Camby appears to be on the trading block. Which NBA team would benefit the most from swinging a deal for him?

Clippers' Camby a hot commodity
By Chris Tomasson

Marcus Camby might not be getting any airtime from John Walsh, but he's still one of America's most wanted men.

The Los Angeles Clippers center recently met with Mike Dunleavy, the team's coach and general manager. He found out how much he's coveted around the NBA.

"A lot of teams have been calling. He was up front with me," said Camby, in Las Vegas to watch his team at the NBA Summer League. "A lot of teams are calling and asking for my services. ... A lot of contenders are looking for different pieces to add to their team, especially the way the economy is going and with the salary cap."

In fact, shortly before Camby spoke, one team executive pointed to Camby and said, "That's the guy we'd like."

Camby, 35, would be an ideal acquisition since he has one-year left on a contract with a salary-cap figure of $9.15 million, meaning he could help a team clear room for the coveted 2010 free-agent class. And, oh, did we mention that Camby, who averaged 10.3 points, 11.1 rebounds and 2.13 blocks, can still play a bit?

But Camby, with the Clippers having recently somehow been able to move Zach Randolph's huge contract to Memphis, doesn't believe he will be dealt.

"I actually talked to Mike a few days ago, and he asked me about free agents," Camby said. "It looks like I'll still be there. ... I don't want to put words in his mouth, but he made it seem like I was still going to be around."

Camby, who was devastated at being traded last summer from Denver to the Clippers, said he would have no problem remaining in Los Angeles. But, if a trade to a contender were to surface, he wouldn't be too torn up about it.

"I definitely wouldn't mind," said Camby, who made it to the NBA Finals with New York in 1999 but hasn't been on the winning end in a playoff series since 2000. "But I also feel comfortable with the situation (in Los Angeles). Last year, we were hit by the injury bug and lost a lot of key players. But with Blake (Griffin, the NBA's top draft pick) coming in and Baron (Davis) coming back healthy and the talent we have, we should definitely be a whole lot better than we were last year."

One thing is for sure. If the Clippers do look to trade to deal Camby, there will be no shortage of suitors.

Though I would like for phoenix to get him but I don't know for what maybe pavlovich and tucker for camby it saves them money and phoenix would benefit from that. Have a lineup of

Nash/dragic
J-rich/barbosa
Hill/dudley/clark
Amare/frye/amundson
Camby/ lopez

I think it would put us back on top having all these teams battle for the 1 seed lakers, spurs, phoenix, dallas,

I'd give Nick Young for free. :s

But Young for Camby sounds alright for me. You would have to take Mike James though, since contracts will match alil closer. James has an expiring contract though.

Marcus Camby to the Detroit Pistons for Richard Hamilton. Both problems solved. Detroit gets their big man for next season PLUS cap space to improve their young/new nucleus for the 2010 free agency. Los Angeles gets an upgrade at small forward and instantly improves their starting lineup.

Detroit:
C- Camby
PF- Prince/Villenueva
SF- Prince/Villenueva
SG- Gordon
PG- Stuckley

Clippers:
C- Kaman
PF- Griffin
SF- Hamilton
SG- Gordon
PG- Davis

Thats a solid lineup for both teams right there.

well, yea the hornets have the worst bench in the NBA...and they were trying to shop Tyson Chandler to free up some money. Camby would save them atleast 4 milllion, and Hornets wouldnt lose much production. Evevn if they keep Tyson, they are desperate for a backup PF/C...either or.

The Rockets desperately need his size. I think he would really complete the Mavs as well, especially if there's any truth to those Redd rumors.

C-Camby
PF-Dirk/Marion
SF-Howard/Marion
SG-Wright/Terry
PG-Kidd/Barea

And he could play next to Yao, you know that problem the bigs have with finding him on pinch cuts, solved. Or the problem with defending the rim when Yaos rotating on PnR.

correct, but we do seem stacked at the PF, we'd have to ship out carl or scola, and im not fond of that, rather just rent him for a year.

Lets put it this way.

The Pistons starting center as of now is Kwame Brown. They really don't have a backup. I can't think of anyone that needs a body in the middle than Detroit.

They have RIP or Prince to deal.

also im pretty sure it keeps them flexible for 2010 fa class right?

He would def. work in DC. Only 3 true bigs on the roster. Haywood, McGee, Blatche, and a small 4 in Jamison.
