82games has in-depth stats for NBA teams and players, designed to accurately highlight true performance levels.

We will be running many new features during this post-season that will hopefully shine a spotlight on some of the less obvious contributions being made, both good and bad!

I love 82games. They have some really useful stats. Roland rating is a great stat. I like it more than PER.

This list really isn't surprising. I think LeBron was the single best player in the playoffs, I think Gasol did better than Howard etc.

Surprised Rondo isn't higher.

Would have liked to see Turkoglu make it, but looking back, he was terribly inconsistent. No surprise there.

You do realize Rolands Rating is essentially PER + Counterpart PER + (+/-)

Pierce's counterparts had the higher PER, and unlike Rondo and Ray, Pierce had more instances where he was without either or just one of the big2. But really both were up and down these playoffs. So Id agree that they were this close within eachother.

THey are similar, but I like Rolands Rating better because it isn't stat-oriented. It's strictly production. PER takes all the individual stats into consideration, which is fine, but Rolands Ratings is strictly on court vs. off court team scoring. It shows how much a single player contributes to their team...hence why LeBron is so far and above everyone else (he IS the Cavs). It's less individual, and more team based.

The more I think about it, the less alike I think they are. PER is a tricky forumal, Rolands Rating is simple: point differential when a player is on the court vs. point differential off. It cuts out all the crap and gets down to the business.
