View Full Version : What is Going on with the Most Improved Player Award??

THE MTL

This is the only award that hasnt been announced and we are already two games into the second round of the playoffs. The MVP (LeBron James) was announced before the MIP? I dont remember the MVP ever coming first. Are the voters really having a hard time deciding this one or something lol.

It is pretty tough competition though:

Devin Harris
Rajan Rondo
Danny Granger
Kevin Durant

I'd go Danny G, but since he was injured I think it will go to Harris

they announced it, it was Rasual Butler. LOL
Seriously tho where is this award?

Devin Harris is really nice but I don't think he should win this award. His stats are pretty much the same as last year with excepting to averaging about 6 more points a game this year.

Greg Oden.....No wait...

I think Mo Williams should get some votes, he is such a better player than he was with milwaukee, but I think Salmons or Granger will win it.

Rondo is carrying the Celtics this year. He has 3 triple doubles in the playoffs. 1 more and he ties the record held by Magic Johnson. Id say thats an improvement worth noting.

Yea, but he was pretty good last year too. The other candidates have really elevated their games. Plus it's easy to get assists with Pierce, Garnett, and Allen on your team.

No way Rondo gets it over the other candidates

wow i didn't even notice until now. They gave out MVP. Don't they usually give the other awards before giving the MVP out.

Maybe they forgot

Yeah, it would take a season like Darko to a season like Jordan for a smaller market team to win it.

Definitly not durrant. Shouldnt be a 2nd year player, there expected to improve.

Nene has been playing great, I agree. What is most surprising is that he had cancer last year, and now he's doing so well.

For me, it's either Harris, Granger, Rondo and I would say Nene, but I just know that he won't get it.

Rondo's tons better than I thought he was, and he -is- carrying the Celtics in the playoffs. But playoffs don't count for these awards, they're for the regular season. Other players improved more over the 82 games.

dee279
05-07-2009, 09:17 PM
Granger i would say but since it looks like all the awards goes to good teams, Rondo might win the award. Harris has a good chance. I dont see Durant getting it though cuz his improvement was well expected.

I think Mo Williams should get some votes, he is such a better player than he was with milwaukee, but I think Salmons or Granger will win it.

Mo actually played a little better in Milwaukee dude. It's just now he is getting some attention because he plays with Lebron.

But yeah, Danny Granger better get this award.

THE MTL
05-07-2009, 09:29 PM
Rondo is a beast, but I believe Kevin Durant or Devin Harris should take the award. They TRULY catapulted themselves into ALL-STAR status! Danny Granger deserves it too, but I dont think he qualifies cause he only played 66 games. Isnt 70 games the cut off or something?

wadecounty305

devin harris must get it

If I remember correctly didn't Turkoglu win it last year?

Rondo was good last year. If they considered what he's doing in the playoffs this year he'd be a lock, but they only look at the regular season.

Aside from the obvious candidates that have been mentioned already, how about JR Smith or Tyrus Thomas?

Ovratd1up
05-08-2009, 01:52 AM
Tyrus didn't have numbers impressive enough to win it, but I think he might be set up for a Milsap-like rise next year. J.R. Smith didn't improve as much as the others did.

Granger is not going to win it, he declined a little bit (missed games) towards the end of the season, and Harris, the winner, is more impressive.

And have people forgotten about Salmons? They stopped talking about his improvement after one week this season. What's more impressive...

Kevin Durant- 20 ppg to 25 ppg
Danny Granger- 20 ppg to 26 ppg
John Salmons- 12 ppg to 20 ppg

Which one sticks out?

How about Nene's 5 ppg, 5 rbs, to 15 ppg and 8 rbs?

Anyway, Harris' 21 and 7 will sadly take it home.

But my vote goes to Shaq and Allen Iverson

GoatMilk

Granger has to get it
he went from solid player, to an All-star and top 5 in scoring.

look i love Devin Harris, but if you look at his stats from the day he got to NJ last season and this season's stats, they are almost identical. the only thing that went up is points

Granger on the other hand is up in everything. and their records are the same or close to it.

Danger Granger for me

Salmons has always been this good but no one gave him a chance to start until he got to the Kings... thats why he doesn't deserve most "improved".

Milsap deserves consideration, but probably won't win it.

People where saying before the season he could be one of the biggest busts ever!
I know he has NO CHANCE but some votes maybe??

Danny Granger:
Year G GS MIN OFF DEF RPG APG SPG BPG PPG
07-08 80 80 36.0 1.2 4.9 6.1 2.1 1.2 1.0 19.6
08-09 67 66 36.2 0.7 4.4 5.1 2.7 1.0 1.5 25.8

Up in Everything, huh?

Devin Harris:
07-08 25 22 33.5 0.4 2.8 3.3 6.5 1.4 0.3 15.4
08-09 69 69 36.1 0.4 2.9 3.3 6.9 1.6 0.2 21.3 <--- Almost Identical?

Oh, and the only thing that went up was points. Not like Granger's numbers went up in so many more things.

Sorry Granger fans, but Danny was already more established than Harris a year ago, and Devin is taking this trophy home. I usually don't guarantee things, but I guarantee this.

I made a post about this earlier this week in the Pacers forum since DG is in competition for it. Something crazy must be going on but regardless....its really up in the air this year...can't really go wrong with the winner. If you look at nba.com/awards they have 4 candidates listed and Danny Granger isn't even one of them. Trying to figure out if that means anything or not.

Rondo should not be considered because of his playoff performances(his regular season improvement isn't enough)...for the same reason that Dirk Nowitzki was the MVP the year the Mavs lost to the Warriors in the playoffs and people wanted to change their votes. Regular season awards.

I'm a bit biased but it seems to me that the harder jump to take is from a 20 point scorer to a 25-28 point scorer as opposed to a 12-13 point scorer to 18-20. You can get 20 being talented on a bad team...25-28 points is usually the mark of a more special player.

LOL this has become a message board where fans come to support the players on their team. Just by looking at people's usernames you can tell what they will write and who they will support.

You had to figure out my bias by looking at my username? How about looking at my post where I clearly state it. He shouldn't win it because I like him, he should win it because he made the most significant jump. With that said it seems like Harris is going to win it, but is probably less deserving.

Nene needs a lot more support for this by the way.

FINALLY they gave sources to the winner of this award! Eventhough its not official...it looks like Danny Granger is taking it.

The Cavs are already in the Eastern Conference Finals lol. And Denver was 3 points away from the Western Conference Finals. Such a late award.
