Boston Celtics will have the Homecourt Advantage

Orlando Leads Series 1-0 Series Breakdown

Wednesday - May 6th - Game 2 Orlando @ Boston 8:00 pm EDT TNT (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/preview?gid=2009050602)

WALTHAM, Mass. (AP)—The defending champion Boston Celtics lost the opener of their Eastern Conference semifinal series against Orlando, then they turned on the television and watched Los Angeles, their opponent in last year’s NBA finals, lose Game 1 of its second-round series in the West.

Paul Pierce doesn’t understand why anyone is surprised.

“The teams that are left are the top four teams in their conferences. Every series is going to be competitive,” he said Tuesday, a day after the Celtics erased most—but not enough—of a 28-point deficit and lost 95-90 to the Orlando Magic. “Whatever you did in the regular season, it’s a whole new ballgame.”

The Celtics needed no reminder after their first-round series against the seventh-seeded Bulls, in which a record four games went into an unprecedented total of seven overtimes. Boston also lost Game 1 of that series to cough up home court advantage but took Game 3 in Chicago to win it back.

How you snub the great JJ Redick and still put his injured backup Courtney Lee is a travesty.

Anyway, JJ Redick will be studly once again, and he'll lead the Magic to a win.

If the Magic get careless like they did in the last game, Boston will get it. Can't let up the intensity just because of a huge lead.

Let's hope Doc plays Marbury a little more than the 8 minutes last game. I'd say 8 points, 3 assists and no turnovers in that time span deserves more PT this game (and should have gotten more last game).

tonight is a must win.

Rondo has to get his act together and finish at the rim. no more stupid floaters that work 30% of the time. FINISH.

keep up the defense and the Celtics should take this game easy. The Celtics will shoot better this game for sure bc they couldnt shoot worse last game.

like Scal said, u cant let the game come to u, u gotta go and take it in the playoffs.

LETS GO CELTICS!!!!

I hate the way the Magic are playing offense right now.

3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3 ... and missing most of them.

Where's the intensity? Where's the aggression? Of course perimeter shooting is a big part of their game, but they really need to force the issue offensively a lot more to get those shots in a more timely fashion, with better more open looks. They're totally setting right now.

superkegger
05-06-2009, 08:45 PM
The problem is, they don't use dwight to set up their 3's. If they played more inside out, it would be fine, but they play outside in. Using 3 point shooters to open up dwights game, which makes some sense, since he isn't exactly a stellar offensive post player, but you still gotta play inside out.

That is unless they're giving JJ the ball, then it really doesn't matter, cause he'll make everything.

Maybe, but even if the Celtics win tonight, the Magic managed a split in Boston, which is pretty much what your goal is as the road team. So really they can't feel too bad about it, even if they lose tonight.

Yeah but so did the Bulls and I know everyone is going to say the Magic are way better than the Bulls but, the Bulls can actually get easier baskets than the Magic. They drive to the hoop and get a lot of fastbreak points and the Magic are basically a jumpshooting team. Teams like Orlando usually don't go too far in the playoffs.

Wow! Reggie Miller and the other idiot couldn't figure out why Rondo let the ball roll up the court on the 2nd to last position. He clearly did it so Boston could get a two for one possesion. He did it to get two possesions with 30 seconds left. It almost paid off too because he barely missed the 3 and Perkins was a second late on the putback. It was actually good strategy.

Until it gets stolen. It's fine to do it, but when you let it roll all the way past half court, you're asking for it to get picked, like almost happened last game. It's just dumb, and its going to bite him in the *** at some point.

Doc pulled Big Baby out early and subbed him with Scalabrine and it paid off. I said before game 1 that he should have started Scal because he can cover Lewis better and it would give the C's a true back up center to come in if Perk gets in trouble. I hate to sound cocky but I could be a very good head coach. I would have started Scal in game 1 and been up 2-0 later on tonight though.

