Pirates probable pitcher
Jeff Karstens

* #27 RHP
* (2-2) 4.83 ERA 22 SO

Karstens had one of his best starts of the season in his last game, when he went seven innings and gave up just two runs against Houston. The seven innings were the most he\'s pitched since a complete-game shutout against Arizona last August. After struggling with his command early in the season, Karstens has just four walks in his last five starts.

Astros probable pitcher
Mike Hampton

* #11 LHP
* (3-4) 5.07 ERA 36 SO

Hampton has to be pleased about making his second consecutive start against the Pirates. He has won his past eight decisions against them -- having not lost to the Bucs in more than nine years -- and is 2-0 with an 0.69 ERA against them this season. His most recent start was in Pittsburgh Sunday, when he allowed one run on three hits in seven innings. Hampton is 0-2 with a 5.74 ERA at Minute Maid Park this season.

Good job making GT's Maholm.

Karstens is doing pretty good. Need some more offense though.

Ill post todays game thread

Pirates probable pitcher
Paul Maholm

* #28 LHP
* (3-2) 3.82 ERA 38 SO

It will be back-to-back starts against the Astros for Maholm, who lost to Houston in his last start despite allowing only two runs -- one earned -- in seven innings. Though Maholm is now winless in his last seven starts, that outing last Sunday seemed to get Maholm back on track after his previous start, which lasted but four innings. There are still some consistency issues with Maholm's fastball, but nothing that he feels can't be fixed before his next start. He is now 5-4 with a 4.50 ERA in 10 career starts against Houston.

Astros probable pitcher
Roy Oswalt

* #44 RHP
* (2-2) 4.28 ERA 55 SO

Start No. 12 was a lucky one for Oswalt, who finally captured his second win of the season. Oswalt bounced back from his uncharacteristically wild outing against the Reds to hold Colorado to one run on six hits in his last start, striking out eight and walking two over seven innings. Oswalt was 2-1 with a 1.71 ERA in three starts against the Pirates last season. In his career, Oswalt is 13-6 with a 2.40 ERA over 24 starts against Pittsburgh.

Today is going to be a very good pitching matchup.Maholm has looked better than Oswalt regardless of his track record. We need to Rock him tonight

Just 2 days.

Great win today. Surprised we couldn't get any runs yesterday, but today we unload on Oswalt.
