Bucks general manager John Hammond was not done when he made the trade with the San Antonio Spurs earlier today, dealing Richard Jefferson for three players and providing financial relief for the Milwaukee franchise.

A high-ranking Bucks source has told the Journal Sentinel that Fabricio Oberto, one of the three Spurs players acquired earlier, will be traded to the Detroit Pistons for power forward Amir Johnson.

The 22-year-old Johnson is a 6-foot-9, 210-pound forward who was a second-round pick of the Pistons in the 2005 draft. He averaged 3.5 points and 3.7 rebounds in 62 games with the Pistons last season.

Johnson started 24 games for Detroit last season and averaged 14.7 minutes per game. Johnson is scheduled to make $3.66 million next season in the final year of his contract, while Oberto's deal is an expiring one for $3.5 million.

The acquisition of Johnson could have an impact on the Bucks' decision of whether to re-sign power forward Charlie Villanueva, a restricted free agent. But the deals made today give Hammond some flexibility in dealing with the restricted free agency of Villanueva and point guard Ramon Sessions.

haha there was nothing for the past week and then this. id say the league planned this so that they can hype up the offseason. might actually be a slow one this year.

the pistons will probably waive oberto; his contract is only 50% guaranteed.

Well atleast the Bucks got something out of Oberto.

Oberto really isnt that bad of a player, very high basketball IQ and great passing/moving out with the ball ability.

Hmm interesting. Does this mean Kwame brown will probably be the starting center for Detroit if he exercises his player option?

I think theyre regretting not taking bosh. maybe they'll make a play for him. I don't think they'll go for kwame. I hear someone named BJ Mullens just guaranteed himself at least a 15th spot in the draft. If they keep oberto, i think pistons still go with mullens.

This draft is weak in centers. 4 i think.

I like Amir. He's young, and has the potential to be a solid player.

Yeah really. I mean Sheed is gone, Mcdyess is probably gone too. Amir is gone now and I think the Pistons will just buy out Oberto's contract and let him be a free agent. Now if Kwame's smart, he'll use his player option and see if he can be the starting center for them because now the Pistons need his size unless they're going after Amare of Bosh.

Pistons need size.

All they have under contract right now is Maxiell.

Actually I wouldn't be surprised if Boozer signs with Detroit, and Kwame uses his player option to be their starting center.

Scrub for scrub. That's it. Anyone who tries to say this is a good deal for either team for talent reasons is a blind homer.

Cap move.

no way Lakers give ariza to you...Odom would be gone 1st before TA..

For me I think you need to sign LO or Boozer...

then hopefully Gordon...that would be a sick team...

Nice job by Joe on this trade...

Anyone getting the feeling that Joe D. has been talking to the Raptors to work a memorable trade. I think that squeezing as much cash back to the coffers could open up the opportunity to bring in Bosh and EXTEND him.

...and to elaborate my personal wish list this offseason is Milsap,Gorden, and Bosh (via trade).....I love the "D"umars sense of business.

I think Amir is going to be a solid player. He's a great defender, pretty athletic, and has some pretty solid skills. I'd rather his upside than Oberto's sound, but very primitive, play.

....and enjoy him as a project who cannot finish, block out on rebounds, and makes mental errors on help defense. However he has an NBA body that he doesn't use. No talent for a second round, overpaid (~3.5 mill) pick. Kinda like the NYY Drew Henson (MI QB) developmental contract about ten years ago where he was paid millions in the minors.

Joe D is going to buy out his contract.

Hopefully we can sign Boozer and Gordon and trade Rip for Tyson Chandler(more if needed).

PG: Stuckey
SG: Gordon
SF: Prince
PF: Boozer
C: Chandler

That's a pretty bad *** lineup, as long as Chandler and Boozer can stay healthy.

Good luck with that fantasy. I think you might be a little sour about giving away Amir Johnson :9/11:

Sour? Why would I be sour? Amir isn't good, how can I be sour about trading away a player for salary cap room that isn't good?

When a team who is already at least 17mil under the cap trades a young big for about 1.75mil more in cap space, you KNOW that big is awful.

Find me a pistons fan who is sour about giving away Johnson and i'll find you a liar

Who told you this nonsense? Amir fouls every opportunity he gets. Awful, awful defender who is most likely out of position at all times.

Yeah I've never thought Oberto was a bad player. He's a solid role player.

I do like this trade for the Bucks though. Johnson can be a really good role player, it's nice for them to have him in their future.

The Pistons buying out and waiving Oberto clears up almost 3 million with Johnson gone. They are going to be busy over the next few weeks. Rip and Tayshaun could be next. Total overhaul of the roster. And damn it, I really hope they don't waste the 15th pick on Mullens. I'm a buckeye fan too, he is a sloth. No fire, and plays really soft for a big guy.

Most likely their going to release F. OBerto aka my dude. So thats another 3 mill off their cap.

For the 2010 season.. the Pistons might have enough money to sign 2 all-star caliber players.. In fact they have the money to do it now... ( Boozer and Gordon).

And have the players to trade for Tyson Chandler :D. Along with the #15 pick to throw in there if needed.
