This will surely be a completely different game from game 1. Of course, the fact it's a different game goes without saying but the whole dynamic will be different. Dallas will definitely be making some major adjustments. Denver will probably be looking to get Chauncey and Melo more involved earlier in the game. I think Dallas is in a strange situation where in one sense they'd benefit from slowing down and just paying more of a mind to better ball control, but on the other hand might benefit in the points department the most by pushing the pace and trying to get 3s in transition. So I expect they'll throw a bunch of different offensive looks at Denver especially trying to get Terry more involved. Denver won't pull away down the final stretch like in the last game. It'll be closer. But I think the Nuggets still have attrition on their side with their athleticism and physicality, and ultimately finish this game off having the edge at the end.

Yeah, I think that's a safe bet. I agree with Karl on this one, that Dallas will probably play at their highest level in this game unless there's a game 7, and so Denver will have to play better than they did in game 1. I think both sides are expecting a full blown battle to the hilt. Should be a good game. :smoking:

Thinking the same thing. I think JR and Melo come big tonight, with solid contributions offensively also from Billups & Kleiza.

I think GK continues to keep his best hidden secret on the bench for a potential Lakers/Rockets matchup. His secret is Renaldo Balkman.

It's gonna be a good battle tonight :box:

I want Dallas to steal this game obviously, but deep down I feel Denver is playing great basketball right now. Dallas is playing really great basketball too, but I honestly think Denver's best is better at this point with the talent they have.

Birdman, cannot say enough about what he has contributed to this Nuggets team. I think he's the biggest addition after Chauncey Billups for sure.

Although, I still want the Mavericks to win I won't hold any bad blood losing to this Nuggets team.

If they beat my Mavs I want them to take it all.

Yeah, I hope it's only this game and that he's able to play the rest of them out. Mainly for his health, but also because I want Denver to play a full strength Dallas. I've already seen a lot of talk about how the Nugs getting out of the first round doesn't mean much because the Hornets were hobbled by injury, and I really feel strongly that a full strength Denver is better than a full strength Dallas and would like to see the series play out as such.

they were talking about how dirk gave credit to the denver defenders for the job they did on him. And saying how great scorers and great player never do that. That it was just something they've never heard from a great scorer, giving credit for a defender stopping him. But they've been talking about it since the half of the cavs game, between the two games, and now at this halftime. Just a bit ridiculous

wow, Melo should lay off the 3 a bit. 1-8.

I hate to see him taking so many in a single game, especially when the opposing defense is pretty much letting them waltz into the paint. He really should be playing closer to the rim and driving more, being more aggressive.

But that said, he's .371 on the season, and for him to take about 3 in a game is a good strategy in terms of making the D respect his range.

DenButsu
05-06-2009, 01:43 AM

I was actually worried about Kidd going into this game because there was a stretch in the 3rd quarter of game 1 where he hit two 3s in a row, and I thought that would be an angle that the Mavs would seek to exploit a little bit more in this game. And in fact, I think they did try that (he made five 3 attempts to his three attempts in game 1), but his shot wasn't falling.

So I don't know if 2-3 or 1-5 is the real Kidd. But if he had been hitting those tonight, it definitely would have put a big change on the momentum in tonight's game.

DenButsu

One question for you, Chronz, if you're putting Dirk at top PF in the league... What have you thought of his defense in these two games? I can't count the number of times when he's just cleared out of the way when dudes are driving in for layups and dunks. And I'm not only talking Nene, I'm talking J.R., whose shot he should definitely be contesting. I'm willing to meet you halfway and say his offensive game was flat out outstanding tonight, but I think his D is pretty weak.

Sorry, make that 2 questions... Do you still think this series is going 7?

My guess is that Dirk is sissying out and clearing out so he won't pick up fouls. If he goes out with fouls, then Dallas has no offensive options what with Howard injured and Terry sucking balls. Unless you think that JJB will carry the Mavs to glory. He does need to at least contest the shot better, but he has never been known for his defense. He is one of those players that excels on one end but cannot get it done on the other.
Damp sucks.
