View Full Version : Best clutch shooters in the NBA!

Look, everyone has their own opinion, you give yours!!!

1. Kobe Bryant- I hate this guy, but it's for a reason! He is so fookin' COLD! He's not only not afraid of the big shot, but he want's it, and he'll hit it!

2. Manu Ginobili- I can't say enough about this guy! Kobe Bryant said it's his favorite player to watch! He is like the Fedor of basketball! Not afraid of anything! He would be number #1 if Kobe wasn't an alien!!!! Seriously, I remember Gino talking about how he isn't afraid of anyone in the NBA because he has had batteries thrown at him when he was with Argentina! The guy really doesn't care! That's a great thing, but a bad thing when he's getting put on the floor(when he's not playing Euro ball-Flopping!)

3. Ben Gordon- Derrick Rose is Ice cold, but, gordon is stupid when the game is on the clutch! He reminds me of another guy who played for that team! Yeah, I know, it's a little far fetched, but only because Jordan would do it night in, and night out. Gordon is too streaky, as is Ginobili! But he can't beat out Gino, because Gino has the balls to take the shot even though he has excellent shooters! And Pop used to hate it but he loves it!

It's always debatable fellas, it's just my point of view!!!!

cmellofan15,

I like your picks, I should have stated only people in the NBA on rosters. Horry, wouldn't apply even though I agree! I don't agree with Lebron! Not on a consistent basis anyway! He's hit big shots before, but who hasn't? The list could be very long! Hell, I forgot Finley and Mason who have hit some really big shots! Well, I didn't forget them, they don't hit them on the basis I was thinking! Being consistent! It's not their fault, they don't get enough minutes! I should have stated starters as well!

He had a whole entire series of clutch shots, he didn't have to make them before then because the Cav's blew everybody out. Yes, he is currently a clutch player, and currently Vince isn't.

Right on! Allen could be 3 for 15 and I'd still want him shootong before Pierce. Truly... I'd want Eddie House shooting before Pierce. I love Pierce until the last minute of the game. The last couple seasons his FT% probably ain't 50% in the last minute of games. Doc knows this also because if you watch the last half of the season as well as the playoffs Pierce was very rarely the go to guy for last second shots.

So in alphabetical order....

Allen, Billups, Bryant, Wade

You know it's funny...Kobe Bryant only shoots 28% on game winning shots according to 82games.com (data sample from the past 6 seasons). I know he shoots a lot of them, but still, you'd think he'd have a higher percentage since it seems like he hits them most of the time. Carmelo Anthony actually has a pretty damn good percentage on game winning shots at 47%. The last 5-6 years, Kobe only has one more game winner than Melo, but has 29 more attempts.

What I thought was VERY interesting though, was that in the 2007-2008 season, Travis Outlaw was 5/5 that year on game winning shots...That's pretty impressive right there.

Last season (up to Feb 4th)
Roger Mason: 3/3 on game winners
Danny Granger: 5/7 on game winners
Brandon Roy: 4/7 on game winners
Raymond Felton: 3/8 on game winners

this whole kobe is so clutch thing is such a farce.. In the finals what clutch shots did he hit?? The guy in games 2-3-4 was awful down the stretch.. The reason people will say he is so clutch is because he has the ball in his hands 24/7 in those situations and he is a great player.. He wil hit some shots in that situation..

Is this about game winning shots, or clutch shots needed to change the momentum of game or get your team back in it? If the former, I can kinda see your point, especially if I completely ignore Kobe's game winning shots over the course of his career, especially in the playoffs.

But if we're talking about those instances where his team needs a bucket to either reacquire momentum or break an opponent's back, Kobe makes this list.

Ignoring my Lakers for a second, these are the guys that I hate to see get the ball with the clock ticking down because they are so clutch:

Wade
Dirk
Ray Ray

Melo
Baron Davis (when he was with the Warriors)

Brandon Roy would definitely be on this top 5 list. That dude has ice water running through his veins! Every time the game is on the line, he very calmly gets his shot and always seems to knock it down.

Ben Gordon is one of the best at hitting huge shots to tie the game up, but I still have never seen him hit a game winner!

1. Ray Allen - Can't count the amount of times this guy hits a 3 to bring a game back/win a game in the clutch
2. Vince Carter - I know OMG HOW CAN I PUT 'OL WASHED UP VC AT #2, maybe because he's had the 2nd most game-winning buzzers since 2002, 2nd to Lebron (LBJ made alot of layups) and he's the best fourth quarter scorer in the NBA
3. Kobe Bryant - No conscience, I've seen him miss numerous shots in the clutch but if the game's on the line he wants the ball no matter what and that spells D-A-N-G-E-R for the opposing team

Lebron drives and tries to dunk or get a call, and if he is boxed out he passes to Mo or West who take the shot. I would rather have Mo taking the last shot over Lebron if I wanted to win.

