Everybody knows that there is no competition for the United States in basketball. Still, Spain and Argentina seem like the next level down.

Spain:

C - Marc Gasol
PF - Pau Gasol
SF - Carlos Jiminez
SG - Rudy Fernandez
PG - Ricky Rubio

Argentina:
C - Fabricio Oberto
PF - Luis Scola
SF - Andres Nocioni
SG - Manu Ginobili
PG - Carlos Delfino

With a healthy Manu, I'd take Argentina.

There i no competition for the US? Come on I love the Dream Team and all..but they just won one gold medal after 2000.

Anyway back to the question....The Argentinian team is a little old, I would take Spain, and they have Jose Calderon as the starting PG. Ricky might overtake him, but still Spain is loaded with talent.

spain easily..

easily? why?

oh wait... there's a laker from spain...and a rocket from argentina...maybe that's why you think that...just guessing here...

believe me, it would be a very competitive game...

I think spain might have a slight edge, but the easily part is ridiculous imo.

i'd have to take spain. the gasol brothers are both very good and rudy fernandez could become a legit star. only problem is the yong unproven PG. He could be a great NBA player but as of right now he hasnt proven anything. but overall the lineup ofr Spain is a little better IMO

USA without Kobe can't beat these teams

^Usa can beat spain without Kobe.

Usa can Beat spain 8 of each 10 times and Argentina 9 of each ten.

But well its not like on the REAL Dream team era where Dream team will beat spain by 40+ 8 of each 10 times and 20+ the other two

The US has by far the most talented players. The only reason it ever loses is because of a lack of cohesion. Mostly, that's not the problem of the US team. It's the problem of the US coaches.

If they had to face each other, I'd say Spain. And they seem to have great depth, looking at the post above.

A healthy Ginobili and Scola with 3 random scrubs would be enough to beat that Spainish squad. :D

well spain does got a lot more depth, but are a younger team and less-experience besides pau. argentina has vets in ginobili, delf and nocioni and rising...player  in scola. i think if the game was played today, argentina would win by a bit. in a few years, id have to say spain.

and as of the end of 08, Argentina is rated 1st in the world followed by USA and SPAIN respectively.

marc > oberto
pau > scola
jiminez < nocioni
fernandez < ginobili
rubio/cald > delf.

still think ARG wins

I am Argentinean and I just wish this was asked a few years ago. Right now I would say Spain in a close one but if it was on t.v. right now I would still have faith in my team.

hahaha, yeah lets ignore that Argentina has won in the olymics and had success in the world championships because you like France, nah, I don't think so, I think I will base it on what has really happened in real life

^ hey we are talking in pape here

in real life SPain hs been kikcing argentinas *** recently but they are always close games, on a 7 games series we would probably go to the 7th game and the one with HC advantage would win.

But on paper spain is much stacked so is France

BUt you know that there are less stacke dteams that can also defeat spain or argentina like Lithuania or Russia or Greece or brazil or serbia

with a healthy ginobili, spain (won twice last summer before the olympics)

w/o a healthy ginobili, spain.

about four years ago, argentina was the best team outside USA. right now is spain.
