After this year Shaq and Big Z are FA and will likely not be reisgned. Then the Cavs have Mo Williams under contract for 9.3 mil and just resigned Varajao for 8.5 mil a year. They will also owe 9.3 million combined to West and Gibson.

What does all this mean? The Cavs have committed themselves to 27.1 mil in contracts on 3 PG's and Varajao. If you add Lebron's 20 mil a year salary to that number the Cavs would be at a cap number of 47.1 million. This leaves them only 3.5 million add a starting quality center, power forward, and shooting guard as well as filling out the bench. There is no way Lebron James would sign on to play the next 6 years with such little talent and no money or assets to get talent.

Basically, in signing Varajao today the Cavs have taken themselves out of the running for any decent FA aquasitions next summer and have doomed themselves to lose Lebron IMO...

that, and the fact that LeBron obviously is chasing his stardom and won't get enough of it staying in Cleveland... he's an insatiable publicity whore.

You make some great points. I really don't see why LeBron would want to stay with those guys. Even if Big Z and Shaq stay on, are they really that valuable? What roster do you want to play on?

PG Mo, Gibson
SG Delonte
SF LeBron
PF Varejao, Hickson
C Shaq, Big Z
No more cap space

PG Tony Douglas
SG Chandler
SF LeBron, Gallinari, Jeffries
PF Jordan Hill
C Lee, Curry
$5 million cap space with two expiring contracts totaling $18+ to trade to acquire more (Curry and Jeffries).

I think he will probably go to the Nets.

Harris
Lee
Lebron
FA
Lopez

^ That is a pretty sick line-up and they can possibly court another big name FA like Amare or Bosh. Not to mention that Lebron's boyfriend (Jay-Z) owns part of the Nets.

Before you post something you might want to get the facts right:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4315370

Varejao's deal is for $42.5 million over 6 years with the last year partially guaranteed. So thats almost $7.1 million a year not $8.5 million. He has the opportunity to max the deal to $50 million if he reaches incentives. Oh and the reason why we signed him long term is because he is our center for the future. It's no secret that Z and Shaq are old. Also, Delonte and Gibson will make $8.6 million combined not $9.3 million.

Well, the guy's right.

The Cavs don't have enough cap space to get another all star.

They have to resign Lebron first before they sign anyone else and that point, they'll run out of money.

Let's see what goes down.
