View Full Version : 5 years from now, who will have emerged as the best PGs from the 2009 draft?

5 years from now, who do you think will have emerged as the best point guard(s) from the 2009 draft? I think this PG-heavy draft will be something often looked back on (somewhat like the 2003 draft) in terms of measuring out who rose from that crowded field to separate himself from the pack.

------------------------

edit-

By no means am I suggesting that this draft was anywhere near as good as 2003. I just think the fact there were so many PGs (where in the case of 2003 there were so many stars) that that will provide the basis for a lot of comparisons to be made.

i don't think jennings is going to do well in milwaukee.

jonny flynn could be the best in 5 years cause that team will just be hitting its stride.

lawson is in a great situation to do well once billups is gone.

jrue holiday also went into a situation where he could do well in a few years.

so, lawson, flynn, holiday, in that order

Jrue Holiday fell into the right situation here in philly.

No point guard with a young nucleus.

He'll be able to grow with this team and that is the most important...

Jrue Holiday 19/ Lou Williams 22
Andre Iguodala 25/ Dionte Christmas 21
Thaddeus Young 20
Marreese Speights 21
Jason Smith 22

And i like that at the very least he's a really hard worker and loves to play defense so that'll allow him thrive in this league.

I'd go out on a limb to say that Lawson will be the best, but Flynn will be a very close second.

And a very distant third will be Lester Hudson. :D lol

I'll say Flynn, Lawson, then Holiday. Flynn is a dynamic playmaker and having Jefferson and Love will only push his game to a further level. I have a feeling that Curry will be a bench player in a couple years. Come off the bench to shoot the 3 and that's it.

Are you saying Stephen Curry = JJ Redick?

Catfish1314

I would say Tyreke Evans but I don't know if he will still be a point guard 5 years from now. He's a lot like Joe Johnson, a shooting guard with point guard skills.

I'll say Ricky Rubio. Especially if he winds up in New York.

I think Rubio will be better than ppl think. Jru was put in a pretty good situation in terms of talent on Philly. Lawson was prolly put in the best situation cuz by backing up Billups he will get great lessons about the game and position from Billups. Once he retires Lawson will be able to direct a talented team. Jennings will be a flop tho. sick of tat boy already.

ESaady
06-28-2009, 05:46 PM
Jrue Holiday.
He will be able to guard the best of the best at the point guard position when he is at the top of his game. He will be able to get to the rim at will, he will be one of the stronger guards in the league. Coming out of UCLA Holiday is about 6'3 200. He will resemble Baron Davis who was 6'3 200 coming out of UCLA himself.

I actually think Rubio will be the best. He's the youngest out of all of them, he has played the tougher competition so far out of all them, and has been a pro for some time now.
1. Rubio
2. Flynn
3. Curry
4. Jennings
5. Tyreke Evans

Tyreke Evans, assuming he stays a point guard, he's in a pretty good situation in sacramento and will work great with kmart and the 2 bigs (jt/hawes)

The success of any point guard is related to their place on a team. For that reason, Tyreke Evans is going to be one of the best point guards, since he'll automatically run the show in Sacramento. Johny Flynn will be one of the best, since it's obvious he's going to be the only point guard Minnesota drafted who is going to stay there. Stephen Curry won't do that well as long as he's a part of the Warriors, because there's already so many ball handlers there. Ty Lawson won't do that well to start off, because Chauncey Billups is present.

Dag im surprised Johny Flynn is getting so much love....

1. Rubio will be the best only if he goes to New York (or a place he wants to play).

2. Evans has a great chance to become a franchise player in SAC....again he has to stay a PG and I feel his abilities and size will eventually lead him to SG.

3. Lawson can learn from the great Chauncey Billups. Thats such a huge advantage.

4. Flynn has a great supporting cast in Jefferson and Love.

Before the draft I would have easily said Eric Maynor. Problem is he went to the Jazz where he wont get any playing time. I still think he will be the best though in 5 years because by then he will have shown what he can do and a team in need of a PG will likely trade for him by then.

SiteWolf
06-29-2009, 10:21 AM
I'm not sure who will emerge as the best.............but I know for sure which team will have drafted the most of 'em!

....Patty Mills will be on that list..not necessarily top 5, but could...

where does aj price play?

Price was the Pacer's second round pick.

As for the topic at hand, gotta go with Lawson though I'll admit I really have no clue. But I think he's landing in a fantastic situation getting to learn from Chauncey Billups in Denver and the dude simply knows how to play. His only issue will be his height.
