So i thought i would like to start a thread counting down the years from 1985 (when they first implanted the lottery), and to now. Basically, who was the best player in the 1985 draft, and next thread in 1986, who was the best player in that draft, etc.

This has to be Karl Malone. No offense to Ewing, who was a great player, but Malone was a popular candidate for the greatest PF of all time until Duncan rolled around. (And let's face it, Duncan's half-center anyways.) Here are a few of his accomplishments:
2 Time League MVP
36,928 Career Points - 2nd to Kareem Abdul Jabbar
All-time Leader in Career Free-throws Made (9787)
Career Averages of 25 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 and a half assists (compare to 21, 10, and 2 for Ewing, who does beat Malone in blocks)
Missed a total of 10 games in his first 18 seasons (including 5 seasons in a row without missing a game)
17 Straight Seasons averaging at least 20 points (all but his first and last)
11 Seasons in a Row with 2,000 points (and probably would have been 13 without the lockout)
14 Time All-star (vs. 11)
11 Time All-NBA first team (vs. 1)
Ewing was a better defensive player and a better rookie. Both had remarkably close FG% and FT%, as well as falling under the curse of "Would have won except for Jordan." However, Malone was simply a better player. If Ewing wins this, it will be because he played in NY (a much better venue for publicity than Salt Lake City).

How this poll is even close is beyond me. Malone is clearly the best player based on career achievements.

malone is the biggest douche in NBA history. but just like nearly equally douchey Kobe, you can hate the player but not the game.

Best PF in history.
