LA Lakers will have the Homecourt Advantage

Houston Leads Series 1-0 Series Breakdown

Wednesday May 6th - Game 2 Houston @ LA Lakers 10:30 pm EDT TNT (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/preview?gid=2009050613)

LOS ANGELES (AP)—The Lakers were abject failures in their Western Conference semifinal opener against the Houston Rockets. It was hard to tell, though, by Kobe Bryant’s downright cheerful attitude Tuesday.

“We played really bad,” he said of the 100-92 loss in which the Lakers shot 44 percent from the floor, were 2-of-18 from 3-point range, and 12-of-19 from the line.

Sensing panic in the streets among Laker fans, Bryant offered up some calming words.

“It’s not like it’s the end of the world,” he said. “We’re not the first team ever to lose a Game 1 at home, it’s just here in Los Angeles, people get pretty nervous.”

Bryant isn’t among them.

“Last year we kind of had a cakewalk to the NBA finals, it feels good to be tested a little bit,” he said. “To be champions, you got to go through some stuff. You got to have the resolve to be able to fight through a little adversity and respond, so here it is.”

i doubt it. I expect the Rockets to lose game two because PJ is too good of a coach to let Adleman out coach him again...cause you have to admit, Adleman was more prepared than PJ in game 1. but I HOPE Houston manages to win all their games at home and beat LA in 6.

may the best team win :)

honestly, I think the Lakers will want to bring it this time around. The Rockets need to keep the composure, adjust to what the Lakers have changed and keep scoring.

It will be hard for the Rockets to take game 2, but it's not impossible.

I would love to see the Rockets take this series. We've been counted out so many times.
but the Lakers aren't 1st seed by mistake..these two great teams are going to make an awesome series to watch!

i can't see L.A. losing game 2.
Kobe and the gang will not shoot that bad again.
you guys could say it was Houston's D in Game 1 which it was for the most part, but the Lakers missed shots that they normally make

c'mon, 2-15 was it for 3?

Lakers will win. It will probably be close, but it'll go to Houston tied 1-1, where they will split again

If the open perimeter shot falls for the Lakers, it'll make the offesne easier to initiate...the athleticism of Odom will be a key because the Rockets have good post defenders, but if Odom faces them up he'll leave the Rockets bigs in the dust.

The Rockets simply must enforce the same plan as in game 1...deny LA good perimeter looks and control the glass.

I'd be surprised to see the Rockets take game 2. The Lakers are too deep and have too good of coaching to leave the left coast down 0-2.

I do notice that there arent any overzealous fans chiming in with the "Lakers by 20" posts.

Maybe the Rockets are finally getting a little bit of respect.

How is it a must win for the Rockets? If anything its a must win for the Lakers. Rockets did what they had to do, steal home court. Stealing two is great, but this is more of a Lakers must win.

This will be a tuff game for houston.. I expect L.A. to come out with a ton of energy! If houston don't turn the ball over, hit open shots/free throws, and play with passion with good defense.. there's a chance thay can steal a win.. even though the chance's are slim... I kno one thing though.. if houston do win by any chance.. I think we take the series

It's not a must win at all for the Rockets. They've already at worst managed a split in LA, and taken homecourt away. Now, they have to come out and give the same effort and play hard and not just be satisfied with a split, but it's by no means a must win. Not in the sense "must win" is conoted anyway. I mean every game is really a "must win" as you can never really afford to lose games, but it's not one of those must win games for the Rockets.

Sorry but I disagree. It's just as much of a "must win situation" for the Rockets, as it is for the Lakers. One game up in the playoffs, on a team like the Lakers means nothing (home court or not.) One reason it's a must win for the Rockets is because the Lakers are just flat out a better team, and we all know they can win in Houston. They swept us there in the regular season. If the lakers win, they'll have more confidence going over to Houston and they'll actually have the momentum going in, even though they are playing away. If the Lakers lose game 2, then in my mind, they are the only team that could come back to win the whole series in a situation like this.

I get what you're saying, and I agree.

I guess I'm just saying that in the sense the term "must win game" is used, it just doesn't apply here. Managing a split in LA is a win for the Rockets, and they'd have to feel good about that. They shouldn't feel good about it already and not show up like Orlando did tonight, but if they lose, as long as they play hard and don't get beat bad, I think they can feel good about going back to houston 1-1.

Bynum isn't healthy, he doesn't have any lift or explosion. He simply can't be effective.

Some people would say, he's a confidence player, and needs minutes to get back into his rhythm. I call bull ****. He's completely ineffective when he plays, and has no aggression. He can't produce in the time he's given, he needs to get his head right, and play his role, play defense, and rebound. Which he isn't doing, so he's not playing.

Come on. That's not taunting. It's more like a "woohoo" expression/celebration after a game winner. If anything else, maybe a little intimidation.

That's not disrespecting Battier in any sort of ways.

Yeah, there are times when a hard "send a message" foul can be worth the cost and a smart play (I think K-Mart's hard foul on Dirk in game 1 would fall into that category... Dirk shot 6-6 until that play, then 6-16 after that), but that play by Fisher was pretty pointless. Nothing more than a revenge play that didn't accomplish anything, and more than likely does more harm than good for his team's chances.

1st of all odom and walton and sasha were running their mouths, not just scola. and 2nd of all, there's a difference between sending a message and being tough, and taking a cheap, blatant elbow to someone when they aren't prepared such as fisher did. the only thing dirtier someone can do on the court that was dirtier than what fisher did would be to straight up punch somebody or go after them when they are on the floor
