I've always wondered; if the NBA had a 1 on 1 tourney who would come out as the victor?

1. Kobe.
2. Lebron
3. Wade.
4. Carmelo Anthony
5. Chris Paul.
6. Dwight Howard
7. Paul Pierce
8. Brandon Roy
9. Manu Ginoboli
10. Kevin Durrant
Other... Whose got you're vote.

But, I don't think anyone is stopping LeBron one-on-one.

But seriously, either Melo or Kobe.

I'd have to agree there, and probably give Kobe the nod.

(But for Lebron's games, it depends if there were NBA refs present. If so, Lebron wins on 15 consecutive free throws)

Lebron would run away with this. Hes too big and strong for any guard to beat him and too quick for any post player.

No one in the NBA is quick enough to keep up with wade on a 1 on 1. Not to mention his jump shot is wet.

I say its between kobe and wade, and ill give the edge to wade

BkOriginalOne

I was thinking that, then I was thinking it might be better if they were seeded. (when healthy of course)

East 1. Lebron 2. Wade 3. Howard 4. Bosh 5. Paul Pierce 6. Joe Johnson 7. Hedo 8. Iggy
West 1. Kobe 2. Carmelo 3. Chris Paul 4. Dirk 5. Amare 6. Brandon Roy 7. Durrant 8. Manu

I was just telling a friend yesterday that I think they should add some 1 on 1 games to all star weekend. People have gotten a little tired of seeing the same events (e.g. why the hell do we want to see WNBA players at our all star weekend?) and I think this could be really exciting and fun to watch. Players would never go for it because their egos are too big, couldn't take the risk of losing the 1 on 1.

LeBron
Kobe
Wade
Those would be the favorites. I also think that Durant and Dirk could do some damage in a tourney like that because of their height and outside shooting.

If we're talking about half-court 1 on 1 I would have to go with a athletic big man (Durant, Lewis, Amare, etc.) That's great if Kobe or CP3 is the better shooter but he isn't going to make 100% eventually he'll miss and eventually the big man will come up with the rebounds and just outmuscle the smaller guys. Full-court would be an entirely different story though.

My choices would be based on the type of match ups. There isn't really a best 1 on 1 player in the NBA because it all depends on whose playing against who. Kobe Bryant could be facing Dwight Howard, Kobe would speed by Dwight and Dwight would just post up. It would always be a mismatch.

Also, beating a different player one on one doesn't necessarily mean that the winner happens to be the better player. One thing does not correlate with the other.

LeBron and Kobe win most often in 1 on 1 matchups. LeBron edges out Kobe even without a significant outside shot because he is basically a bigger, stronger and now possibly quicker version of Kobe Bryant. If LeBron had any semblance of a consistent outside shot, he would be unstoppable.

The problem with your logic is that in reality (the real world), Lebron never posts up and is an awful post player (terrible footwork and not much post skills). Not to mention he has bad man on man defensive skills. Sure, he is a good help defender, but there is no help defense in a 1 on 1 game...

I think FG%'s are very important in making a decision here. I have a real hard time picking someone shooting 45% from the field as the most likely to win. The advantage would seem to go to big men then, but you have to remember that the ball starts away from the basket. Big men would be out of their element that far away.

That's why I chose LeBron. First, it can be narrowed down to about 6-8 just from what we've seen in games. After that, you look at who can consistently get to the basket or shoot a high % from the field. Typically, players who score a lot away from the basket have lower FG%'s. LeBron, like Wade and a few others, can get to the basket (arguably better than anyone, but putting that aside for the moment . . .). BUT LeBron shoots a higher FG%, whether at the basket or away from it doesn't seem to be relevant in 1-on-1, than the Wades, Kobes, and Artests of the league. Couple that with his size advantage on most every other contender (or speed/quickness advantage on any larger opponent), and it's pretty damn hard to pass up LeBron in theory.

For all those choosing Wade, I really think he's too small to make it all the way through. Maybe, but I doubt it.

He doesn't have bad man defense, are you kidding? He came in second in voting for defensive player of the year. "Lucky" or "one dimensional" defenders don't earn a spot that high. Lebron is fast enough and big enough to shut anybody down.

I'm not saying he's a good post up player but against Kobe he can just back him down everytime since he's so strong. He doesn't have to post him up but I'm assuming using his strength advantage would be the logical thing to do.

i know we are talkin about current players...but i truely believe MJ would be the ONLY person in NBA history that could take any single player, from any single era, at any single moment, on any single court...1 on 1. He would just out 'mental' you.

