View Full Version : How good would have the Clippers been

How good would they have been if they kept the 2000-2002 core intact.

That includes Maggette, Miles, Odom, Brand, Olowokandi (when he was actually decent 12 and 9), Keyon Dooling and Q-Rich.

PG Jeff McInnis (he was averaging 10-15 at that point)
SG Corey Maggette
SF Lamar Odom
PF Elton Brand
C Michael Olowokandi
Backup PG Keyon Dooling
Backup SG Quentin Richardson
Backup SF Darius Miles

I think this team could have contended if the Clippers allowed them to grow together for 3 or 4 years. Instead they traded Miles for Andre Miller only to lose Miller a year later, let Odom, Olowokandi and McInnis walk in free agency. And by 2004 Dooling and Richardson were traded as well and they basically only had Maggette and Brand.

Separately - these guys did nothing. Together? I think they could have been great.

Playoffs for a couple years. Not very far in them though. A lot of 1st or 2nd round exits.

the classic what if thread, i think they couldve gotten to the playoffs but a championship i dont think so because they dont have a dominant scorer but a lot of role players

Kandi man was never good, Jeff was a stopgap player, Odom was never going to thrive with EB and Maggette playing both of his positions better than him. We made some mistakes, but letting those 2 go was the right thing to do. We shouldve drafted Emeka that one year though.

I dont believe they would have contended with this group but if they could have kept the core (Odom, Brand, Maggette) and added from there...maybe. The problem is when Odom left Brand and Corey wanted to go to and begged Sterling to not match the offer (Jazz and Heat) but they did and the rest is Clipper history...

They still wouldn't have been a great team. Simply put with the West rosters, this team would be a 10-12 seed.

That team would have been lucky to grab a 7 or 8 seed.
Doesn't impress me at all.

Unless he was dealt to another team during the season, I know the Suns signed Richardson in 2k4 as a FA. We didn't trade for him.

they would have done exactly what they did when they were together, and that was nothing. as long as dunleavy is still the coach, they wont win.

Well seeing that the year Emeka Okafor was drafted he was drafted 2nd behind Dwight Howard, I dont see how drafting Emeka was even an option.

That team was weak. Alot of nice looking players but they were **** together.

They should have just let Brand and Maggette walk then as well and completely rebuild.

The Clippers never have had any direction. All just a bunch of jumbling crap.

They couldn't decide in 03-04 whether to rebuild or go for it and then they stuck themselves in the middle.

Even last year, they signed Baron Davis to a ridiculous contract and traded for Camby and Randolph for no reason.

Still not much. Especially in the West.
