With all these new trades, the east seems to look like the stronger conference. At least the top 3.

What big will help the wizards compete with the big 3 in the east. They need a big man who can score and play defense. Any thoughts?

funny thing about all these trades, is that i keep reading: cleveland is the favorite, then its orlando is the favorite. I hate Boston but it seems like everyone is already writing off Boston. And when there healthy I still think there up there on the top. IMO

East was already stronger at the top 3 than the West last year. But after the top 3, the East is definitely still weaker

its not the whole east(no bulls, bucks, raps, ect.)

the rest of the east looks like they'll just be taking a dive for next year(s) just letting the big boys(cle, bos, magic)who are having an arms race trying to one up each other, duke it out

overall the east is still weaker. But the three eastern powerhouses are better than the three western powerhouses

Even if Boston stayed healthy, I just don't see how they compete with the Magic or Cavs. I mean anything can happen in the playoffs, but at least in the regular season there could be a large gap after the 2 seed.

I totally agree. Because the East also have some real good up and coming, one move away teams like the Heat and the Bulls and some other teams that are only a few moves from being more serious contenders as well. The tides have finally began to turn in over the last few years in terms of the power of each conference.

Not really. We'll have to wait till the season is about midway through before any real judgements on this. The West still has 8 teams that are all for sure playoff teams in the East. The East has 3 teams that would make the playoffs in the West. Even if those three teams all had 59+ wins.

Not to mention teams like the Warriors, Thunder, Twolves, and Grizzlies could all be on the way up.

Come on there is only 3 good teams in the east: Orl, Bos & LeBrooms...

West: LA, Den, SA, Hou, Por, Uth, NO...

Any Questions???

Well, this year, the top 2 in the East got stronger with Shaq and VC.

Problem is, Shaq and VC are old.

I'd still take the western powerhouses over the 3 eastern ones for the only reason being that the western conference teams are not adding players so you know what you will get from them and they have more experience and know how to win Lakers and Spurs have 8 of the last what is it 11 championships I believe and they still have their cores.

Why is everyone assuming Cleveland will improve with Shaq? I'm not so sure, Pheonix certainly didn't get any better once they aquired the big man.

Shaq will more than likely get his *** in shape since he'll be with lebron. Also, he watched kobe win his 4th. He's gotta 1-up kobe before he retires. Cleveland will be better!

i thought the top 3 in the east last year were better than the west top 3. now i really think so. i think that is a great move for the magic especially if turk leaves. spurs may be back in contention if they can hold up. i think the nuggets will be inconsistent again and obviously the lakers are still faves in the west. i think the wiz, hawks (w/crawford) and the heat could make an arguement for the top 5 or so in the east being better than 5 in the west. again if all stay healthy.

It's a good thing that these 3 bigs are in different divisions in the east.

Boston,cavs,orlando>lakers,nuggets,spurs.

Im not really sold on the nuggets beating any of the big three in a 7 game series.

For the west and east..id say the east has more up and coming teams with the hawks, heat, wizards and bulls.

West powerhouses is aging yes shaq is old but he's still good and they will have major cap relief. The east will be more competitive next year and im pretty sure. The nuggets imo wouldn't beat any of the top 3 teams in the east and supposedly they are considered the 2nd best in the west? The spurs is definently the wildcard because with everybody healthy they CAN beat the lakers. My prediction: Boston vs Spurs finals next year.

The top teams in the East already were better than those in the West. And ORL & CLE both just got better. To be fair, SA did as well. But let's wait & see what happens with guys like Odom, Ariza, & Turkoglu before deciding which conference has more top teams.

Not the top three.

Lakers are one.
Magic are two.
Cleveland are three.
Denver.
Celtics.
Rockets.

It is equal up top. As the whole conference it is the West still, I am sorry.

Shaq did exercise often for the Suns. He was having a hard time with 30 minutes a game. He did say he was going to bring a championship there and all that crap and train harder. Shaq is getting older and more uneffective by the day. It is a one year or two year impact he will have the Cavs. He brought a 60 win team to out of the playoffs.

Shaq will make the Cavs better against the Magic, but I don't know if his defense is going to be able to handle the fast pace teams... Lakers, Celtics (great fast break), Denver

And ORL & CLE both just got better.

I wish I could agree with you, but adding a 38 year old Shaq who no longer gets the benefit of the whistle for his bull-you-over offensive moves doesn't make the Cavs better. They still need one more proven perimeter shooter and LeBron needs to learn how to operate from the post. Shaq is going to give you an inside scorer, but his conditioning has always been a HUGE question mark. Will he be up for possibly a 100 game season to win the title?

As for ORL, their problem was defense as much as anything else in the Finals. They did a stellar job of it against the Cavs, but were outgunned against the Lakers, who have several players that can score at any given moment. Vince, last I checked, has never been in the discussion as a defensive stop gap. Maybe if they picked up Bowen and pointed him toward the fountain of youth?

The same thing was said last year when JO got traded to the Raps and Brand got traded to Philly. How did that turn out....My point is that we need to wait and see how the team performs to actually make something out of it. On paper, the East probably looks better top to bottom, though.

east coast bias much?so the cavs brought in shaq from the west...but carter goes from east conference playoff team tot he same..how does the east get stronger?the spurs made the big trade for jefferson...the nugs wouldve killed the magic...the 10th best team in the west is still the 4th best team in the east...its not that the east is getting better than the west, theyre finally getting towards our level

East top 3 > West top 3
Other playoff teams in the east << Other playoff teams in the West

Utah was the 8th seed in the West, they would have been 4 in the east. That tells you all you need to know about the other teams in the East.

really? where do the lakers stand? but i think the point is, if there was a tupac and biggie beef with west and east who is deeper. and it would be the west. its pretty obvious the west as a whole is better than the east because all of you guys want to talk about is the top 3 teams.
