Hey guys, Some of you may remember but I conducted a poll at the start of the season that had PSD users vote for the top 10 players at each position. I would like to start this up once more considering the NBA season is now over and we can get to this discussion since lots has changed since the start of last season. Please TRY AND VOTE FOR THE BEST PLAYER AND DON'T BE A HOMER. I will leave the poll open for one day and than we can carry on to the next best player at that position. I will add more players after each round...Enjoy.

REMEMBER this is based on who is the best player, not the player who has the potential to be the best.

I also removed Josh Smith from the thread, going back over his games started, he should be under the PF list. Thats where he will go..

PG Rankings DONT FORGET TO VOTE!!

1) Lebron James
2) Carmelo Anthony
3) Kevin Durant
4) Paul Pierce
5) Danny Granger
6) Andre Iguodala
7) Caron Butler
8) Hedo Turkoglu
9) Ron Artest
10) Stephen Jackson

Last Years SF rankings:

1) Lebron James
2) Paul Pierce
3) Carmelo Anthony
4) Caron Butler
5) Ron Artest
6) Shawn Marion
7) Josh Smith
8) Richard Jefferson
9) Lamar Odom
10) Tayshaun Prince

Dude he's been improving every year, and he's not on a very good team you could put almost any one of these guys on the pacers last year and they still wouldn't have made the playoffs. One player cant do it all it's a team sport. Look at Kobe after shaq left and before PG got there.

I am not really sold on Granger yet either but I thought these stats were supposed to be based on last year and if they are he deserves to be higher than that and Melo is the second best SF no matter which way you look at it. I also agree that Tayshaun should have made the list

Well in that case... by your logic, Caron Butler and Ron Artest, and even Melo aren't better defenders then KD and PP? LOL

I think PP plays decent defense, but if it were based solely on Defense I can see you putting Artest and Butler over him but not Melo

Wallace is closer to 3 assists and 8 rebounds, and shoots a much higher percentage from the field than Jackson...more blocks, more steals...turns the ball over half as much

I dont think Stephen Jackson is a better defender, Wallace actually plays on a good defensive team. If your gonna compare stats just go here. Statistically G-Force is above him.

Not to mention that Jackson's numbers are inflated because of the system he is in. The Bobcats had either the slowest or 2nd slowest pace in the league, while I'm sure the Warriors had one of the highest.

And just look at the field goal percentages. Jackson was at 41.4%, while Wallace was at 48%. Jackson also turned the ball over almost twice as much as Wallace did. So Wallace is a more efficient offensive player, a better defender, and a better rebounder (lead all SF's in rebounding) yet Jackson is better? This poll just shows how underrated Wallace is, and it's mostly because a lot of people don't see him play a lot.

Jackson may be the "best" defender on his team...but that team was last in opponents PPG (112) and Wallace was arguably the best defender (between him and Okafor) on one of the better defensive teams in the league (94.9 points allowed).

When you look at pace adjusted stats there is no inflation. But yes the Warriors were the fastest team in the league, while the Bobcats were in the 3rd tier for slowest teams. Its funny though I think both players would thrive if they were to switch philosophies. Is G-Force still a hyper athlete, even if he wasnt playing up and down would prolong his career, while Jack would be better suited playing a slow it down game.

Yea G-Force is underrated, just the other day LaSev said he wasnt a good defender. Thats pretty bad, even by his standards.

Thats a good thing, if he had those skills he may go away from what he does best. Skills are overrated, its IMPACT that matters.

Yep and I think Wallace has the bigger impact than Jackson.

Wallace's Net: +6.5 (+0.9 On -5.6 Off)
Jackson's Net: +1.0 (-3.3 On -4.3 Off)

But I think the biggest indicator of Wallace's importance to the Bobcats was after he broke his rib and collapsed a lung. He missed 7 games. The Bobcats record while he was out: 0-7.

Watching both Jackson and Wallace play, I'd have to say it is a coin toss. You can't go wrong. Both do different things for their respective teams. Jack is more of a Point Forward & can shoot well and Wallace a Slasher. But because of defensove reasons it is just in the numbers that Wallace brings more to the table defensively than Jackson. Thus, you can't go wrong with either one at the 10 spot.

They may have both been on bad teams, but Wallace's impact on his team was a good amount more. Also, if you put Wallace on a team that likes to run on the Warriors, he could score a lot more, but Larry Brown's style is the half court and the Bobcats had one of the 3 slowest paces in the league.

Also, I wouldn't call the Bobcats a bad team, after Larry Brown had rebuilt their roster mid season, they started playing plus .500 basketball.

Thats a shame Gerald Wallace is easily in the top 10 over Artest Turk and Jackson, he is so underrated its ridiculous.

DerekRE_3
07-14-2009, 06:44 PM
Artest got rated way too high I think.

Artest: 17.1 PPG 5.2 RPG 3.3 APG 1.5 SPG 0.3 BPG 40% FG 75% FT
Wallace: 16.6 PPG 7.8 RPG 2.7 APG 1.7 SPG 0.9 BPG 47% FG 80% FT

Artest shoots a much lower percentage from the field and is worse at the line, gets less rebounds, less block, and less steals. I think Artest's defense is getting really overrated. He's a lot bigger and slower than he used to be, so his perimeter defense has gotten worse. His post defense is still great though.

And going beyond just statistic...Artest stops the ball and can become a black hole on offense...hoisting up bad shot after bad shot.
