I made one of these threads in the Steeler forum after the Superbowl, and we have something similar in the Laker forum at the moment, but I thought we should have an NBA-wide one. Basically, just post your favourite memories from the season. Here are a few of mine:

A game a few weeks into the season where the Lakers went on a 17-0 run in the second half to beat Dallas. Trevor Ariza was all over the place, and at one point the lights went out. Cool game.

I remember the games against New Orleans as well. In the first one at Staples Center, Chris Paul and David West combined for 72 points, then it looked like they were going to win the second one before Derek Fisher drew an offensive foul on Paul, and hit a game tying three pointer. Also a cool game :D

What stands out in your minds?

Kobe and LeBron doin work at Madison Square Garden....I was there for both games.

The Knicks beating the Celtics.

Being there when Bynum came back from his injury late in the season and watching the Lakers take it to the nuggets.

Lakers-Celtics, the Rondo altercation. What a great game that was.

Injuries, injuries, injuries. And not just role players but Allstars. KG, Manu, Nelson, Yao, T-mac to name a few.

But the most compelling was this:

The 129-127 overtime victory, Nets over Raptors, with Vince's unbelievable heroics to save the game at the end of regulation and win it in overtime.

He took over that game in unbelievable fashion.

Sigh.

Chauncey's last game in Detroit.

Seeing the Pistons under .500 in the middle of the season for the first time in a loooooong time.

Rip being moved to the bench after leading the team in scoring for six straight 50+ win seasons.

AI's "back injury", which "unfortunately" kept him out at the end of the season.

Getting beasted on by Cleveland in the first round.

Ahhhh... memories...

I can think of eight major stories this season:
1. Kobe’s Conquest: He finally did it without Shaq, cementing his place as one of the game’s all time greatest.
2. The Showdown that Never Happened: LeBron vs. Kobe 2010?
3. What “Big 3”?: The Rise of the Orlando Magic into the NBA’s elite.
4. Injuries: The Wizards, Clippers, Jazz, Celtics, Spurs, and several others can tell you just how frustrating injuries are. Just about every team lost a starter for significant time this season.
5. “Only a Flesh Wound”: The Rockets rising through losing player after player to get out of the first round and give the Lakers their hardest (or at least longest) series.
6. Up and Coming: A great showing for the 2008-09 rookies, who’ll entertain for years to come.
7. Celtics vs. Bulls: Some have called it the best series of all time, even if it was in the first round.
8. End of an Era?: Are the Suns done?

One of my favorite Raptors moments considering it was our 2nd last game of the year and Caron Butler had just hit a game winner against us a few days earlier than this. A nice bright spot on a painful season.

Am I the only one who thinks the Knicks would have made the playoffs if they didn't trade Zach or Crawford?

They would have, but it just wasn't the correct long term answer. It's kind of like if PHX kept Marion, or even with Shaq, if they had Alvin Gentry the whole season instead of Terry Porter. They would have been great, made the playoffs and maybe make it to the semi's but they couldn't go all the way. Terry Porter's style was a step in the right direction but it took patience and time to get them off of what they were used to doing, but the players didn't reciprocate. Keeping Crawford and Randolph is the "Gentry" solution, while what we have now is a more drawn out Terry Porter style.

Hopefully that analogy makes sense.

1. Koby and the gang winning it all without Shaq.
2. 6 overtimes in the Celtics/Bulls series.
3. The Rocket's not only getting out of the first round WITHOUT Tmac, but taking the series against the NBA champs to 7 games, WITHOUT Tmac and Yao.
4. Mutumbo getting a standing ovation from the Portland fans when his career endend on the court.
5.Seeing Phil Jackson getting his 10th ring, which is the most for any NBA coach.
6. Lastly, seeing Dallas get knocked out of the playoffs.

Personally, its the rockets injuries. Every year, it's either Yao out or Tmac, it's getting frustrating especially against the eventual champs in round two.

Non homer memories.......

Billups/Iverson trade. I think Dumas pulled a Dumb*** move and Iverson turned spoiled brat.

Wizards, "tank" the season while Arenas makes a cameo in the most important tv game of the year against the Cavs and then shut's it down. Wow! That was so exciting that he graced us with his presence.
