Wed May 13, 2009 - Game 5 Dallas @ Denver 9:00 pm EDT TNT (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/preview?gid=2009051307)

The Denver Nuggets returned from Dallas with a bad taste in their mouths and it had nothing to do with Chris “Birdman” Andersen’s nasty case of food poisoning.

Andersen said between bites of mashed potatoes Tuesday that he’s recovered from his sour stomach that kept him out of the Nuggets’ 119-117 loss to the Mavericks the previous night.

“I feel really good now,” Andersen said after getting additional IVs and shooting some baskets.

He said he can’t wait for Game 5 Wednesday night at the Pepsi Center when the Nuggets try to clinch their first trip to the Western Conference Finals in 24 years.

His teammates are equally eager to take out their frustrations on the basketball court.

They’re upset with the way their families and friends were treated Monday night at American Airlines Center, where fans hurled insults at Kenyon Martin’s(notes) girlfriend, rap star Trina, and where Carmelo Anthony’s(notes) girlfriend, LaLa Vazquez of MTV fame, was removed from her seat by security guards for her safety.

Time for a blowout! Dallas got the phantom foul call on Dirk at the end of game 4 to make up for game 3. Denver comes out hyped at home, with a non-poisoned Birdman, and dominates.

I'd love to see the Mavs take this one of course, but it's going to be tough in Denver. I think our best hope is the crowd is over pumped and gets the Denver players to play a little to agressive.

i think the mavs have more of a chance than yall are giving them...denver has a chance to unravel in this game...alot of emotions...hopefully mavs play a smart, well structured game...and steal this one in denver...

i think the nuggetts should win this one, however, i see a chance for the mavs to break the nugs home streak.

it's hard to end a team's season. Esp when dirk is on the court

From the NBA's youtube channel:

Dirk Nowitzki goes Head to Head with Carmelo Anthony (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VkdlYl7qbNE)

Dirk and Melo combined for a historic performance:

In Game 4, Dirk Nowitzki and Carmelo Anthony put on the sort of show that doesn't happen very often. Only three times in history, actually. That's how many times two players have scored 40 or more points in the same playoff game.

If you were at American Airlines Center late Monday night, save that mental snapshot. You're not likely to see another one like it.

Mano-a-Melo. It just doesn't get much better. Nowitzki won the individual matchup with 44 points and 13 rebounds. Anthony had 41 points and 11 boards. dallasnews.com (http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/basketball/mavs/stories/051309dnspomavslede.4122089.html)

I imagine it ends tonight. The series seems to have turned into a major mess due to angry Dallas fans and Cuban's childish antics. But that is a nice little post above, Den. Congrats to both of those guys for their games.

Yeah, I just really hope two things about this game:

1) Denver fans take the high road and refrain from doing anything stupid or retaliatory, and just stay focused on cheering FOR the Nuggets, and

2) The Nuggets bring their A game defensively. If they do, I don't see Dallas winning in the Pepsi Center. The Birdman is back, which should probably seal the deal (no more of those way-too-easy uncontested layups from Barea).

NUGGETS FANS, MAVS FANS, NBA FANS, EVERYBODY:

I'd like to get down on my knees and beg you now to check your emotions at the door for this game so we can all just watch it and stay focused on the basketball without getting caught up in all the drama that takes away from the game and distracts from the action on the court. Personally speaking, as a mod, I really want to spend more time watching this game and talking about the game than having to monitor simmering disputes between posters, and give infractions and delete posts and all that crap. Thanks, I appreciate it.

Nah it's gonna have nothing to do with Crawfords gay ***, and yes thats a true stat. Dallas has looked pathetic and it pisses me off that this game means so little to them. Melo and Dirk both continue to impress.

As does Chauncey. Man, he sure knows exactly what his team needs and when. Exactly when to step in for scoring, and exactly when to take a step back and let hotter hands take over. I know AI and Billups can't have their careers judged on 3 playoff performances alone, but watching Billups this postseason and watching Iverson the previous two has further cemented my belief in Chauncey being the all-around superior player.

Honestly, Iverson would fit in better here than he ever did in Denver, but I don't know if he's the answer( no pun intended) Dallas needs a guy who can create his own shot, and Iverson does that. But like I said, we need more than 1 player. With Kidd, Damp, Bass, Howard and possible more gone, we will have some trade pieces and money to spend, let's just hope Dallas isn't stupid and waits until 2010.
