so who do u guys think they will select?

my guess if it's a high school player it's Tyler Matzek, or Shelby Miller[ possibly Jacob Turner i hope]
if they go the college way then it's Gibson or Crow, maybe Grant Green.

I see us going with Crow...I would be shocked if the Pirates selected a high school player because I just believe they need a good player now and a college player would be the quickest way to get someone to the bigs

It will probably be a pitcher and I am also leaning towards Crow but not discounting Gibson.

Hate to be a skeptic but they'll probably pick someone who they could get near the top of the second round with their first pick, ha

Since there is only one pitcher in the draft thats even close to starting above A-ball next year and he'll be gone long before we draft. I'm betting Huntington drafts another pitcher who struggles in A-ball then has his obligatory tommy john surgery and is moved on.

I want Grant Green but I wouldnt be mad if they took Crow(projecting Ackley to be gone otherwise he is my #1)

Crow would make the most sense to me, he could be a good 2 or 3 starter in the bigs. If they want to develop someone they should take Matzek cuz he could be an ace. They would have to wait till 2011 at least tho.

We're going have to wait till the 2011 to "compete" anyway.

MLB.COM is project the BC catcher Tony Sanchez as our pick. I really hope not. Crow seems the most logical to me in terms of need. If management wants another catcher, they should take him later - I doubt he is going to be snapped up before the next round comes.

would be satisfied with anyone but sanchez. come on pirates r u stupid or something.
sanchez is good but not top 10 talent. u got turner, matzek, miller, white, crow, green, purke, gibson select one of those and not the easy sign.

ah oh well, it's who u select in the later rounds. we shouldn't select him but they r getting a good, but not great player.

The first 3 picks better be pitchers...

Strasburg first, Ackley 2nd, Tate 3rd.

To me... Crow is on the board, you HAVE to take him. This farm system needs pitching desperately

Pittsburgh selected Tony Sanchez. Nice player, but everyone and their momma's knew they needed pitching.

Pittsburgh selected Tony Sanchez.

Not the best pick. Could have gone in the supplemental round. Should have gotten high school pitching.

I just don't understand how you don't draft pitching. I guess having a lot of sub par pitching in the lower levels is okay with the organization. I personally just don't get it.

I'm disappointed just about any pitcher in the 1st round woulda been a better pick. I agree i think they r tryin to make up for passing on Wieters. They didnt even get great pitchers when they drafted them.:pity:

I know none of you guys will get too excited over this, but the Pirates picked up one of my good friends in this draft. RHP Chris McKenzie was picked by you guys in the 35th round, pick #1045 overall. Obviously I'm biased, but I think he's a steal. He graduated high school with me last year and played one year of Junior College ball this season. He throws in the low to mid 90's with a very good curve and a plus changeup. If he develops another pitch, he may have a future in baseball. Hey, late round picks have bloomed before!

That's pretty cool, hopefully you can watch him rise successfully through the ranks.

Our FO is garbage.

I agree with this. I am not convinced by these moves we're making.
