what people need to be asking themselves is this...had the Nuggets been eliminated in round 1 again, what would your impression of Melo be? most likely he would be looked at as a good player who couldnt carry a team, like he was perceived to be in years past...with that said i'd still take Bosh, since Melo only really received team success when Billups arrived

GREATNESS ONE

I am usually the 1 who will take the big man but I dont consider Bosh a real big(great player) easily Melo here.

melo, but the key thing i'd do is not pair him with ai(which i think stunted his growth alittle)

Ironic how most fans opinion of Melo/Bosh have changed over the last two years. Until Bosh gets his career back on track I'm going with Melo.

Toss up, think Id rather have the big even if he doesnt play all that big and Melo actually plays more of the interior game, so maybe Melo is the big, I dont know, too close to call at this point.

Bosh has been just as good as hes been the past 3 years, nothing has changed. But yes the team success does get people hopping all over the place, its a truly inconsistent barometer for a players level of play.

NANANA! He didn't take them anywhere and couldn't do it before Billups got here. Melo is just a scorer. Not a leader.

And Bosh's team was in the playoffs last year. Does that mean hes less of a player now? How about the year before that? Are you suggesting Bosh is getting worse?

I'll take Bosh. But I'd tell him to stop trying contested jump shots, and instead try to attack the rim and draw some fouls.

But no, he wants to keep showcasing his jumper...

Tough call on this one. Both still have some work to do until we see them at full potential IMO. Melo is a far more dynamic scorer and not bad on the boards. Bosh is a very efficient scorer and good rebounder. Both players need to work on defense, although Melo seems to have shown some improvement in that aspect of his game this year. At this point in time I'd have to say Melo.

Melo is in the conference finals where as Bosh is out of the playoffs. Melo has had more success then Bosh too.

That's exactly the problem with Bosh: nothing has changed. He is weak defensively and hasn't proven to be much of a leader. Not saying Melo is, but that is what has been expected of Bosh and he came up very short last year when it was needed the most. Team success for Bosh isn't the deciding factor for me. On his own merit, Melo is the better, stronger, more dynamic player.

It's the jumper that's driving most Raptor fans insane right now. It's not that he wants to showcase his jumper. It's that he doesn't have the power or the inside game to consistently go to the rim. Now he's even starting to take 3's on a more regular basis. On a jumpshot happy team that's not a good thing to see out of your PF.

When I think of Bosh I think of Boris Diaw (not a dominant post player by any means) going 15-21 against him and absolutely schooling him in the post. If he can't guard an undersized finesse 6'8 PF...then he's got problems with post defense.

torontosports10
05-19-2009, 11:41 AM
Since Melo got Billups its done him wounders. Bosh needs a sidekick to help him. Bargs is real good but is also a PF.

If I had to choose it would be Melo.

Exactly right. In matchups against "lesser" big men, Bosh struggled again and again this year.

look how good the nugget teams have been, camby martin athony as the core, anthony has always had a good supporting cast around him, last year you could say iverson and this year billups as welland JR smith, the nuggets have always had more talent then the raptors. i would say bosh does more with less, look at teh raptors, nobody on their starting 5 except calderon or bosh are legit starters

Melo. He is one of the top 5 scorers in the game. People forget how when he was the only option on the Nuggets, he did average 29 ppg before being suspended. I think Melo also has a higher ceiling, as he is constantly getting better, and playing defense. Bosh is great, and will get a huge payday, but he needs to refine his game to make this a closer vote.

While I find Bosh to be overrated as well, your reasoning baffles me... Should Wade have done more with Oneal in Miami? At least Oneal was mostly healthy for that stretch. Oneal hardly played healthy alongside Bosh during his stretch with the team.

Melo top 15, Bosh top 20? Without putting a lot of time into exact names, I would say that is an estimate for me.

You didnt answer the question. Is Bosh getting worse because he missed the playoffs this year? Even though hes made the playoffs before and before that? Playoffs are not a barometer for how good an individual is, its a barometer for how good a TEAM is. I dont like the idea of people saying Melo is a better player because his TEAM is better.

Why is this debated?... bosh has kind of disappointed, but i dont think Melo has. he has made the playoffs every year he has been in the league, and his team is playing great ball right now. he is a great scorer, though not a great all around player, but that doesn't mean he is bad. he is still a "superstar" even if he isnt one of the best players. he is highly marketable and helped turn the franchise around IMO.

Yea this one is a no brainer, I shouldnt have doubted Melo fans. Never seen Bosh dominate a playoff game like that, I know Melo gets streaky hot sometimes but if he continues to perform anywhere close to this level against the Lakers then there is nothing left to say.
