DENVER (AP) -- The Denver Nuggets have traded a future first-round draft pick to Minnesota for the rights to North Carolina point guard Ty Lawson.

The Nuggets, who lacked a first-round pick for the fourth straight year, landed Lawson in exchange for a future first-round pick they acquired from Charlotte last year.

The Nuggets have coveted Lawson, who opted to return to school last year and then led the Tar Heels to the national championship. Denver needed a reserve point guard to spell Chauncey Billups, who tired toward the end of the Nuggets' run to the Western Conference finals last month. Billups will be 33 next season.

With the 34th overall pick, the Nuggets selected another point guard, Sergio Llull of Spain, whom they traded to Houston for cash considerations.

Great pickup for the Nuggets! He is gonna be a stud and gets to learn from one of the best in the game in Billups.

I think Jrue Holiday was a great pick for you guys, pretty much a no brainer. He has great size, good instincts, and has the potential to be great defensively. He was worked out by the Kings and he was a possibility at #4 at one point.

This looks like a good trade now, but I think it depends on the conditional pick. It is Charlottes pick and they do suck so it could be a high one in a few years. Lawson definalty looks good behing Billups, but I want to know the conditions on the pick traded.

Not a good pick up but a great pick up. Huge upgrade over Carter and really could be a great pg for the future being behind Chauncey for a couple of years. I still really dont know what T Wolves were doing getting all those PGs doe. I want to see how that turns out.

Nuggets got such a great PG.
Lawson is going to do fantastic in Denver imo.

This is a great pickup, and he can learn behind one of the most efficient PG's in the NBA.

Good pickup, but don't think Lawson is gonna be a star in this league....

Nice pickup by the Nuggets. I agree that learining from Billups is the ideal situation for a young PG. Lawson should grow into a great leader, and hopefully his quickness makes up for his lack of size.

Though I was bothered by George Karl's comments that he'd still like to go with Anthony Carter over Lawson if Carter is re-signed. Ugh

They need to re sign Andre Miller now. I don't think they would want to thrust Holiday into a starting role as a rookie. He could be a cood combo G off the bench this year though.

Lawson should be a good fit in Denver. JR SMith, Kenyon Martin, Nene, Melo, & Birdman (if re signed) will love playing with him.
