I hate it for the Brew Crew. Why not get a pitcher in this deal also?

As a Brewers fan I am not thrilled with this deal, but I'll take it. Gillespie was considered one of the better prospects throughout the Brewers system, he's struggled a bit this year but I would say it's still realistic he could make a quality big leaguer someday, I cringed a bit when I saw his name included. Mercedes isn't bad, has had some pretty poor numbers coming up to this year and seemed to have turned a bit of a corner since being converted to a RP, may as well sell him while his value is high.

I'm personally not a fan of Lopez but he fills a gap at least. Coming into the season his defense has been pretty poor, but so far this season it hasn't been terrible. Offensively he's doing solid this year, historically (minus one season) the numbers have been pretty meh. I do think the Brewers paid a bit much for what I'd call an average 2B, perhaps very slightly above average, but at the very worst it at least helps this season, hopefully pitching is soon to follow. As for the DBacks I applaud them for selling Lopez high they actually got a good return for him.

Dude gellispe is 25 and is injury prone. I really like it cause now this should mean the end of bill hall :)

It seems like a pretty decent move to fill a gap. The Brewers need alot more than Lopez to make a serious push though.

Wonder why they didn't just go ahead and grab Doug Davis too?

It's a decent pickup though. He's an upgrade over Counsell.

I think the Brewers got the best of the deal

Brewers don't give up anything in Gillespie, but Mercedes might end up being a decent relievers. Average RP and LF are a dime a dozen, nothing lost here.

Roque Mercedes is a bad *** name. That would be a great jersey.

You better hope the Brewers turn it on and make a run. If the team is not doing well, Lopez totally let's it get into his head and then his play suffers. Once he feels like his play is off, he will shut it down on you real quick. That's why the Cardinals got rid of him. Then the Nationals. Now the D-backs. He's not a bad guy, but extremely tempermental to the point of hurting the team.

or maybe the rumor about the brewers trading hardy in a Halladay deal has some truth to it

you think the brewers got lopez to play ss. That is def. not true b/c the brewers have escobar

You heard it here first. If the Brewers do somehow get Roy Halladay in a trade, then I will literally **** my pants, tape it and put it on youtube for all to c, thats how excited I will b.

more like an insuranc eoption if escobar isn't quite ready. trading for halladay means they feel they cna contend now, so it would be foolish to expect escobar to step up without some sort of back up plan in case he doesn't adjust immediately. Lopez is definetly not long term.

Don't know why you guys think this is some precursor to some Hardy/Halladay deal. The Jays wouldn't want Hardy, they'd want Escobar.
