What if the NBA did not have a Salary Cap...

- How do you think things would work out?
- Would some teams have ridiculously stacked lineups?
- Would big name players be signed for 10+ year contracts?
- Would Lebron and other huge icons be paid over 100 mil for a contract?
- Like the MLB, would teams be amazingly loaded like the Yankees or Red Sox?
- Would there be a lot less competition around the league? (The Playoffs would probably be one sided)

Im pretty sure a lot of these things would come true, and the LEAGUE would become so boring. David Stern would either be jerking off too the increased sales or slapping himself for decline in fans?

Just Imagine...
Your thoughts?

big market teams would have an unfair advantage because they have more income, hence more money to spend. example: new york yankees. does not always turn into winning but its unfair to small clubs that cannot afford to throw money around like pacman jones and not worry about anything.

If the cap disappeared there wouldn't be a ''what if'' thread like this

if there was no cap. LA Lakers NOT CLIPPERS and NY would by far the most stacked teams in the NBA.

If there is no cap, LA, NY and Portland (Because thier owner is Paul Allen) will dominate the league...

then where is Lebron? ROFL

He's on a team with Kobe, Daron Williams, Tim Duncan, and Pao Gasol (as backup Center while Yao is recovering).

if the cap wasnt there, this sport wouldn't be fun to watch any more. it would be just like baseball.

since someone mentioned Manchester Utd im going to bring some funny comparison about nba and soccer.

since 1990 until now in nba there is a salary cap and in soccer there is not.

teams that have won a Ring Lakers 4, Spurs, 4, BUlls 6, Pistons 2, Heat 1 ,Celtics 1 thats just 6 teams.

Teams that have won Champions League, Barcelona 3, Real Madrid 3, Milan 3, Manchester 2, Bayern 1, Borussia 1, Juventus1, ajax 1, Porto 1 , Liverpool 1, Red Star 1 , marseille 1 thats 12 teams.

so does the salary cap REALLY Help?

there are millonaires in every us city big or small.

and they dont like to pay the oluxury tax do yu really think they woudl spend much more in the teams?

do you think PLAYERS would accept being on superosters and make just 6 to 10 ppg?

i honestly dont think a Paul, Kobe, OLebron, Duncan, Howard line up would really ever happen? do they all take 6 shots per game?

nahhhhh

market would regulate itself....

its funny how a country that is all about capitalism and the eeonomy autoregulation has such COMMUNIST rules in sports.

The difference is, there have never been more than 30 teams in the NBA, how many teams have the chance to qualify for the UEFA Champions League?

Also, don't forget that NBA teams, during the season, play only NBA games. Manchester United (for example), play Premiership games, UEFA games and FA Cup games. Teams pick what tourny they want to focus more on quite often.

The one advantage that a no-salary cap league would provide (IMO), is that it may open the door for some serious competition between American and European clubs, which I would love.

It would be friggin great because the Knicks would be like the Yankees of the NBA and teams that are successful now like San Antonio would be bottom feeders. And it really is communist rules the team with the most money and best city like the Knicks should be able to use their resources available to them to yield the best possible team. That would be like telling a rich person they could only buy a middle class home because everyone has to be equal it's not fair and not for what this country stands for.

id rather not imagine it. id think in 3 years or so, Id never watch another NBA game

there would be much more player mobility

some of the players we think stars would go to good teams with budget and then not really cut it and have to go back to smaller teams.

some players not so known now would remain in bad teams have much beter numbers and become stars and then be contracted by good teams etc etc like it hapens in soccer.

aslo not always the teams with most budget win.

in soccers every year there is a surprise low budget team that wins some nationa league for example this year wolfsburg won german liga.

I agree 100%, every player would go to the lakers or knick or wherever, other teams would go extinct, i mean there is already a existing problem of this, players dont want to play in utah, milwaukee, or places that seem "un cool" because thats what the NBA has turned into, no more pride

You've seen the way that the New York Yankees operate in the MLB. The Knicks would try to sign every big name player available in 2010.

The Knick's Line-Up Without A Salary Cap:

PG - Steve Nash
SG - Dwayne Wade
SF - LeBron James
PF - Chris Bosh
C - Marcus Camby