Kobe is the best offensive and defensive player in the bunch.
Wade is closely behind. I mean CLOSELY.
Melo is a very explosive scorer and is extremely underrated.
Lebron needs a jumpshot and needs to be a lock down defender.
Artest is really good on both sides of the court.

"Lucky" or "one dimensional" defenders don't earn a spot that high.

Sure they do. The DPOY is a popularity contest for the rest of the votes other than #1. The DPOY voters usually get #1 right, then do not try hard at all. Lebron was far from being the DPOY this year. He was maybe in the top 25....Maybe. But Lebron is Lebron. He is the most advertised player, thus he will get the votes because of pressure from the NBA. It is a business. Heck, Lebron has been an atrociously horrid defender the past 5 years. Horrible. How the hell did he become a DPOY defender in 3 months? He didn't. ESPN and the NBA made it a storyline this year. They started showing Lebron's block highlights ad nauseam from the getgo. Like I said, it's a business.

Lebron is fast enough and big enough to shut anybody down.

He is, but he doesn't.

I'm not saying he's a good post up player but against Kobe he can just back him down everytime since he's so strong.

Not really. Kobe is a fantastic post defender. Heck, did you watch the NBA Finals? There were two to three key defensive plays in which Kobe was switched on to Howard and played terrific, physical post defense.

He doesn't have to post him up but I'm assuming using his strength advantage would be the logical thing to do.

Lebron is not always logical though. How many times do we see Lebron have a clear strength and height advantage and he goes for the perimeter jumper instead of posting up? Every. Single. Game.

lol That is just so wrong. Way too many wrong assumptions on your part. The runner up last year was Marcus Camby, and he won it the year before that. And the year he won, Bruce Bowen was the runner up. So no, they do pick the deserving candidates in order. Atleast the first two. So yes, Lebron is legitimately the second best defender in the league. Whether its glorified on ESPN or not.

Kobe is a good defender no doubt, but when someone of Lebron's strength is backing him down, he can't put up much resistance. Lebron would take him too deep in the post, heck, it's one on one, there's no 5 seconds back to the rim rule. He can back down all day.

If you're trying to say Lebron is illogical, well, he's the reigning MVP. If the legitimate best player in the league plays illogically, then everyone else must have even greater flaws.

its hard to say most if not all of these players cant be stopped one on one it takes team defense its really a toss up to me who ever get the ball first could win they wont have a second line of defense once you get past them i would find it very difficult for one player to to defend lebron and wade with their speed

I would say LeBron...he has the quickness and skills of the guard and physique of a big man. He would exploit each matchup one way or the other.

CP3 would post up Dwight Howard and give him the ol' baby hook 18 times for the win :/

Okay in reality if all these games are matched up correctly the person that starts out with the ball is going to win.
Split up by position (top 5): NOTE--All these players are healthy (as in if they had no injuries, they still have factors such as age, etc.) For those self explanatory, I have nothing to say. NOTE--SUBJECT TO CHANGE.
PG: 1.CP3
2. Derrick Rose
3. Rajon Rondo -- If there is a Ref who will call legitimate calls against Rondo, he's beatable.
4. Deron Williams
5. Allen Iverson
SG: 1.KB24 -- Simply the best.
2. D-Wade
3. T-Mac
4. Gilbert Arenas
5. Vince Carter -- A bit aged, but still half human, half amazing
SF: 1. Lechoke -- No questions asked
2. Melo -- Lacks strength compared to Lebron
3. Hedo Turkoglu
4. Paul Pierce
5. Not Sure
PF: 1. Dirk -- In a 1 on 1, the time he has to set up, his jumper is unblock-able, if you can find me a video in which Dirk's classic fadeaway jumper is clean blocked, I'll reconsider.
2. Duncan -- Despite his age, just like in Dirk's case, with the time to set up, his bank shot is undeniable.
3. KG
4. Amar'e
5. Bosh
C: 1. Shaq -- He can power anyone out of the key, including Dwight, he's pretty much going to score on every shot.
2. Dwight
3. Yao Ming -- His height is the key to success.
4. Al Jefferson -- Young and upcoming.
5. Not Sure

I am for it. I remember there was a discussion about Dream vs Shaq back in the 90's 1 on 1 but it never happened. I would like to see this at the all star game. Kobe vs Lebron.