I know you're a huge Lebron fan, but let's be real...Lebron is not a shooter period. He can create good open shots for his team though and that's a good thing.

Lebron has a decent mid range jumper.

lmao oh great he's back, Carter has always been a clutch shooter and you should know this more than anyone. After all he's beaten your team more than any other in his career with his clutch 3s/jumpers/dunks. I live in Toronto and I watched him here (it was the only time I went to home games) and I've always been a fan of VC in Toronto, New Jersey and now Orlando. I'm just gonna give you my top ten fav players list so you know who I like and don't say "oh your bandwagonning because of this"

Raph's Top 10:
1. Dwight Howard (Been following since '04)
2. Allen Iverson (Been following since '98)
3. Kobe Bryant (Been following since '01)
4. Tim Duncan (Been following since '97)
5. Vince Carter (Been following since '97 [was a NC Tarheel at the time])
6. Kevin Durant (Been following since '08)
7. Chris Paul (Been following since '05)
8. Carmelo Anthony (Been following since '03)
9. Dwyane Wade (Been following since '03[jumpshot could use some work])
10. Lebron James (Been following since '03 [should he develop his jumper and not charge instead of driving to the rim I may place him higher up])

I may critisize any of these players (especially Lebron [inconsistent jumper, very pampered and still too much of a baby]) but I do like them all. And Raps08-09Champ sorry but I just don't believe in Raptors basketball, I am gonna go out on a limb and say we may never win a championship

I know Carter is clutch. We experienced it on both ends.

But if Carter was still on the Nets and Turk was still on the Magic, i bet you would probably say Turk was top 3 clutch.

no chance Turk wouldn't be in my top 10 clutchest shooters, neither would Lewis or Nelson or any other Magic player. I liked VC in North Carolina, I was so happy when Raps got him. I was in the crowd when he missed the game-winning jumper against AI and Philly. I was disapointed he left but I've moved on to another star and also former dunk champion Dwight Howard and now two of my fav players will play together so I'm psyched.

He had a whole entire series of clutch shots, he didn't have to make them before then because the Cav's blew everybody out. Yes, he is currently a clutch player, and currently Vince isn't.

:eyebrow: Didn't they lose 4-2. One of their wins was by 10 points.

No. That's not clutch shooting. Clutch shooting (maybe) is a combo of fg%, ft% and production I suppose. Kobe is not first just because he shoots more in the clutch and misses more.

A clutch shooter would have a high %.

Think more like:

James/Anthony
Kobe
Wade
Paul

huge dropoff

What defines clutch shooting? Is it game winning shots? Taking over late in the game?

All I know is when there is only enough time to make one shot to either tie or win a game and you can pick only one person to make it. I'd rather have Wade, Kobe, Billups, Pierce, Melo, Fisher, Horry, Duncan over all else.

My defense for this statement would be i'd feel more comfortable with these guys shooting b4 others. If Kobe and Ben Gordon were on the same team or Wade and LeBron and in the situation stated above..i'd rather have Kobe or Wade take the shot over Gordon or LeBron.

Yeah no doubt, MJ would be next guy on my list and your right anyone would rather guard Reggie than MJ, but Reggie is a catch-and-shoot player, sort of the Ray Allen of the '90s except more deadly. So guarding him is very difficult in the sense that he moves well without the ball, if we were playing the Pistons/Celtics of today and Rip Hamilton/Ray Allen was guarding Reggie, I'd let MJ take it, but otherwise Reggie's my man. But like you said just my opinion, I too respect yours..

People just don't want to give Melo his due, and Im glad you got this link because apparently, even after reading it, people don't want to give this guy his due. Melo is the best clutch shooter in the game. Bar none, people want to name there favorite basketball players, and thats fine, Im doing the same thing.

The only differnce is, Im stating facts, going from the time he entered the league Melo has had the best clutch shooting Percentage. If the game was on the line in today's game, and you needed the win Melo will deliver, ask kevin durant, or mark cuban, or the rockets, or the pacers, or the suns, or the T wolves. The list goes on and on. And reguardless of what anyone says, Thats whats makes him one of the best in the game. Besides the fact that he is the best all around offensive scorer in the game, and people can't say much about his defense anymore either.

I know I don't say much on this website, but Derek Fisher should be included on your top picks for the best clutch shooter in the league. He has made probably the best two shots in the NBA over the years that the NBA has seen. Now, I know I'm a Lakers fan, but the shots he has produced have been the main reason the Lakers have been so fortunate to have won so many championships in the recent years.
