Hey guys, Some of you may remember but I conducted a poll at the start of the season that had PSD users vote for the top 10 players at each position. I would like to start this up once more considering the NBA season is now over and we can get to this discussion since lots has changed since the start of last season. Please TRY AND VOTE FOR THE BEST PLAYER AND DON'T BE A HOMER. I will leave the poll open for one day and than we can carry on to the next best player at that position. I will add more players after each round...Enjoy.

REMEMBER this is based on who is the best player, not the player who has the potential to be the best.

PG Rankings DONT FORGET TO VOTE!!

1) Lebron James
2)
3)
4)
5)
6)
7)
8)

Last Years SF rankings:

1) Lebron James
2) Paul Pierce
3) Carmelo Anthony
4) Caron Butler
5) Ron Artest
6) Shawn Marion
7) Josh Smith
8) Richard Jefferson
9) Lamar Odom
10) Tayshaun Prince

I actually did go with Pierce, Melo is definitely 3rd in my eyes, no doubt. Nice to see Tayshaun Prince getting some love, one of the most under rated players in the game.

I picked Melo because of the fact that he actually made it past the 1st round this year. Hopefully he'll get used to that.

melo then granger then durant then maybe pierce. pierce was so overated last time. people voted him no.2? WTF? just because they won the championship that doest mean his that good he didnt even make the playoffs the previous seasons before last season. w/o kg and pierce he wont make the playoffs and this polls are individually so we should grade pierce individually not what he can do with 2 future HOF.

He was number 2 for the same reason Melo is now, and awesome playoff performance. The man went head to head with LeBron and got the best of him. He deserved it last year. Stats aren't everything, that's why when Melo was averaging 25+ he wasn't up there.

Please nobody vote for Pierce, the self proclaimed "best player in the NBA" ...

these polls are just a way to show love or hate towards players. te problem is a lot of people will agree with this guy and not vote for pierce simply because they dont like him. i dont like kobe but he is the best sg in the game. if pierce doesnt get #3 this is terrible. there should not be such a big voting difference between him and melo. pierce 2, melo 3.

Having difficulty understanding the concept of efficiency?

Efficiency means productivity without waste.

The chart shows the players who produce the most without waste.

Carmelo Anthony is #32 in the NBA in Efficiency, behind several other Small Forwards.

That means that this poll is a popularity contest, not an accurate reflection of who the best Small Forward is by legitimate numbers.

Players like Melo, who put up 30 one night and 10 the next, are both inefficient and inconsistent, thereby making them ESPN material, but not the best of anything.

David Lee led the league with 65 double-doubles last season, so thanks for making the point for me. Efficiency + Consistency > Feast + Famine.

Agreed, I don't mind seeing Carmelo win 2nd, but it should be A LOT closer. I took Durant. He shoots a better FG%, better FT%, and a better 3 point% than Melo.

That can be inconsistent. Look at Odom. He can go for 20-20 one night and 5-3 the next. After an entire season, it's 15-10.

No, he doesn't. LeBron's Efficiency Rating is 37.00. Melo's is under 20, or just over one-half as good as LeBron's. LeBron puts up those numbers consistently.
Melo is feast or famine. That is why his Efficiency Rating is half that of King James. That means Melo needs twice as many minutes to produce his numbers as James needs to produce his. That means Danny Granger is better. As are several other Small Forwards.

No one writing the paychecks would take Carmelo Anthony second.

1. LeBron
2. Artest
3. Pierce
4. Granger
5. Melo
6. Jefferson
7. Marion
8. Durant

Thats the list.

I think the #2 SF has to shoot better than 40% from the field (as Artest did last season). Durant beat Jefferson in every statistical category last year, all %'s, points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks. Marion averaged 12.9 ppg last year (half of Durants) on 19% 3 point%.

Bruno

This is what it looks like for me

1.James
2. Durant
3. Carmelo
4. Granger
5. Pierce
6. Caron
7. Artest

can't decide on 8-10, too equal.

I'm probably the only person on PSD who thinks that two years from now, we will be having a serious argument about who's the #1 SF in the NBA.

I am sure we can all agree on this:

Artest is the best defensive SF in the game.

Artest also can post up and hit 3 pointers. Avg 17 + ppg with steals and blocks.

Maybe I am just old school, but I think those things are much more important then just scoring like Durant or Melo.

What good is scoring 28 ppg if you give up that much at the other end??

'Melo!!! He probably would of been #2 last yr if he had Billups with him.

Gotta say, I think Battier is just as good a defender as Artest, also the smarter defender; that's why he was guarding Kobe for the vast majority of the series. G. Wallace, James, Ariza, and Igoudala all averaged more steals than Artest last year. Ron average 0.3 bpg last year. I know Ron is a MUCH better defender than his steals and blocks per game would suggest, but we aren't talking about the 2004 defensive player of the year any more, his game has changed.

With all that being said, as a Lakers fan, there is no one I would rather have guard King James than Artest.

That makes two of us. Durant will be on Lebron's level.

Yes, I said it. I think he will.

Durant is not nearly as good of a passer as Lebron nor is he anywhere near as strong as Lebron where he could impose his will on a game like Lebron.

LeBron is the better passer but Durant is easily the superior 3 point shooter, which makes attacking the paint easier for him, making size less of a necessity for him than it is LeBron. Druant has a different kinda of freakish athletic ability than LeBron, but its there.

Lebron is much better at passing, you're right. But, Durant is so much better of a shooter, that it can outweigh the difference in passing. Trust me, I'm not trying to start any arguments, but go watch a few games of Kevin Durant. The kid can impose his will on any game, at any time. Believe that.

You're basing your whole arguement off of statistics. There situations are completely different. Lee played with one of the laziest teams in the league and Melo played on a contending team. Just because David Lee has a higher efficiency doesn't make him better and it definitely doesn't make him 12th best in the league

There is more to Basketball then scoring.

Durant play OLE' defense.

The question is, who would you take TODAY?

And I would take almost any1 over Durant today and that includes Butler who plays decent defense.

People are really high on Melo after his playoff performance (which was very good). It was the same thing with Pierce the year before.

But I voted Pierce. I admit I haven't seen much of Durant though. It's hard to actually get a good look at him when he's playing on a team that never is on ESPN or NBATV or channels like those, so all I have to base my opinion for him is off his numbers which don't tell the whole story.

Hmmm...and Caron Butler is a shut-down defender is that right?
Butler averaged 0.3 more steals per game (that is a hell of a lot more huh?) and he averaged 0.4 blocks LESS per game...
Seems like it kind of evens out to me....

Lets just compare overall shall we....?

DURANT
PPG 25.3
RPG 6.5
APG 2.8
SPG 1.3
BPG 0.7
FG% 0.476
FT% 0.863
3P% 0.422
MPG 39.0

BUTLER
PPG 20.8
RPG 6.2
APG 4.3
SPG 1.6
BPG 0.3
FG% 0.453
FT% 0.858
3P% 0.310
MPG 38.6

Durant is basically better in every category except assists...(and he does not really have the people on his team to get those assists)
And dont say that Durant not having as much talent on his team increases his scoring...
because he shoots a better percentage from the field (and way better at the 3)
and that is only 1.5 more a game...
and again Durant is only in his 2nd year!
He is simply amazing...
Give him love and stop trying to find excuses for why Butler is better (because he is not)

Shane Battier is a top 5 defender and averages 0.8 block and 0.9 steals a game. Steals and Blocks really don't show that a player is a good defender. It just shows that they are good with their hands and are in the right place at the right time.
