that he is a good defensive player but the last couple of year has not deserved 1st team honors. Kobe is getting these honors on his rep... what he did other years the fact is he does not guard the best player on the team n e more and to tell the truth lakers really play zone A LOT so no really man to man and when there was ariza guarded the number one person off the top of my head was a game against the 76sixer where AI hit a game winning 3 over ariza not bryant b/c braynt does not guar top ppl n e more because he does not want to get tired.

Wade also became the only player in the league to amass at least 100 blocks and 100 steals in a season."

LeBron.
Second best defender in the league (according to the voting for DPOY).
Best defender at his position, and best help defender in the league. Can also guard 1-4, (although may struggle slightly against bigger framed 4's)

Shane Battier, Ron Artest, and James Posey have something to say about that.

that bolded line is written poorly. It makes it sound like no player has ever done that before and many have, mind you Wade was probably the only one to do it last year. Lebron and Josh Smith just came up short.

Tayshaun Prince is the best defender on the Pistons...maybe one the best "LeBron/Kobe defenders" in the league along with Battier....
