GAME ONE
July 7, 7:08PM, TSN

Mark Rzepczynski, LHP (0-0, 0.00)........James Shields, RHP (6-6, 3.50)

Blue Jays: A fifth-round selection by the Jays in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft, Rzepczynski is set to make his big league debut for Toronto against the Rays. He will become the 12th different starter to be used by the Jays this season -- a group that includes six rookies and five who made their debuts this year. In 16 starts between Double-A New Hampshire and Triple-A Las Vegas, Rzepczynski has gone 9-5 with a 2.66 ERA, compiling 104 strikeouts against 40 walks over 88 innings.

Rays: Shields allowed five runs in Wednesday's loss to the Jays at Rogers Centre but pitched better than that number suggests. He gave up three runs through the first seven innings, and one was unearned as a result of a fielding error by first baseman Carlos Pena. Shields gave up back-to-back solo home runs in the eighth before being pulled with 7 1/3 innings under his belt. He allowed seven hits in the effort, striking out eight batters while walking only one. The three home runs he gave up tied a career high.

GAME TWO
July 8, 7:08PM, TSN

Brian Tallet, LHP (5-6, 4.38)........Scott Kazmir, RHP (4-5, 6.79)

Blue Jays: Tallet logged a decent six innings in a loss on the road to the Yankees on Friday. Making his 16th start since being moved out of the bullpen, Tallet allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and finished with three strikeouts and four walks. In the fifth inning, the lefty walked in a run with the bases loaded and later had a run score on a passed ball. In his career against Tampa Bay, Tallet has gone 2-0 with a 1.72 ERA in 13 relief appearances.

Rays: Kazmir took his fifth loss of the season Friday night when he allowed one earned run against the Rangers. The left-hander continues to fight against his pitch count as he reached 99 by the end of five innings against the Rangers. Kazmir's fastball velocity has been better since he returned from a stint on the disabled list, but he needs to spot his fastball with his slider and changeup in order to be successful. Kazmir is 3-4 with a 3.44 ERA in 11 career starts against the Blue Jays; he is 22-17 with a 3.59 ERA in 66 career starts at Tropicana Field.

GAME THREE
July 9, 12:08PM, Rogers Preview

Roy Halladay, RHP (10-2, 2.79)........David Price, LHP (2-3, 5.21)

Blue Jays: Halladay endured a rough outing his last time out, allowing five runs on nine hits in a no-decision at Yankee Stadium. Toronto's ace surrendered three home runs for the first time since last September and issued three walks for the first time since last April. Halladay finished with three strikeouts in seven innings. In two starts since returning from a stint on the disabled list, Halladay has gone 0-1 with a 4.85 ERA, allowing seven runs on 14 hits with an uncharacteristic five walks and four home runs surrendered over 13 innings.

Rays: Price followed his strongest outing of the season with his worst Saturday night in Arlington when the Rangers chased him after 1 1/3 innings. The rookie left-hander allowed just three hits, but among those hits were a three-run homer to Andruw Jones and a three-run double by Michael Young. Price walked five and struck out three en route to his third loss of the season. Price's fastball command dictates how he will fare and clearly he struggled locating the fastball Saturday night. During his last three starts, Price's fastball command has been off and on and his slider has lacked depth, which has made it easier for hitters to handle. Price will be making his first career start against the Blue Jays; he is 2-1 with a 3.38 ERA in five career appearances at Tropicana Field.

I like the pitching matchups. I smell a sweep witch will put us on a huge 21 game winning streak which will put us back atop the AL east which we will ride into the playoffs where we will go on a 12 game winning streak

....i can dream cant i?

Doc should atleast get the W this series. Tallet should win aswell I say we take 2/3 as I don't think Zep is ready.

Bob’s Take on game 1: Rzepczynski? Who? Shields has been good this year but the one time we faced him we beat him by hitting 3 home runs. His WHIP was only 1.09 and our batting average against him was .233. This game looks like a write-off.

Bob’s Take on game 2: Kazmir has been ugly this year, especially at home where his era is 9.40 and teams are batting .317 against him. I expect him to turn it around at some point but I think that even with Tallet pitching that we can pull this one out. Speaking of Tallet, after a great May, he cooled off in June. Hopefully he can turn it around in July and get his ERA down some more.

Bob's Take on Game 3: Doc. Nuff said.

came across this recent article about Rzep. This guy is apparently in love with him and think he could end up being a better pitcher than Webb

^^^There's also an article online that put's my friend's band on the same level as the Who, Led Zeppelin and the Doors. I'll believe both articles when they come true.

I'd love it if Rzep could be that good, but I'm not holding my breath, at least not until I see him make a few big league starts.

I have a feeling Rzep will baffle the Rays tonight since no one in the AL will have a book on this guy. I'd be happy with this line: 5 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K

I have a very bad feeling about Game 2 as struggling pitchers tend to dominate us in their attept to turn their season around. I expect a loss there.

Game 3 and Doc is hopefully a lock for a win.

My prediction is we take 2 of 3.

With the way Wells and Rios are wasting spots in the lineups, I don't think the Jays will win one. Kazmir will somehow rediscover himself against this sporadic Jays offense and beat Halladay 2-0

What is FIP by the way?

James Shields is definitely a very underrated pitcher. This is a gem and he went like 8 last time against the Jays too even though he lost and gave up 5 runs or something. He's a really good pitcher.

I was impressed but not surprised by Zep. I've always really liked that guy and his numbers have been nothing but great but he gets no love in spec rankings. I think I had him 4th last year and people said i was crazy lol.

I voted like 50 times just now. I thought there was a limit of 25 or sumthing... Clearly not

Just compared the stats too. Lind is the onyl one hitting for average and power

Tallet back to the pen as soon as Marcum is ready. Tallet had a few good starts when he switched from the pen. But he is doing nothing lately... and we just have too many lefties. The young guys have potential, Tallet has a great stache. The future is still bright.

why? Have all of you forgotten the pre-season expectations where a lot of us thought we would be the worst of the East? I enjoyed the early wins but I understood that it most likely wasn't going to last. I understand that we should sell high with some players. We didn't, we stuck with them and our team is failing because of it.

Oh I know we can't win them all and I didn't expect it either, it's just that I want Doc to get the win he's gave up 7 runs in his last 3 starts and has 1L and 2 no decisions I just really want him to get his 11th win so he can go ahead of Greinke. I just feel bad for him when he goes out their and pitches well give up like 1 or 2 runs and we can't even win him the game.

leadoff double against price and we dont score... man on 2nd ,1 out and we are not gonna score.

This is one case where i think a Doc trade might not be that bad (depending what we get) He pitches once every 5 days. The offense is everyday which is more important to me. we could have won the other 2 games already with a couple good bats and Doc can't win them all, if he doesn't get offense he can't win either no matter how good he is. Last year we had the best pitching in the majors and still finished in 4th, who many 1 or 2 run games did we lose? lots. If the right deal, which i think it will, pull the trigger.

go figure... 2nd and 3rd no out and they dont score. This offence is full of scrubs like Millar, Delucci, Bautista, Overbay, Mcdonald. How do you expect to win especially when the guys that are supposed to carry you are either **** or sitting on the bench
