Congrats Jimmie Johnson. Well deserved victory.

Yes that was a **** of a drive back to the front in the last 30 or so laps. As for my boy Jr. a 12th place finish was a good start with his new crew chief. It was good to see him run up in the Top 5 for a good bit during the race and I look for big things from him hopefully in the next few weeks.

Yeah I agree it was great to see jr back where he belongs in the top 5,I know he finished 12th but I think he had a better car than 12th,he just pitted one time when he shouldn't have. But I am happy with a 12th place finish to start it off.Hoppefully he will be pulling that 88 car into victory lane before too long.Jr normally runs decent at pocono so we'll see.I am excited for next week now

Just got home from dover. Happy with the outcome for Jimmie of course, very disappointed with Sam Hornish's finish. Got caught 2 laps down after that first phantom debris caution right in the middle of green flag stops, got both laps back and ended up with a 13th place finish. He had a top 5 car, he was passing all the leaders (except the 48) when he was fighting to get his lap back. All and all, a great race, and unfortunately its going to be a while til race #7 for me this year.

Good race. NASCAR needs to make changes to the lucky dog rule though... it's getting pretty ridiculous that basically everyone can get their lap back at some point.

Good race. NASCAR needs to make changes to the lucky dog rule though... it's getting pretty ridiculous that basically everyone can get their lap back at some point.

They are going to a double file restart this week at Pocono(I think), and cars a lap down will have the option of staying out and getting their lap back, and get waived around the pace car (similar to the way some Indy car series' work). There wont be any changes to the lucky dog rule, but candidates for the rule will be lined up 2-by-2. Of couse if they do that, the cars that stayed out to get their lap back will be on old tires, and will have to pray for a quick caution.

Wait are you talking about if they get a lap down due to a caution in the middle of the pit cycle, or just being one lap down in general?

Wait are you talking about if they get a lap down due to a caution in the middle of the pit cycle, or just being one lap down in general?

If you are a lap down to the leader and choose not pit under caution, right now you pull up directly behind the pace car while the lead lap cars pit, and then those lead lap cars come out behind you so technically you are on the lead lap, but you are not allowed to pass the pace car therefore you start as if you are the leader but you are really on the tail end of the lead lap. If this double file restart rule goes into effect, you will be able to pass the pace car and start at the end of the longest line or as the last car on the lead lap infront of the cars 1 lap down (which ever they decide, I havent heard)

I was talking about the lucky dog in general, not if it had to do with a caution in the midst of a pit cycle.

The fact that so many cars are able to get a lap back during a race is pretty sad.

It just seemed so bad this past week because so many cars good cars mostly still got caught in the pits, It usually does not bother me that much.

No, the lucky dog rule still applied. Before the field got frozen at the instance of the caution, it wasnt uncommon for 4-5 cars to pass the leader to get laps back before the leader actually got the caution because it was an understood rule for the leader to back off and let some cars get their lap back because some point in time those people would return he favor. So now-a-days 1 car gets their lap back when the caution flies as opposed to sometimes 5 cars in the old days.. it equals out.

The only thing I would change about the lucky dog rule would be the closet car to the leader not on the lead lap with a maximum of 10 laps down would get 1 lap back.

There are certainly many more cars that get back on the lead lap due to the Lucky Dog. Many more than before they had the Lucky Dog.

well how do you fix it then? You cant just take away the lucky dog and make every driver race their way back onto the lead lap, esp. with the field being frozen when the caution comes out. You would have cars staying out under the cautions and then spinning out another car intentionally, that would be the only way to get a lap back. I dont see a problem with the lucky dog

Maybe they could limit the number of times a driver gets the lucky dog a race,I know jr gets it alot and this would affect him but hopefully he won't be in that position too much longer where he counts on the lucky dog, thats really the only way I could see improving it.

Maybe if Junior could stay on the lead lap he wouldn't have to worry about getting the Lucky Dog. How many times have you heard Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, Kyle Busch or any of the top drivers getting the Lucky Dog what maybe once every three or four races. With Junior it seems to be at least two or three times a race.

If that doesn't change with his new set up then he needs to just quit!:(
