From CommercialAppeal.com (http://blogs.commercialappeal.com/the_memphis_edge/2009/06/griz-fail-to-land-randolph-and-much-more.html)

Sources confirmed Friday that the Grizzlies weighed numerous deals -- some reasonable while others not worth considering.

The Phoenix Suns, who tried to move Amare Stoudamire to Memphis at last season's trade deadline, was at it again. This time, the Suns wanted Rudy Gay and the No. 2 overall pick for Stoudemire.

The Celtics' best offer for the Grizzlies' No. 2 pick only included center Kendrick Perkins.

Miami offered Michael Beasley for the second pick, and served up Mario Chalmers for the 27th selection.

One of Houston's overtures for the second pick included Tracy McGrady. Another Rockets attempt to move up involved former Griz Shane Battier and Carl Landry as well as other pieces. But Houston also wanted Gay.

Cleveland (via Daniel Gibson and JJ Hickson), Charlotte (via Emeka Okafor and Nazr Mohammed), Dallas (via Josh Howard) and Oklahoma City (via Nick Collison) also made attempts to grab the No. 2 pick.

Seriously, I can't stand the Cavs front office. They get so much **** for basically free. I don't know who they think they are. I'm not even a Griz fan and that deal offended me. Gibson who now plays left bench, along with Gibson for a SECOND OVERALL PICK. Are you kidding me Ferry? Getting a free Mo Williams, Shaq, and Delonte West wasn't enough?

They should have taken the Heat offer.

I doubt Miami offered Beasley for the #2 pick straight up. They must have wanted more. Beasley is exactly what Memphis needs... and he would fill up the seats, another thing Memphis needs. They must have wanted Gay or Conley with the pick.

You laugh at that but don't laugh at the Nick Collison offer for the #2? That's the worst one in there. At least Amar'e is an allstar

sounds like miami is losing a little faith in beasley. they took him with the #2 pick last year and now they wanted to trade him for the #2 pick this year. seems like they wanted a do over

this is complete BS. If Beasley got traded, it would be only for a veteran star like Bosh (even though it wouldn't be too smart). Shut down this thread please bc the article was horribly made up

Did it ever cross your mind that it was probably Collison+ THE 3RD OVERALL pick for number 2?

I guess you didnt manage to put 2 and 2 together..

Until you go 82-0 and sweep the playoffs, it should never be enough.

I would've gone for the Beasley deal. I think Miami would've gone with Thabeet with #2. I definitely woud've pulled the trigger for that one.

I think Memphis did the right thing.
PG- Conley
SG- Mayo
SF- Gay
PF- Gasol
C- Thabeet.
If Gasol doest work at PF they can always trade for one.

amare for Gay and gasol

Reyes6
06-27-2009, 04:35 PM
Gasol will work at PF, just needs to work on his FT%. Plus, they have a solid bench with Arthur, Warrick, King Haddidi (I added the king because he sounds like a character from Aladdin), Q-Rich, Marko "My wife is too hot for me" Jaric, Miles, and Mihm.

Might hover around .500 this year, wouldn't be surprised if they push for that 8th seed.

I had a feeling that that was a HUGE mistake right when it happened. I thought Houston would've been set with McGrady, Yao and Gay for the future, but then them trading for Battier really made me question if the owner and GM even cared about the future of that franchise.

Forget Thabteet. He couldnt even handle Blair never mind bigger NBA players. He will fail. They should have traded the second pick to Charlotte for Okafor an Nazr

Conley/Jaric
Mayo/Richardson/Buckner
Gay/S. Young/
Okafor/Arthur/Carroll
Gasol/Nazr/Haddidi

Not bad

But, just to make sure, we took time to get the opposing view. And here's the latest: The Heat on Saturday said it was the Grizzlies that contacted it and tried to trade the No. 2 pick for Michael Beasley, not the other way around. A Heat spokesman confirmed that it was the Grizzlies who made the overtures.

In addition, that same report in the Commercial Appeal said that the Heat offered starting point guard Mario Chalmers for the No. 27 pick. Again, a Heat spokesman quickly corrected that it was Memphis that attempted to peddle No. 27 pick for Chalmers.

I was about to clear that up. Riley>Chris Wallace. No way is Thabeet>Beasley or is gonna be better. And Chalmers, a starting PG for a Tony Douglas type is just ridiculous
