( 1 ) Cleveland Cavaliers (66-16) vs. ( 4 ) Atlanta Hawks (47-35)

Cleveland Cavaliers will have the Homecourt Advantage

Cleveland Leads Series 2-0 Series Breakdown

Sat May 9th - Game 3 Cleveland @ Atlanta 8:00 pm EDT ABC (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/preview?gid=2009050901)

If this was a heavyweight fight, the referee might have already stepped in to stop it.

LeBron James(notes) and the Cleveland Cavaliers are on a record roll and throwing nothing but haymakers. The Atlanta Hawks are all banged up and on the ropes.

Of course, it takes four wins to advance in the NBA playoffs, so the Cavaliers’ work is only half done. But it’s hard to see any way the team with the league’s MVP and best record of anyone during the regular season could possibly let this one slip away, not after those first two games in Cleveland.

The Cavs took Game 1 by 27 points. Game 2 was a 20-point blowout (and not really that close).

Compounding Atlanta’s problems: Three starters—leading scorer Joe Johnson(notes), center Al Horford(notes) and forward Marvin Williams(notes)—are hurting. Horford (sprained ankle) and Williams (sprained wrist) sat out Game 2, while Johnson twisted his right ankle after the contest already had gotten out of hand and left the arena in a walking boot.

Cavs by about 10. Hawks play well on their own floor and will be pumped, but if they're without Johnson, Williams and Horford - well I think you can pencil the Cavs into the East finals.

Joe Johnson, Marvin Williams and Al Horford are all significanlty banged up. As if it weren't going to be a big enough struggle vs. the cavs with them healthy, with them nowhere close to 100%, they've got no chance, compared to the slim chance if they were healthy.

Agreed. It's almost guaranteed that the Lakers and the Cavs will face off in the Finals, and I would say barring injury or LeBron actually becoming the incredible hulk that the Lakers have just too many talented players surrounding Kobe.

Pau is also the most weirdly underappreciated player in the NBA. He's arguably the most efficient player in the NBA (undoubtedly with Kobe's help), and because without him, they're not a Finals team.
But with him, they're almost guaranteed a victory.

The same is true of Kobe, but nobody talks about how important Pau has been to this team. It's all Kobe Kobe Kobe.

exactly people forget how talented pau actually is and what he have done before he came to the lakers. He lead memphis to a couple 50 plus win seasons in back than maybe an even tougher western conference with the spurs, mavs and suns at their best.

ESPN Fast Facts

• The Cavaliers improved to 7-0 in the playoffs, becoming the only team in NBA history to win each of its first seven games to start the playoffs by 10 or more points.

• Cleveland has held its opponents to 78.7 points this season.

• LeBron James scored 25 of his 47 points in the second half. He finished with 47 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists, joining Michael Jordan as the only players in NBA postseason history with 45-10-8 in a playoff game.

• With the 15-point loss, the Hawks joined the 1994 Indiana Pacers as the only teams in NBA history to play at least 10 consecutive games that were decided by 10 or more points in a single postseason.

I give the Hawks credit for hustling almost the entire game. When the Cavs jumped out to the early lead I thought that would be the worst thing for the Hawks. Atlanta didn't want the Cavs to take their fans out of it and they started to do that right away. But the Hawks answered and answered again in the third. Much props for the never-say-die.

Bottom line was LeBron was off-the-charts amazing. One of the top - if not the top - overall playoff performances of this young postseason.

As a Cavs fan I have no problem admitting the Lakers are the team to beat too. They won the two regular-season games and they went to the Finals last year. I don't think you'll see the Cavs strutting their stuff much - and that's iffffff they even get to the finals. As a Cleveland fan you never let yourself think too far ahead, lol.

if there are questionable calls, then at the very least, make a list of actual plays. don't just point to foul counts and say that it's proof of referee bias.

Agreed.

The Hawks take jumpers all game long and LeBron drives to the basket like an unstoppable force and is fouled every time because the crappy Hawks D cant stop him.

End result: Hawks shoot less FTs than him.

Yet people whine about it. Hilarious.

lol

this guy still thinks lebron would let the cavs lose to orlando

u must think we're detroit or atl & never see us blow out cleveland all but one game this year.

i must think you arent even going to get past boston.

you played the cavs 3 times, grats for beating them 2 out of 3 times. enjoy the playoffs, you'll be out soon. the magic's style of play is not suitable for a 7 game playoff series where teams adapt and change their defenses, which is why orlando fought for their lives against philly and is doing so again against a terrible, weakened boston team.
