View Full Version : What city do you think most needs an NBA franchise?

Maybe I am just being biased but I think that the city of Pittsburgh would thrive in the NBA and it could maybe one day add to the "City Of Champions".:)

Vegas is definately next on the list, they already had an allstar game there just to test it out. Teams can get in just as much trouble in any city because they've got the money to afford the good stuff and hoes like money and the idea of hooking up with an athlete, Vegas wouldn't be as bad as atlantas night life.

Yet there's still a lot of Kings fans who travel to Oakland when the two teams play and vice versa. Also, for the people who say there should be a team in Alaska. There are only like 1 million people who live in the entire state. Not in one city, but the state. That would redefine the term small market.

Vegas and Seattle make the most sense, IMO. Seattle got screwed over and anyone who thinks otherwise has no clue what they're talking about. Though, admittedly, they need a new arena. But still, Bennet bought that team with the sole purpose of moving it to his hometown, OKC, and Stern let him.

As for Vegas, I think it's inevitable that they will eventually get a team. The market's just too big to go without at least one professional sports team.

After those 2, I honestly think the best choices are small markets that don't have a another professional team (MLS doesn't count). The Thunder did alright last year in attendance and they sucked. I'm sure some of that has to do with them being the only option for professional spors in the city and that there really isn't anything close. I think a similar market to OKC would make a lot of sense. Albuquerque/Santa Fe would, honestly, make a lot of sense. I believe Phoenix and Denver are the closest cities to Albuquerque/Santa Fe (I include them together because they're less than an hour apart from one another), and we're talking 3 or 4 hours.

In this economy, cities like Pittsburgh and St. Louis (Both who have teams in the other 3 major pro sports leagues) would have a hard time supporting a new team.

Las Vegas needs a team.. we get teased with olympic team practice games, pre-season games, an All star game, and crappy summer league and people go and watch. A team here would have one of the highest attendance rates in the NBA. Once we get an arena I don't think Stern will have a choice. The lists of excuses are getting thin its only a matter of time now. I am sick of watching the lakers beat down the kings in pre season year after year.

I think Seattle should be given a small market basketball team, like San Antonio or Oklahoma has. The city already has a stadium and a team name. Once the team starts playing again, Gary Payton will even have his number retired in Seattle. The team might even be desperate enough to find Shawn Kemp and retire his number.
