Bryce Harper Enrolls In Junior College
By Mike Axisa [June 14 at 11:56am CST]
According to Matt Youmans of The Las Vegas Review-Journal, 16-yr old phenom Bryce Harper has enrolled at the College of Southern Nevada, and plans to attend classes this August. He will also get his GED this fall. Because CSN is a two-year institution, the move allows Harper to be eligible for the 2010 draft rather than waiting for 2011, when he would graduate high school.

Harper was introduced to the masses in a SI feature last month, and at the moment is the odds on favorite to go first overall in either the 2010 or 2011 drafts.

Wow, that's going to be a great 1-2 for the Nationals. Strasburg this year, Harper next. I wonder if they'll have the money to afford both.

First the Strasburg wait, and now potentially Harper. This could end up being a crazy couple years in DC.

The problem with drafting Bryce Harper is that he has said multiple times he wants to be a Yankee. That being said, the Nationals would be drafting him based on the knowledge they'd have 5 and a half years with him, then trade him at the all star break in his contract year for big talent.

They should be fine with that.

I'm not the only one who points out spelling errors. Especially when it's in the title.

I wasn't even trying to be a dick about it. I politely asked, you *****.

How do we know how any college player or high school player is going to perform with the big boys, thats always the question.

And the SI article on him talked about this and how his parents think hes just too good to compete in High School another few years...

Egomania. If he fails or has some career-ending injury, what does he have to fall back on? He'll be ****ed if that happens. Has great tools but then again so did several other busts.

Personally, I'd like to see him hit in high school before anything. The guy had 3 HR this season in high school. I don't give a **** what he can do in batting practice/ home run derby. He can't hit real pitching for power yet.

I've heard him say that he would be disappointed with his career if he isn't classified as the greatest baseball player of all time.

He probably loves the game, but that's probably what his agent told him to say.

I hope he's set up for some major disappointment because that **** won't be happening. Hell he probably won't be even be the best minor league player when he gets there. Sorry but when there are players like Pujols, Ramirez, and Mauer still playing, I highly doubt you'll be at their level.

No you guys don't know that. I on the otherhand do. :D

Of course there's a chance he may be the best but I'd bet my life that there's no way in hell that he becomes the best player in baseball history. IMO, I don't see him coming anywhere close to Pujols.

Its hard to be the best when the greatest player ever is playing. By that I of course mean Mauer

Mikey Rizzos lovin this **** haha.

Wait, he only had 3 hrs in hs this year?

R BU 5
06-14-2009, 11:13 PM
only 3 hrs because he was walked intentionally every time or pitched around probably lol

A bunch of my friends saw this kid play in cooperstown a few years back. In 17 at bats, the kid hit 16 homeruns. He is far and away advanced beyond his years, so he might as well play for junior college and try to prepare to face minor league pitching, because JUCO pitching will be a lot better than high school pitching

He had around 90 official AB's this year and hit 3 HR's. He may have incredible power but the only time I have seen it displayed is when it's with an aluminum bat in batting practice. Wily Mo Pena had crazy bp power as well and he didn't exactly translate to the bigs (yeah I know it's not a great example).

The kid is 16 years old and has hit numerous shots 500+ feet, of course he's going to be cocky.

As far as wanting to be a Yankee, who didnt say they wanted to play for their favorite team when they were young. Eventually, he'll realize that Major League Baseball is a business, and when all those 0's start rolling in front of him, he'll want to play for whoever pays him.

Potential is the most sought after commodity in baseball. Look at all the major trades. Its very rare that its a big named player for a big named player. Its usually a big named player for prospects. Right now, Bryce Harper has more potential than anybody MLB has seen in a long time. The last player to get this type of hype out of high school was ARod, and depsite his little scandle, his career has been quite successful.

Yeah so he can sign a 200+m contract when he gets loose from his rookie deal with the Nats.

Guaranteed he is a major league quality douche. Im thinking he will be a below average player in the majors, the ego, and plus the fact that he is 16, he wont be able to live up to his own claims of best ever and HOF.

It is a great career and business move no one whines about tennis, basketball or even the boy and girl geniuses that skip high school altogether and get this none of them get guaranteed 10 to 20 million in the bank hmmmmm.

Most who do not like the idea is just jealous.

With Harper, like any player, nobody ever knows what will happen. This is why some 1st rounders never make it to the bigs and some 30th rounders do. Baseball is great in that regard.

If he continues to develop the talent and makes it, then good for him. But just like this year with Strasburg and all the hype, I cannot see a way that the Nationals (if they indeed finish last again as they're on pace to) pass up on Bryce. Bust or not.
