View Full Version : Dahntay Jones signs 4 year (11 million) deal with Pacers

Highlight

Free-agent guard Dahntay Jones has agreed to a four-year, $11 million contract with the Indiana Pacers.
Jones is seen as a value pick for the Pacers, even though he averaged just 5.4 points and 2.1 rebounds for the Nuggets last year. He's a defensive specialist, so it's not likely that he'll offer fantasy value in Indy. But he is a nice role player and should help the Pacers.

I know it's not big news, but just wanted to let all you know.

Solid signing for the Pacers. He'll help about any team, but I do believe he was over paid a little bit.

This is a terrible signing for a role player like this. You don't want to be giving role player 4 year deals when they may not even be in your team's top 8-10 players.

Length wise, it was pretty bad. Who knows if he can even stay in the Pacers' rotation in 4 years? Money wise, it's almost fair value. He may have gotten a bit too much but, either way, he'll bring an immediate impact with his defense to this average team.

im pretty sure we picked him up to be a defensive specialist on the wing. We have Rush, Granger and... thats pretty much it in terms of capable defenders.

I think this is a good move from an overall team outlook. Putting the right pieces around Granger and our young core to give them a better chance to succeed.

I also think Marquis Daniels wore out his welcome here. He was the last player that had anything to do with the "character issues" we had that was still playing for us. He was also waaay more expensive than Jones at over 6 mil. Finally he was injured quite a bit the past two years. We saved our MLE with this signing and are still under the cap by around 5.25 mil, maybe allowing us to re-sign JJ (Jarett Jack) to a long term contract. With the MLE we could pick up a servicable big man or SF and pretty much all of our positions will be solid.

PG: Jack/Ford/Deiner/AJ Price?....Tinsley :(
SG: Dunleavy(inj)/Rush/Jones
SF: Granger/FA?
PF: Murphy/Hansbrough/McBoberts
C: Hibbert/Foster

We still have some holes to fill, but the roster is shaping up.

 I'd be laying low if i were you. You do realise that the cavs just signed Varejao for 50million over 6 years. That may be the worst deals i have seen in a LONG time.

On another note i think this is a solid deal for the Pacers.

Wow! Pacers going to be scary next season.

Please tell me that was sarcasm lol. The Pacers are garbage. Ever since that brawl they've been more focussed on bringing in good people than good ball players. They can't even make the playoffs in the east lol. And instead of saving money so you could try to get a big name in these next couple years, they give all that money to a defensive specialist who wont even start? lol.... good luck Bird.

...All that money? 2.75 mil a year is "all that money"

How could we save money when we only had 8 people under contract until today? One of them being Tinsley... What kind or rotation could we have with 8 players? And keep knocking Bird but hes doing a lot of things right... we have, potentially, our starting SG,SF,PF and C of the future on this team now. Drafting Rush over Bayless seems like the right move, and Hibbert over (Robin) Lopez isnt looking too bad either. He managed to get our current starting PG for JO... and TJ could be an important trade piece to secure our future, especially with his deal expiring after next year (with a player option)... then we shed Murphy/Dunleavy/Foster and Tinsleys contracts in 2011, all of which can be used for that "big name" you were talking about... thats over 30 mil in cap space! :speechless: and we could just sign a guy like Murphy or Dunleavy to a long term contract for less money and save that way.

I don't know exactly what wrong everyone sees in Birds actions... hes not perfect (Shawne Williams is a great example of that) but no GM is. I think he has a plan and is sticking to it. In my book, that is commendable, and at this point probably the best thing to do.

You can keep him, I think he's pretty overrated. Personally I think he sucks big time, now if we can just get rid of Anthony Carter.

Not a bad idea. Sonny Weems may take over as our perimeter defender at the #2, but he is unproven. With our cap issues after signing Birdman, it will be tough. I think the Nuggets do need a SG who can defend and a big who can hit outside shots to compete for the Finals.

I was going to make the same joke.

Anyway good signing. He's real cheap and young, so 4 years isn't bad. And he'll definitely be in the rotation. He's a great defender and developing overall as a player.

Good signing for Indiana. I respect Dahntay, excellent defender as we all know he single handedly made CP3 in-affective in the first round. I'll miss his defense so hopefully our FO has bigger plans behind letting him go.

Only knock on DJ is his offense but, I'm pretty sure they don't need him to be Grangers wing man :laugh2:

We dont really need any more shooters we have plenty. We need D and that looks like what we are getting.