Yeah but the guy didn't even attempt to go after it tonight. Rondo will usually pick it up as soon as someone makes a move to the ball. The other night was the only time I seen a guy come close to stealing the ball and I've seen Rondo do it over 100 times. Tonight he let it roll past half court to keep the clock stopped in order to get a 2 for 1. The defender should make a move towards the ball so he has to pick it up. Dude just stood there and let him get the ball all the way past half court.

I'm pretty disappointed with the Magic's ball movement in this game. On a lot of possessions, it actually reminds me a lot of last year's Nuggets - a single pass, then a shot, but not the extra pass (or two) to get the better look. It's kind of the lazy path of least resistance that results in lower percentage shots.

So what. If they get within 15 put him back in. He's just running up the score with Ray Allen draining3's. That's only going to tick Orlando off and get them pumped up for game 3. No need to rub it in their face.

id prefer we run them out of the gym, and not let up at all

Skip has to be suspended, enough is enough, you can't just go around smacking the **** out of people. How did the refs miss that?

Yeah he will definitely be suspended. You can't swing at anyone even if he does punch like an 80 year old woman.

just checking in...got a few things to say....

first, Alston is a complete idiot, and should/will be suspended. I mean, the shot was done with for a couple seconds and then he purposely slapped him across the head AS he was walking away.

Also, what happened to dwight dominating perk? looks like perk is holding his own against d12, if not having the better game.

Then lets get to rondo, after game 1 alot of people were like " oh this is the real rondo"
Now what? lol Not to mention his sick dunk right by dwight.

Best part of tonight, pierce has played 10 mins, and got some GREAT rest.

That's just bulletin board material for game 3. If you show a team up they are going to come out and give it 110% the next time you meet. I don't agree with you at all on that.

I expect Rondo to have a field day in Game 3 as well if Rafer is suspended (as he should be), Rondo will dominate Johnson.

Agreed. when he gets suspended, johnson is in BIG trouble, therefor, hopefully dwight/lewis will get into foul trouble with rondo's constant penetration

Dwight, along with a few other young stars have been slightly overated.
Right now, Perkins is basically shutting him down. Dwight does not have that many ways to score. He doesn't have much of a post game from what Ive seen.

I wouldn't know, I've not seen much of these two games. But Dwight is so strong that he must be able to get some position down low, then it's just up to his team to get him the ball. He doesn't have the best post moves, but he has improved since entering the league...

his only points so far are from overpowering once in a while. he does get good position sometimes, but for the most part he is 10 ft from the hoop and doesnt have much of a chance of scoring.

im feeling great about this series. the magic lack heart big time. they fall down and dont try getting up. i like it that way.

It's pathetic for a so called superstar like Howard to NOT dominate against a depleted Boston front line. I love the guy, but the media continues to claim he is better than he really is.

He is an athletic freak, but as a basketball player he is still far from a complete player. When you are branded a superstar there is no excuses.

Like I said, I love Howard but I'm starting to believe he is the most overrated player in the league.

exactly. You put a big kid like perkins on him, it takes away alot of his offensive athletic boards. Offensivley, he doesnt have many skill sets. Perkins has played JUST as well as d12 in this series.

People look at the big numbers Howard puts up and fail to realize how he gets those numbers. Because he is bigger and elevates higher than everyone else...Howard gets alot of gimme buckets...easy dunks off passes or rebounds.

But when it comes to creating his own offense against good straight up defense like Perkins plays, Howard still looks like a clueless rookie. He doesn't have a clear go-to move and he lacks to the know how to really exploit his matchups.

There is a reason why the Magic play outside in instead of inside out, because unlike a Duncan, a Yao or a Gasol Howard isn't an adept passer and is easy to confuse by intelligent defensive teams.

Howard only dominates for stretches because he is a superior athlete to most...but as far as learning the game, he still has alot to be desired. He gets by with pure athletic ability, not fundamentals. He is really young still, but so far his learning curve has been sorta slow.

Unlike other high school phenoms like Kobe, LeBron, Amare or KG...Howard doesn't seem to have a natural feel for the game as those guys. His developement is a vast learning process for him.
